Why does the AFL need five years to set up the new Tasmanian Team when they set up all the other clubs in such short amounts of time. Could it be that the AFL prefers its current set up of the Tasmanian Taxpayer paying NTH and the Hawks millions every year? The AFL will use any excuse to delay a Tasmanian AFL Team.

Adelaide especially had a pool of hundreds of players which could be made AFL ready, a stadium with a 45k capacity, experienced club administrators, football managers and coaches in a fairly good comp. Adelaide’s best were taken to the VFL but the 2nd tiers were largely untapped. These days they are noticed and guys like Bickley, smart, Jameson, rehn, tregenza etc are drafted.
Times are different and far more controlled, can’t imagine tassies first squad nicking footballs 😅

As the 1.24 and 2.07 minutes mark of this Bad//Dreems video will attest to.

So Port Adelaide showing initiative and wanting to challenge themselves in a better league is apparently a blunder?

I find it interesting that they chose the Crows as their nickname when SA was known as the Croweaters. Which was a more aggressive name towards a black and quite annoying pest of a bird. If Port hadn't attempted to join the AFL in 1991 and therefore instigated the Crows' quick entry that year instead of 1993, what players could have gone interstate if things were different? Would have the younger players like Hart, Smart, Bickley, Rehn, Modra, Riccuito, Liptak, etc. stayed? Would have the older players like Marschall, McDermott, A Jarman, Maynard, Lee, etc, played AFL? Can you imagine a Port squad in the AFL in 1991 had things been different with players like Wanganeen, Buckley, McLeod, Wakelins, Bonds, Chalmers and later on Didak as well as some of the initial Crows players?

Port should have been the first team and norwood second. Have the 2 most successful teams in Australia become the afl teams. But no they made adelaide which have been nothing but a burden on south Australian football.

A lot of errors in this video. Calling Port Adelaide the Power in 1990, referring to Darren Jarman as a "South Adelaide Superstar"", etc. And why is Port Adelaide's initiative in wanting to join the best competition of the code referred to as a "blunder" when it was in fact ballsy and visionary? Poorly researched.
