Despite that it's a clasical song from "The Wiz" and that is originally performed by Diana Ross, the truth is that "Ted Lasso" brought me here. From season's 3 episode 11 finale.
I believe originally sung INCREDIBLY by Stephanie Mills.....but, also love Diana Ross's version.....Barbra Streisand did an amazing rendition that wasn't released until her "Release Me" album...AND I think it was just a single take....incredible......BUT, YES....watching Ted Lasso and this song begins to roll in the credits....just cried....THEN to realize it was Brandi Carlile....so so beautiful...didn't even realize it was her at first.....I was like "Who is singing this great song?"....IT WAS PERFECT!!!!!!!
The part about not knowing whether to run away or stay and fight is so resonant to those of us in Tennessee right now. It’s a true struggle when the place you feel is home feels like it is actively trying to force you to leave. Thanks for the beautiful and meaningful music. 💖

Stephanie Mills was the originator. She was the original Dorothy in The Wiz. Diana got the film role because they wanted a bigger name. (Stephanie and Michael were dating while he was shooting "The Wiz".
You should also check out Stephanie's other version. It's more R&B than her original rendition. When I tell you, listen to the end, please believe you won't be disappointed. All that voice from someone under 5 feet tall!!! (As an adult!!!) But Miss Mills was the one who set the standard. I love me some Miss Ross, but Miss Mills is highly underrated. Power and goosebumps inducing vocals!

i first heard this version of this great song watching Ted Lasso. Since then it's become an obsession. Brandi Carlile has dignified herself as one of today's great artists. We are grateful for this at our house.

I heard this song for the first time on a day I was wishing my mom was still here. My mom passed in January of this year and what I would give to go back in time and bring her back. I am having a hard time after losing her, this song is so beautiful, it helps soothe my broken heart in a bitter sweet kind of way. I think of home during a time my family was happy. During my mom’s transition some of my family members and I had some disagreements, we argued during a time we should have been bonding. Needless to say, this has made my grieving so much more than just grieving. I am hurt, and don’t know how to place these feelings, where to put them because now I am not talking to my family. Thank you for this beautiful song Brandi, your gift of song is much more than music, your music brings hope and comfort to people when they cannot see that tiny light at the end of a dark tunnel. it is your voice that lifts my mood and makes me turn around when I’m mentally heading in the wrong direction, God has blessed the world with your gift.
