    As others have said, you can take off the white plastic plate on the back and look for the cracked sotter of the long row of large sotter joints(incorrect spelling i know). If you lucky you find one or multiple with a very minor crack, magnifying glass will help. Add some sotter and your good to go. Hopefully it works for you as it did for me, before you go out spending your money. These zj’s have and unbelievable amount of electrical problems due to cracks in the sotter joints(including the pcm) so it’s always wise to check the jeep fourms to see if someone found a fix to a seemingly expensive problem

    Great job. yes a little shaky however good job. I need to do the same repair and I could not figure out the trim pieces. you never know how hard to pull on those things. Now I know they are just held in by clips.

    Thanks buddy I still don't know a damn bit more about fixing a dimmer switch. But in case I ever need to change the head light switch, thanks.👍

    my switch was flickering But it was drawing amps when the ignition was shut off drawing .81amps after a few days of not using my jeep the battery was low or dead so I am cleaning the variable resister / dimmer with electric contact aerosol hope it works. so I will get back with you after it dries out.. or I have to buy a new switch,.... the jeep switch has been flickering for ever ... good luck

    This is a video about changing the headlight switch, not the dimmer switch. The dimmer switch is on the steering column and is the switch that turns the high beams on and off and runs the windshield wipers and turn signals. That's not a dimmer switch you just worked on. I don't know how you managed to get a headlight switch replacement being you think it's called the "DIMMER" switch.

    Thanks for the post. Made me feel better about doing mine. My dimmer/dome light went. Then my auto headlight went. So I ordered and replaced. It was nice watching to see how it was done so I could do it in 30 degree temps. Not having to figure it out in the cold was nice 😬

    Good fix what is the part called for ordering, and how much should it run me. Is it just dimmer switch panel?

    Has anybody ever tried fixing it, without replacing it? I have the same issue with the flickering and sometimes it doesn't flicker the dashboard lights just go dim. If they go dim I just push against the switch and they pop back up. So to me it seems like it's something with a contact.

      This is one fixing the solder but this isn't the problem with mine. My solders are fine after taking it out. I can't find what the fuck is the problem. whole interior and headlights dim up and down for so many years.

      You won't be able to see the problem with the solder easily. On the larger line of solder joints at the edge of the board some of the solder blobs on mine had tiny, almost invisible cracks. Retouching each blob with a hot soldering iron fixed it.

      remove the white cover on the back of the switch, look for cracked solder joints along side of the plug. solder bad joints. done and save $80

    Nope not the cause of my problem. I have 98 laredo, exact same switch. The dash, radio, console all interior lights and head lights dim up and down randomly. Had the dang switch replaced and still not fixed. The current switch box is here on my desk and all looks fine. I can't find the grounding wire for all this anywhere behind the dash so far. I'm hoping when I do find it there is a weak grounding and I can fix that easily but till then I'm still searching for WHY my dash keeps dimming.

    • @SamSam-ke9zy
      @SamSam-ke9zy 6 років тому

      Nope. I had the ignition coil replaced(which was cracked) and it kept flickering. Replaced the PCM, it stopped for a little bit then came back. I had the switched replaced many years ago which didn't fix it. I checked the new one for bad solders with magnification and they look great.

      Damn all my radio lights and everything flicker as well. If I press the panel by the dimmer switch they come back on until I release pressure. Did you find out the problem on yours ???

    BEWARE YOU TUBERS Great video wrong part this is a headlamp switch. The DIMMER SWITCH is in steering column multi function turn signal.

    • @DavidBreezing
      @DavidBreezing 8 років тому +3

      Disagree. The video description is correct. The Dimmer Switch is only part of the whole, but is the main malfunctioning component because of the wear and tear (and relatively poor, in hindsight, design).
