Longmire and Franklin overstayed their tenure by a couple of years. Franklins exorbitant salary had financially hamstrung the Swans from recruiting a solid team, and Franklin lacked the X-Factor to win games off his own boot. He was an athlete not a pure footballer such as Ablett, Dustin Martin, Bontempelli, Petracca, etc. and was grossly overpaid according to his football skill level. This put Longmire in a difficult position as there was little to no cap space left to recruit quality key position players to carry out his game plan.

They had a shocking injury run in the second half of the season. I'm not going to argue about where the responsibility for that might lay, all I'll say is you can't lose that much quality and not have a drop off.

The first half of St Kilda's season was a trainwreck, but the end of the season they salvaged some pride to finish with 11 wins and finish 12th. Would like to see The Saints go up in 2025 and do well.

The Saints getting Brendan Bolton is a huge get that no one seems to be talking about. Yeah he was a horrible senior coach but he's probably the best assistant coach in the league. Very successful stint at Hawthorn as Clarko right hand man and more recently at Collingwood. I may be wrong but I believe Craig McCrae or one of the other coaches at Collingwood said that he was the architect of there game style. With him coming on as an assistant at St Kilda I reckon he can help fix there attacking problems and might just be the thing that the saints are missing. Im 50/50 on whether they make the 8 but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they finish as high as 5th.

I think the young midfield core will be impressive and Hugo Garcia will take a massive step up. Theres some very big young players that should be able to take the next step in 2025. Still dont think its a finals team but with how close the comp is if we can take those small margin losses and flip them into wins they absolutely can be a problem. Great review guys.
