    Those guramis make bubble nests. So maybe you wanna see if they can get a corner with no flow at the surface and some floating plants. Duckweed works well.

      of course they do!! How did I forget. I've actually seen it with a pair a few years back I had!. Makes sense why they are setting up base camp the opposite side of the tank from the flow 👍

      @@MDFishTanksI've definitely learned some of the best bits of useful information about this hobby over the last few years from reading your subscribers comments ! Of the things that are not necessarily applicable in what I have which currently it's just good to have the 7 tanks and a growing collection of low tech glass bowls and several random fishless displays that I have for plants , RCS & snails that I have enjoyed watching how simple setups done the MD way take care of themselves with top offs and the occasional root tabs and wiping the glass now and then. The Harlequins I have are going on 4 years and of the 12 I have 10 and ironically the 2 that ☠️☠️ managed to get stuck in between the intake sponge and the back of the glass . So now I found a L shaped connection for my intake tube so the sponge is not vertical 🤔 Can't wait to see the way you do the African rock layout especially having the caves at different levels. Made me think how some of the different creators are able to incorporate plastic pots and cork bark , driftwood and strategically placed lava rocks before they use expanding pond foam , or some do cement on styrofoam sheets ,then brush on thin coatings etc that can be colored with some powder mixed in , which is then sealed up with Dry Loc . Now that I think it would be a huge blessing for you to get a phone call to or from Aqua Decor and see what happens 🍻

  • @sandorkovacs6974

    I think both of your dwarf gouramis are male. There is plenty of color variation, but the wild-ish males have red and blue stripes, while females have a silvery blue color all over. But the most noticeable difference that doesn't change with the color is the dorsal (top) fin. Males's fins are long and pointy, while females fins are short and round, usually not even close to the base of the tailfin, while males' reach is longer than the tailfin base. That's a very common difference in labyrinthfish species (gouramis, bettas, paradisefish, etc.).

    The male dwarf gourami will build a nest at the surface by spitting out bubbles and combining them with bits of leaves. Adding some floating plants will create a space in which he can do that.
    If all goes well the female will lay her eggs there and the male will look after them and protect the wrigglers. Good luck!

    • @The_Crucible714
      @The_Crucible714 2 місяці тому +1

      Both Gouramis and Bettas are in the Anabantoidei family of “bubble nest builders.” If you’ve successfully bred Bettas then Gouramis should present no problem.

    I love your videos! The best part is that you don’t know the names of all the fish, or how to pronounce the plant names sometimes. It makes your content more relatable than many others. I love how down to earth you are! I look forward to watching all of your videos and you inspire me to rescape my tanks when they are no longer bringing me joy, or no longer properly serving the fish in them. I love your style!

    Hello Md,
    beautiful tanks. But the left tank isnt a good home for the gouramis. Too much waterflow and not enough plants at the top. You should reduce the waterflow a lot.
    Otherwise they won‘t live long.

  • @Krishnath.Dragon

    Do be aware that the Rosy Barbs grow up to six inches long. As for the Pearl Gouramis, you can determine their gender by looking at their dorsal fin, females have a more rounded dorsal fin. It's the same for all Trichopodus species.

      I wonder why Rice fish aren’t allowed outdoors in the UK(?) It’s not like they’re “walking catfish” or mudskippers that can just take off on land for the nearest body of water to invade. Honestly, even if they did they’re so tiny they’d probably wind up as food for a native species. 🤔

    All of your gouramis are both male. Both same colouration and fin shape, just a matter of dominance between them hence the slight difference. It can be quite hard to find females honestly [practically non-existent here]. Oh and btw, your rasboras are espeis, not harlequins

  • @callumhopkinson6071

    With the fin at the back the male pearls have a more extendings hence why it looks like it’s been in a fight also males have vibrant orange chin whereas with the females the fin at the back is more smooth and rounded with less orange in the chin area. I love the vids and have been influenced to start a wild forms angel planted tanks. got multiple red manacapuru pairs and starting on the f1 altums now. Then will start on the Rio nannay.

    We recently came back from holiday to find that our house sitter killed our tank which was rough, we have since dismantled and started begging the process of rebuiilding and found that we were just constatnly referencing information we learnt from yourself so much so we thought it would be really useful if you made a "how to" book on fishkeeping and aquascaping.

    Rosy Barbs can be temperamental if the numbers get too low. I started with a group of 5 or 6, and once I lost 1 after a while it all went downhill. They're like African cichlids where if there are enough in number they cant be singly picked on as easy. I only have two left and somehow they tolerate each other. They dont bother my other fish like Angels with their long fins, which is surprising.

      I’d personally like to see more marine aquariums, especially invertebrates with perhaps only 1 or 2 “feature fish” in each tank. Tbh when I began keeping salt-water the hobby was in its infancy. Protein skimmers, UV sterilization units and tons of other “high-tech” was unknown. Talking with other hobbyists and taking certain precautions helped insure our tanks never crashed or presented major problems. I was also involved in a 2 year work-study program during high school at the NY Aquarium (which didn’t hurt either!) That’s when I thought I was destined to become a marine biologist. What’s that saying about “the best laid plans” *>sigh

    • @deannakeen225
      @deannakeen225 2 місяці тому

      @bbaudo80955 depends what you are wanting the snails to do :) ramshorns (shown in the video) and bladder/pond snails can get out of hand real easy, but are great for helping balance algae, if you have sand for substrate Id say some kind of trumpet or rabbit snail would be a good addition cause they burrow so can help keep the sand or substrate moving, apply snails be very weary where you purchase as only a few species are safe for your plants, I have some pomacea bridgesii and they are great, canalulata however are one of the worst for planted tanks, apple snails are also easy to keep in check as they lay their eggs above water so as long as you find them you can choose to hatch or not. I personally try to establish a balance of all snails in my tanks cause I really like em. hope this helps

      @@Poeticfloetic who cares, it’s just a comment if it was an essay or a novel then sure I’d proof read it before I submit it, it’s just a comment not an exam.

    03:05 those are not harlequin rasboras, but hengel rasboras. Harlequins are not as golden as hengels. I have the same pairing in my tank. A school of 20 of the hengels and a pair of honey gourami

    It’s so difficult to get female dwarf gouramis. I can only find males in my city. It’s annoying.

    I like the guramys! But they are not scatterers, but bubble nest builders.
