Dr Sam Ellis, thanks for normalizing skincare as basic necessity and routine for life and also sharing your knowledge on UA-cam. Has been very educational years with all the insights from dermatologists and skincare influencers who do their due diligence. You guys are changing the landscape of skincare!
Once Covid hit, and we had to use N95's for 12 hour shifts at the hospital, my cheek areas broke out so badly. It was so discouraging because it felt like nothing was helping. Finally I heard about combining Adapalene 0.1% with Benzoyl Peroxide. I use a 2.5% BP, and oh my goodness! My skin responded so well to that treatment. It is now my Holy Grail for acne treatment!🙌
I'm from Germany where it took more than 6 months to get an appointment with a derm. Now I live in Australia where I first have to see a GP ($35) to get a referral for a derm ($250 for a skin check) that is almost two hours away (yup, that's the closest one, and I don't even live that remotely). Access to derms is so hard, thanks for pointing that out.
Thank you for this video and congrats on 100k! 💗 The Hada Labo cleansing oil is my holy grail oil cleanser 💗 I also really enjoyed how simple this routine was. I personally know that it's so easy to panic and go overboard with acne-fighting products when I'm breaking out. It really takes a lot of restraint to put faith in one or two good products. Adapalene and Paula's Choice 2.5% BPO has done wonders for me. I love PC's 2% BHA too, but I don't find it as effective as BPO when the breakouts get intense.
Can you do a video on acne scars! Not only atrophic but also hypertrophic acne scars which are so under looked. Please discuss silicone gel & sheets as well & what you can & can’t use under them. & if tretinion make hypertrophic acne scars worse! Thank u!
I started getting chin acne around my late 30s early 40s. I'm 44 now and finally figured it out. For me the chin acne (and othe sympyomes like extream irritability, sleep disturbance, etc) was being caused by permenopause and/or hormone imbalance. I went to a hormone specialist doc and got a compounded hormone cream (aka bioidentical hormones mixed by the pharmacist in the amounts prescribed by my doctor. I apply it to my arm or leg nightly). OMG, I had not realized how much better life could be! Added benefit, no more chin acne :)
Thank you SO much. I think we must have a similar skin type because everything you've recommended that I've tried has worked for me so far. Paula's Choice BHA toner really works for me. I wake up the morning after using it with such a nice glow. My pores even look smaller.
Thanks for sharing your routine. I've been using Apostrophe since the beginning of 2022 and they've been great. My virtual derm has been very receptive to my feedback and struggles and has helped me find solutions that have turned my skin around.
That hada labo cleansing oil is my holy grail. I still use it. I only buy the refill bag from Amazon and not the whole bottle so i can just refill the bottle i have. I tried to try something new before and nope i gave it away and started using that cleasing oil again haha.
I have really struggled with hormonal acne after my two babies/IUD and have been seen by a dermatologist, but haven’t had any positive results. It has been especially tricky to find something strong enough to help and not affect breastfeeding. Thank you so much for sharing these skin care ingredients and I will give them a try!
Hey Dr. Sam Ellis, I love your videos so much. You have truly changed my skin care routine and my skin in every way. I absolutely love your recommendations, especially when you make videos specifically on Retnoids. Can you please talk more about using a retnoid on the neck. I use adapalene on my neck and after a few months I plan to switch over to tretnoin. Can I use retnoids on the neck, if yes, can I use it every night? Plus I don’t experience any irritation on the neck like most people do, so does that mean that I can use adapalene every night once I start using it every night. I wish I could sit with you and ask you a billion questions, but for now these are my only concerns. Love you and keep making great content!❤️
Hello! I've been using tret on my neck for a few months now, and I'm so glad I did! At first, I applied it only once a week over a thick moisturizer. I slowly worked my way up to twice a week, three times, and now I can use it every night directly on cleansed skin. If you can tolerate it, definitely do it! I've always put all my skincare on my neck, since both the face and neck should match 💖
As an advisor for naturium, can you comment on whether the barrier balm is noncomedogenic? On the website it was not “checked” for acne prone skin, so I’m unsure as to whether it could cause me to break out if I use it on my skin. I also have a question about layering. Two nights a week I use a cerave benzoyl peroxide wash and want to know what actives are generally okay to use along with it. I only use moisturizer on those nights as of now. Thank you for your content! I’m an avid follower!
Hi, I was wondering if you have a morning routine for acne as well?? I’m using cetephil products that are not working for my acne on my chin, so I was going to try the drug store benzoyl face wash you recommended in another video along with the really gentle cleanser to use with the defferin gel and le roche moisturizer. Do you have a routine for those products possibly?
I think I heard from another dermatologist (Dr. Shereene Idriss, if I'm not wrong) that tretinoin can cause development issues on the fetus, so when you're breastfeeding there isn't that concern because the baby is already born. But it's still a personal choice, and the mother should do whatever they feel is better for them.
I have been using the Paulas choice salicylic acid toner every other night should I stop using while using my formula from Apostrophe? I have the same ingredients as yours in it. Also since I am also only using the Apostrophe treatment every other night should I use the Salicylic toner on those nights that I don’t use the treatment? Thank you so much for your time and help!
Hi Dr. I just want ask if tretinoin is really safe while breastfeeding? I’m scared to tried it because everyone says no but I would like a professional opinion.
Dr. Ellis I am so enjoying your videos. Of course I have a question. Menopausal skin care. Any suggestions. The hot flashes, are the devil. Nothing seems to stay on my skin. Currently using dermatica subscription with tretinoin and azalaic to combat mild acne and hyperpigmentation. Mild cerave forming wash and end with cerave moisturizer. Half hour applied I sweated all products away.
may i know where the headband from this video is from? i’ve been looking for one and can’t find one i like if any of you guys have any other suggestions, please do tell ☺️ and here are the timestamps for the products being used: 01:58 - rohto hadalabo gokujun cleansing oil 03:46 - is clinical cleansing complex 05:06 - neocutis lumiere illuminating & firming eye cream 09:45 - naturium marshmallow root barrier balm
Can you use tret while breastfeeding? I always thought it is not safe to. I wanted to start tret straight after giving birth but i was told not to as i was nursing and to start once i complete nursing 😬
I already said this in another comment but: I think I heard from another dermatologist (Dr. Shereene Idriss, if I'm not wrong) that tretinoin can cause development issues on the fetus, so when you're breastfeeding there isn't that concern because the baby is already born. But it's still a personal choice, and the mother should do whatever they feel is better for them.
Hi dr i tried two different oil cleansers but they always trigger my acne, rubbing cotton pad with Micellar water also irritates my face, what i can do to double cleanse my sunscreen off and sometimes makeup
Can you please go over melasma? I’ve been on orthotrycycleen for 10 years and believe it has gave me melasma. Would love help with this and wondering if I get off if it will go away?
I've been eyeing the Marshmallow Balm for a little while now but I've been holding off due to the lactic and glycolic acids (I use tretinoin so I can't use exfoliants too often). I assume they're just in such low concentrations that they aren't cause for concern?
I’m also 19, can I use tretnoin after I finish up with my first adapalene tube or should I continue to use adapalene for a few more months and then switch over, what do you recommend?
If you feel like you can get better results with tretinion then you can get a prescription but if you feel like adaplene is giving you the results you want you can continue with adaplene
Dr Ellis help. I splurged on Winlevi recommended by my derm but it made my jawline cystic acne oily and worse. I stopped using it. This apostrophe cream seems great but my derm explained winlevi as "topical spironolactone" so it scares me to use anything like that even though oral spiro worked wonders for me. what's your thought on winlevi?
I’ve been struggling with hormonal acne as well. But having rosacea it’s hard because most things sting and burn so I def needed this video since I know you also struggle with rosacea! It’s so hard to balance what will help acne and what won’t irritate my rosacea. Is there anything over the counter that you would recommend to try? I looked at apostrophe and I don’t like how I have to pay for the consultation then see how much the treatments would cost…. As someone who can’t afford a lot right now I don’t like signing up for something then finding out after how much I might spend….
Have you looked into azelaic acid? That's a good ingredient for redness of all kinds. I'm sure Dr Ellis has done a video on this, but I also encourage you to find Dr Sam Bunting. She's a dermatologist based in London and has loads of videos on here, too. Check her out!
@@kendallstark4302 I actually have tried prescription azelaic acid. For some reason it makes my rosacea stinging and burning worse and then it didn’t help my acne at all. I thought it would since it’s supposed to be good for all that but for some reason my skin does not like it. (I have stuck with it for a long time hoping it would help but it didn’t). Thanks for the recommendation though! I will def check out dr Sam bunting and see if I find other suggestions! Thanks!
I've mild rosacea and breakouts, the best thing that's helped me is aluminer peels, there a type of chemical peel slowly biding up resistance of skin, there pricey but I was spending money on skincare that wasn't working m so I feel it's worth it
Hi Dr Sam- I really think Apostrophe and Agency are really good concepts however its easier for you because you know skin. For us not so easy as some of us don't know our skin very well. If my dermatologist will do the survey for me I am sure will get a better outcome.
A dermatologist… using an online dermatology service? What? Why would she need to see an online clinician when she can diagnose and prescribe herself? Or see one of her colleagues? I feel like this is obvious BS for a brand that’s sponsoring her. Total bummer, I guess she’s off my list of UA-cam derms. Back to Shereen Idriss I go!
I can see how without context it would seem ridiculous for a derm to participate in a subscription dermatology service! You’re right, I could prescribe for myself quite easily. I discussed this on my IG, but I used apostrophe because I wanted to evaluate the brand firsthand to understand what patients would also experience (and ensure that the eval and prescription process was thorough and appropriate). One of my goals as a physician is to expand access to dermatology services because so many are not able to see a dermatologist in person for whatever reason. By using the service myself I was then comfortable recommending it to others. 💕
Can you advise how long it took to receive your products from Stylevana? Upon your recommendation I have ordered some products and am having trouble with their customer service not responding. Unfortunately, I am just now reading some of their website reviews and they are not good. Many people have not received their orders and customer service not responding. I hope you can shed some light on this and confirm they are a good company to order from based on your video. here. Thank you!
