  • I've put off talking about this stack of synthesizers, drum machines, and audio gear for long enough. Let's dive into the main LGR synth setup and what I do with it! I'm still an amateur with this but here's a bit of a studio tour anyway. Weird electronic music and cool sounds of all kinds, I just can't get enough!

      I'm sure there is a decent sized overlap between us tech nerds (especially old tech), and music/synth nerds. This stuff reminds me of some demoscene music, and I love it!

    EDIT: In all seriousness, awesome video!! I have the ZOOM L-12 mixer (12 channels) and it is great. However, the effects are also one per session/project and you can only adjust the fx volume for each channel. Besides that, the extra outputs are handy for headphones or extra speakers/monitors and they had a PAD button for high/low impedance devices to reduce noise and distorted input signals. If you want to know something else, just let me know!

      @@bryanscarboddi1210 I would suggest a Cre8audio East Beast, $250. There are plenty of videos about it on here. It was my gateway drug. I'm probably as much as a musician as Clint is, I just like making cool and strange sounds and sequences and sometimes it actually sounds like music.

      I mean, there's a group of people who prefer the word producer to composer or musician, because musician usually refers either to acoustic music or pop and composer usually refers to something closer to classical music and sheet music. producer tends to refer to something made with electronic instruments.
      Also people tend to just say the fiddle with knobs instead of saying they make music because ngl it's mostly just chance

      @@chapeurato9152 Not true. These instruments can be controlled in a number of ways including keyboard, wind instruments and any number of controllers. Many of which are much more expressive and require much more skill than standard acoustic instruments (pianos don't have aftertouch). Just because they CAN be sequenced doesn't mean they are ALWAYS sequenced. Saying an electronic artist is not a musician is like saying a pianist is no musician. I play several instruments including the piano and guitar and can say, an electronic artist IS a musician.

      This is so cool. I would love to do something like this, except:
      - I don't have the space for it, still living at home.
      - Operating this equipment would be like driving a steam engine; it would be fun, but I'd have no idea what I'd be doing.

      @@QJ89 there’s plenty of opensource freeware like VCV that will familiarize you with their behavior. Daunting at first but before you know it you’re a switchboard operator.

    As an academic musician with my own definions of what music is. I guess it's a no-brainer to say that if you're playing around with sounds and hearing stuff that you like, then it's music. It doesn't need to have a beat or a defined melody or pretty textures to call it music.

      @@patrickglaser1560 It did for a while, but my major was never in performance and lately I've been rediscovering the pleasures of playing while having a totally new perspective on music and listening. It's been a really cool ride, although I'm still trying to figure out how to put food on the table.

    I have played, recorded and written music for 24 years. I Studied music at university, built my own studio and learned the important lesson of "lift with your legs" when moving your 8x10 ampeg cab.

    If you need any help with those tektronix scopes, let me know; Pocking around in old test gear is a passtime of mine, and I could probably give you some pointers.

      I might also be able to give you a few pointers with the scopes if you ever take the plunge to try to fix them.
      I've been repairing electronics professionally since I was 16 now 62. More now a hobby I love, along with Ham Radio.
      Fixed a few of my own scopes too in the past.

    Oh yeah, definitely drop a full length release.
    Track it on an _Alesis ADAT_ tape machine and release on 8-track cartridge format. Oh and the album packaging should be a _Jell-O pudding pops_ box which includes a full sized poster of yourself featured on the cover of _Tiger Beat_ magazine holding a _Slinky_ . It'd go viral 😆

    100% right there with you on the DAW-less setup. I do have an MPC One and a couple of other workstation-y items, and a Tascam portastudio, but for actually making sound - it's all hands-on and very analog feeling. I stumbled on this entirely by accident today, don't know how I missed this since I've been a lurking fan of the channel for ages!
