He's not sorry for the joke, he's sorry for the backlash.
I mean I would to if my rock show got canceled because a bunch of snowflakes got offended over a joke
@Boosted904 That means 1) You are a coward that folds under pressure. 2) You believe the attempt on the life of a husband, father, and amazing former president can be spun as a joke, which makes you a sick individual and frankly not that smart. Since when did rock became so tame and lame? Kyle said an edgy thing on the spot as many would have said. He realised that this wasn't in good taste due to the importance of the situation and apologized. He made a bad joke at a moment he should have kept it light, but nothing in that is worthy of any drama, case closed. FFS how many band have had lyrics, graphics, music video or any other imagery, whishing the death of a political leader either from the US or elsewhere (Trump, Bush, Reagan, Thatcher, Harper, Putin, Le Pen, Hitler, Ben Laden, Hussein, ETC.) It's a commodity in the rock sphere to be heavily shocking in the expression of disdain toward politician, that doesn't mean all rock artists want real blood bath, they are just more vocal on their hate toward people they despice. Yes Kyle's comment was not expertly timed but still how many artists before him have wished horrible things to Hillary Clinton or Mike Pence live on stage in the last few years? How many public faces have been represented dead on stage by shock rock bands? Is Rock supposed to be soft, polite and cuddly now or is it still a way to rebel, to have raw expression of non comformity and a way to exteriorize emotions (sometimes hate and violence) through music and speech instead of physicaly towards others??
THANK YOU!!!!! If people getting this pissed off that they want them out of the country and cancelled then they are genuinely sad. Like you said, he made a bad a joke and quickly apologised. What more do people want!? They should look at the kunts and green day expressing their political views in their music. Most rock/metal songs are about murd3r, su1c1de or just mental health in general because thats how they express themselves through the music... not the care bears 💀💀💀 People just need to stop and think "are there bigger problems in the world right now?".
I agree with ALL of this. Metal and rock is supposed to be raw and rebellious. I don't think it's the music genres themselves going soft, I think it's the people who play it and listen to it
as Dee Snyder would put it, "it's Fight The Power, not Let's Commit Fucking Murder, Jackass!"
This ignores the context of the situation. No one really cares if you go shit talk a politician on stage, that's been normal and continues to be normal. What makes this different is that Kyle said this immediately after an assassination attempt that did result in a fatality and other injuries. Like if you said something similar after 9/11 your ass would've dropped instantly, especially if you're a big name. This isn't a case where you can deflect and say "well it doesn't matter, no one is gonna do anything anyways" because it already happened. And condoning that behavior is unbelievably irresponsible and stupid. Because you bet your ass if this rhetoric led to more of this violence on Democrats their tune would shift real fast. Your tactics will be used against you, it's why it's important to be mindful when you're acting in a political capacity.
Rock and metal has been soft for over a decade, shoe is just on the other foot so now everyone wants to call rock soft. Thy Art is Murder just fired their vocalist and he didn’t wish harm on anyone.

Why do public figures give an apology when they know right the moment they wanted to do what they wanted to do?
When you apologize to the public a lot of times you do it for survival but not because you care..
Welcome to American leftism. There's a reason leftist activists go around demanding celebrities to recite mantras, leftist professors demand their students agree politically. It's because, like the communists they celebrate, they don't care about what you actually believe so long as you submit to daddy government.
Exactly, they wanted that man dead
Well, well, well, if it isn't another comment of mine that youtube has removed probably before it ever posted.
well, youˋre not wrong, but maybe consider the possibility that people sometimes have a slippery tongue and even though they may have meant what they said, it was simply inappropriate and they didnˋt think before they spoke, which hurt someone's feelings so it's important for them personally to apologise.
Words can be hurtful and inappropriate, no matter how truthful their content is. Like, in my past relationship, my partner had panic attacks very often and for some time was mentally very unstable. For me, always looking out and caring for them bc of that was very exhausting. So one day I slipped and said that I don't want to always play nurse for them.
That was super unfair, very hurtful and simply not ok. The emotion I had was still valid and what I said very much true. But it was super inappropriate to put it like that in their presence while they were in a bad state of mind. So I immediately apologised and took accountability.
Ofc that's not the same thing. Kyle's statement didn't regard the deceased person directly. But still, someone got killed during that assassination attempt, so making a joke about that, especially so shortly afterwards, is super disrespectful and inapropriate. And as a society we should define ourselves by how we treat each other.
So maybe, just maybe, Kyle really is sorry for publically expressing his thoughts the way he did during the concert. Simply because it's the right thing to do. Also, besides the fact that someone got killed, there's also the aspect of how appropriate it is to justify violence. But if you ask me, if someone only produces and spreads violence, if someone's whole personality and life evolves around violence and making certain people's lives as miserable as possiible, this person can expect nothing else than violence themselves.
I'm not particularly saying that Trump deserves to die. I'm not the one to judge. What I'm saying, is that he had it coming and that it would have been a favor to humanity if the shooter hadn't missed bc the world would be a slightly better place without this horrible person alive. So regarding the broad condemnment of political violence - like, are all these people really sure they want to condemn all forms of political violence?
Because a) depending on how you define that, they may actually produce political violence themselves and b) should we really tolerate absolutely anything without exception? Like, what if violence is the last remaining method to actually achieve change?
I think, the ethics of political violence strongly depends on the context: Who does the violence exceed from, who's the target of the violent act, how does the act look like exactly, what is the overall aim and how likely is a success?
Does the violence depart from the proletariat or a marginalised group or does it depart from some sort of government or state? Is the target an objectively innocent person (regarding the context of the violent act) or is there some reasonable justification for the act, is the target maybe an aggitator of violence themselves? Then that's a completely different thing. How much violence does the act involve and which form exactly? Is it more violence than necessary? Are other people's lives at risk? How large is the political danger coming from the target?
Like, the assassination attempts on Hitler, most people would probably agree were morally righteous. But if the attempt on Trump is not, then you have to draw the line somewhere. Where do you draw the line, then? In any case, you automatically accept that violence can be justifiable under the right circumstances.
So long story short, I don't agree with people generally condemning political violence, especially not in this case; but I do agree that it's an absolute tragedy that someone had to die for this. And that is enough to be a tiny bit sensitive about the topic because the topic itself is senstive.
Also, context matters. If you're a comedian and you say that in a comedic setting, it's an inappropriate joke, but tolerable. If you're a musician and you say the exact same words, it's a completely different thing. And it does not automatically have to do with success or money or career. It often times has, no doubt, maybe even more often than not, idk. But it for sure isn't only one of the two all of the time.

He literally works for children’s companies and is campaigning for Joe Biden, trumps political rival. It’s not a good look for anyone he is associated with to even associate with him because of the implications.
One half of a band actively and publicly campaigning for a presidential candidate while the other half of the band suggests violence against the opposing candidate in front of thousands is what we in the industry call "not a good look."
Whole thing could've been averted with Jack saying something like, "Whoa, whoa, there, that's not very metal of you to wish harm on your fellow man, Kyle! Why don't you wish for something else, big guy?" Gass was cooked regardless, but Jack could've at least salvaged his own career, and possibly a friendship in the process.
The ONE TIME in Jack's life when he desperately NEEDED to be off-the-cuff funny, and he chokes. Dangit.
So the issue is Kyle saying shit Republicans and that made people mad
@@Dr.Spatula the issue is inciting violence
@@michaeltriola3978 yeah, same shit Republicans have been doing for over a decade
If Ronnie Radke would've said something like this he'd get a standing ovation and the key to his hometown 💀💀
No he wouldn't. He'd get shit on so hard. He has so many conservative fans, me included..
@@13kellyr I said "like this", meaning anything he'd go against
Lol. Who?
Hey mate , i had tickets for tonights show in Brisbane. Bloddy gutted!
Same here, fucking sucks all this over a bad joke
well now you both can be glad to not have to support these leftwing extremist idiots
If only Kyle didn't let his intrusive thoughts win
1 bad apple spoiling the bunch, eh? Hope yall didn't spend too much. Thats brutal.
My partner and I were going tonight too
For context on who Senator Ralph Babet is - he's a right-wing political senator in Victoria (south east Australia) which is the second most populated state in Australia. The United Australia Party is a small right-wing party. They submit lots of people in elections but the party is fairly small in our politics. He has very little sway in the policies of our country
He was still right.
@@austingtir No he was not. Deporting people for telling a dark joke is silly.
Australia has too many left-wing senators, which is why it's gone down the tubes into insanity lately.
@austingtir babet? For seeking d's deportation? No he wasn't.
The unfortunate part is I dont think Kyle meant it as a joke... That's how alienated and extreme-sided people have become with politics (on either side)
the delivery did not feel or project as a "dark humor joke" it absolutely came out as Kyle being serious and meaning what he said 100%. Jack Black makes dark humor jokes himself but even he knew that shit was fucked up regardless what political view somebody has.
It 100% wasn’t a joke.
Was not a joke. You don't come out saying how your perspective changed and apologizing if you told a bad joke, you would just admit the joke was bad. This clearly shows the malice
It came from the heart, while trying to mask it by being humorous or quippy. Like you know if someone is genuinely being mean-spirited yet trying to hide it with an attempt of humor and failing.
"How alienated and extreme-sided with politics" bro your just putting yourself here it was very much a joke, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's a serious threat
The crowd's response is the true gauge of opinion.
no, it's not. It's an australian crowd, no skin in the game. Say it during a concert in the states if you're so confident crowd opinion is the only opinion that matters.
I’m 5 minutes in and haven’t heard you say tropic thunder wtf that’s his best movie
That's the best movie he is in, but not his best movie. School of Rock, and Kung Fu Panda are just better performances and IDK if I would even say those two are his best.
Saving Silverman
He laughed and said Thank you! He wasn’t baffled. Thier insurer dropped them. He didn’t cancel the tour..
It's like Jack Black has never heard any of the Tenacious D albums, you know, like the ones about date rape and overthrowing the government and causing riots.
Some of you might think this is a hot take but hear me out. Tenacious D is a COMEDY BAND. That means that what is said during their shows is to be regarded as COMEDY!!! I did not, don't and never will consider anything anyone says during a comedy show as making a real statement or taking a political stance. Dark humor is a thing. Always was, always will be. And I usually see dark jokes as a way to cope with dark situations more so than a way to exacerbate the problem. You can think it's a dumb joke, a bad joke, a bad show as a consequence or even stop following Tenacious D overall. But for this to result in being dropped by their agency, cancelling a tour, and real life consequences on their careers, proves nothing but a total lack of understanding of the very concept of comedy on a mass cultural scale and I find it very concerning. And I'd have the same stance if it was a dark pro-Trump joke. Good or bad, let jokes be jokes.
Used to love these guys. And that movie I REALLY dug the soundtrack. My son and I lived through that movie and loved every song! From "The Greatest Song in the World" to all of this, we were HUGE fans. Done though.
Just saw someone in the twitch feed say "no one cares about the person who died, it's an afterthought"..... no it's not an afterthought. It literally been at the forefront of this entire thing.
Tell that to Gass.
Lol that Senator is with a pretty much unknown political party in Australia. I guess he's got some promotion out of this by being outraged.
It's not just fucked up when artists are being canceled and held accountable for (bad) jokes but politicians can say and do anything without repercussions. It is dangerous beyond anything we have seen in history, and this is where we are now in the media climate (Nik even censoring himself from saying ANYTHING POLITICAL ALTHOUGH EVERYTHING IS POLITICS, mate you can take the music history root of every punk rock star wishing Reagan and Thatcher dead, without punk rock no Metalcore, Tenacious D or Nik Nocturnal YT channel).
Of cause it's wrong to wish anyone dead, even in a joke, but why hold musicians to this high standard of being ideal citizens all the time and further the fascist agenda of self censoring art?
Sad. Pathetic. Complicit.
Because someone literally died to that attempt just before this, the joke was WAY to soon for the harm the event brought
I do agree politicians need to be held to standards though, our standards are incredibly low and we let them get away with actual felonies
People only care cuz it's trump. If Biden was the one then nobody would care
In the grand scheme of things it seems like this would actually happen in a Tenacious D movie
Jack black doesn’t need Tenacious D. Kyle does .
Innocent people died. A father and firefighter. Thats why people are mad.
Yep, shielding his child from bullets. Plus how many other lives has he saved.
Talk about an overreaction. Kyle just said the quite part out loud. It's not like others aren't saying it to family and friends in private conversations.
“Duuuuude, he totally missed trump, he totally missed trump”
To be fair comedians say whatever they want like 911 jokes racial stuff so I really think people are overreacting just because it's jack black on stage if it was Kevin hart dave chappelle or Shane Gillis they wouldn't have bothered or said a damn thing
People have gotten extremely mad at every one of those figures you’re talking about 😂
Kevin Hart plays it soooo safe that people hate him for being an industry plant 😂
Shane Gillis was literally kicked off SNL because of a joke about asians during that time which cannot be mentioned
I mean, they literally tried to destroy, erase and someone literally tried to kill Dave Chapelle at one of his shows so Idk wtf you’re yapping about 😂
@@DevonHberman-im6bx Dave Chapelle has never even remotely come close to losing his career from any of the shit hes said and you're ignoring that point.
I hate how us Aussie fans are getting the brunt of it. Legitimately so pissed that people got so worked up over this. My most hyped night of this entire year was going to be this Saturday. I’m fucking fuming
😂😂😂😂😊
How to get canceled at your own birthday party
5:50 the song City Hall would beg to differ, lol.
Just here to say the skyrim speech increase bit had me dying
Tenacious D got Dixie Chicked XD
Idk I thought it was funny
It's a spicy meatball of a take but I don't think Tenacious D would've been canceled in the end, and thus in a panic Jack self-sabotaged themselves.
True
they lost their insurance for the remaining shows, pretty much had to cancel.
@@s.o.n. I meant canceled in the sense of cancel culture. Jack Black was so worried about never ever working again so he put them further into a spot where Tenacious D is likely to never work again.
I'm on the same page as you, but i think if NOFX could apologize and eventually recover then so can Tenacious D. It's a huge blow, but it dosent have to be the end. Alot of that will depend on if and how Jack chooses to move forward
NOFX is not, nor ever has been, as popular as Jack Black. Not even a close comparison.
Thank you for being non-biased about this. 🙏🏼♥️ Hearts & prayers out to the families of those hurt or worse at this event.
Kathy Griffin syndrome is the worst form of TDS. The brain gradually turns into purple gelatin. So sad to see Kyle and Jack infected with this horrible mind-virus after using their new gamer bandmate Destiny's guitar pick. Now Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny will have to be quarantined while we search for a cure.
I think it’s also that it literally just happened, like edgy jokes like that are gonna sound MUCH worse when they’re about something so recent
People are throwing Jack Black under the bus here on both sides like he's the one that said it. The dude has like 3 movie franchises on his back and he's not going to get away with shit like this unscathed. And people are crazy if they think this is only JB's decision. Kyle's agent already abandoned him and I'm positive they cancelled the tour to get ahead of the likely fallout that was about to happen. Like, it's pretty obvious what their politics are and they not afraid to write about it. But these guys aren't Rage Against the Machine and saying that joke hours after the incident wasn't going to end well for a goofy rock band.
1:37 that’s THE METAL!!
his agility as a big guy was his character in Community
2:55 The funny thing is that you know Jack 100% agrees with him and has even stated such (on social media) but in the middle of a show is kinda crazy, especially since they're an older band most of their fans might be Trump fans.
I remember Jack Black the most from "Shallow Hal".
Underrated comment
Also part of the military detail in the Mars Attacks Movie. "I surrender"
jack didn't choose to cancel the tour. all the venues canceled the shows because the cost would be insane with the amount of insurance they would need to have and the extra security that would be needed.
Source?
@@Matt_M_again look it up!! The info is readily available at your fingertips TOO
I can't believe this is what people are freaking out about.
no way bro did a " ____ situation is insane" title
Idk, I like Gwar, heavy metal should be able to make dark jokes.
None of these people could handle Gwar lol
Legend has it Kyle was so pissed at himself that he went home and punched a hole through his dry wall
Who cares? People have been saying anti-government things for years.
if the first thing after "make a wish" to pop up in your head is something like what he said - you are either the happiest person on the earth or have a severe demetia
Niks hair represents this entire situation
Tenacious D is a comedy duo, they say dumb shit. The reaction to this is fuckin' crazy.
Dude, they are both tiny, tiny people. I'm talking dwarves from Lord of the Rings tiny. Like diggy, diggy hole, tiny.
I miss when comedians could make jokes. I get it’s not everyone’s type of humor, but they are comedians and KG tried to get a rise and laugh out of the crowd. Shall we condemn all the audience that laughed and applauded the joke?
Humor is subjective. People are allowed to laugh at terrible jokes just like I'm allowed to think that they're terrible people for laughing. There's not much anyone can do about it.
