    I don't check for balance every time.
    should have been more clear. I have ran a
    commercial lawn business for 14 years.
    Blades get sharpened 1-2 times a month.
    If you grind them even they will not be off
    balance. It's very rare I see them off.
    You will know when they are off balance if
    you feel more vibration than normal.
    Thanks for the comment. Just to be clear.
    It is always good practice to balance your
    blades.

    When I worked at a golf course the owner insisted we spray off the grass debris every time we used a mower (every day). He said the grass will eat away at the metal. Ever since then I spray down my mower after each cutting. Only takes a moment.

    I have never thought of turning it on it's side. I have always just raised it off the ground onto blocks and reached under, just like for draining oil for those older models with convenient drain plug on bottom of deck.

    There is a torque spec on those blade bolts and there are usually bellville washers on the bolts that have to be oriented properly to work.

    I think maybe you over simplified this operation. That looked kinda dangerous with the angle grinder. Cleaning the blades of built up grass also a good idea. Helps when balancing the blades - which you seemed to skip. Also you didn't check the gap on the new spark plug. Dummy me had my blades on upside down. Didn't realize that until I brought it in to be serviced for a different issue. Blades move in a counter clockwise motion. I didn't know that either. On another note....Great job on the filming of the video. Good camera angle. Sorry for all the negativity. I should have read the other follow up comments first.

    Remove the spark plug fully, the mower can still start. The ignition lead doesn’t have to be plugged in, only has to be touching the plug.

    any issues with the carburetor ? I have this mower and the carb got gunked up so bad it wont run after only a year . never had a carg issue with briggs & stratton. Honda has a good name but I fear some of their engines are pretty bad.

      I have never had an issue with the carburetor or engines in the Honda Mowers. The only issue I have had with Hondas is the tires wearing out too fast

    • @nosilverharbinger
      @nosilverharbinger Рік тому +1

      It is likely an issue with the gas it is getting. It could be stale and/or have too much ethanol in it. That will gum up a carb on a small engine no matter what type it is.

    • @bobcaygeon4533
      @bobcaygeon4533 Рік тому

      If you have winters and store mower. Empty gas and run mower until it stalls. Never leave the gas in and never use gas with ethanal in it. I have this same honda mower for over 5 years. It is a 1 pull start lawnmower. I guess even Honda makes lemons😜.

    • @nosilverharbinger
      @nosilverharbinger Рік тому

      @@bobcaygeon4533 I agree that if you can get ethanol free gas that is the best option. The problem is that many areas don't have it available. I looked into it, and the Honda HRR216's manual says this:
      "You may use regular unleaded gasoline containing no more than 10% ethanol (E10) or 5% methanol by volume. In addition, methanol must contain cosolvents and corrosion inhibitors.
      Use of fuels with content of ethanol or methanol greater than shown above may cause starting and/or performance problems. It may also damage metal, rubber, and plastic parts of the fuel system."
      Even that can be tough because many gas stations are running 15% ethanol, and use methanol on top of that these days. In that case about all you can do is try your luck with using a fuel stabilizer that has an ethanol treatment.

    • @edfarmer154
      @edfarmer154 Місяць тому

      It ain't the honda giving you prob.... it's the ethanol gas. Honda is the top of the small engine game,, very high quality everything for decades. Look it up, ethanol gas that sits for 6 months or more turns to gunk and clogs all orifices in the carb. Stop saving $1 and buy real gas for anything that sits for months

    Does it really pay to invest $10+ to have a shop sharpen your blades? My 42" craftsman uses 2 blades. I can buy a 10-pack of oem for $75. It may make sense to do it myself with an angle grinder, but I can't see farming it out when it is less costly to purchase new.

      Not that important, they do not have to be perfect mower blades should be balanced if you have to take a lot off them because you hit something or every fifth normal sharpen. Ride on mowers with long blades require better balance due to the effect of the distance from center makes a small weight react to the revs the blade is rotating at.

      This mower was used commercially in a mowing business. It was mowing over 10 yards a day for over 5 years. This was not used as a home owner.
