The 12 mini is honestly still amazing even today, so small yet so powerful in EVERY compartment (except battery).
Literally all apple has to do is make it again and make the back plastic so you can just buy a replacement battery when it starts going bad. But apple hates the idea of their customers having brains just like they hate bezels so it wont happen
@@victorkreig6089 I don’t think we’ll ever get a plastic iPhone just for the sake of “premiumness”. It would basically destroy half of the premium branding. Even the cheapest iPhone (se) is still full glass.
And btw, the problem isn’t really battery degradation (also that but not the major) but rather the small battery size to begin with. We would need a new battery technology to be usable even at such little capacities.
Repurposing the iPhone mini with USBC and a new chip would be such a winner. I use mostly Android but the iPhone mini is the IOS device that I find truly fascinating. It's just so damn unique.
Sadly, I imagine it's more efficient for them too Make the larger chassis stuff since they sell more of them. But damn would that be a great way to revive the mini series and keep a smaller phone alive.
I find it borderline tragic the iPhone mini will probably never exist with USB-C.
Couple years ago there was no rumors claiming USBC would come to iPhone and we were told they were going portless. Don’t give up hope 🙏🏼
They sold more minis than the 14 plus so maybe bigger isn't always better.

Ad drew mentioned at around 6:06. The 12 is currently 599, remove another 100 and it’s 499, give that the custom modem (cheaper) maybe a custom apple display (?) and a newer chip and you basically get a 499 SE which would be a beefier 12/12 mini. Also because if you remember, apple didn’t sell 12minis particularly well so maybe the “bodies” of the phones are still many and lying around apples storage.
I prefer the smaller iPhones for convenience but they get Anoying dying in like 2 hours the battery life is way worse than the others
I think Apple has enough 6.1 inch iPhones already. I really want them to recycle the 13 Mini.
If thats the case. They cant price it higher because the 12/13 mini still exists. They cant price it lower because OLED and 5g.

Anything SE is too good to be true, but because of the last event where they actually gave the SE 3 screentime anything can happen
They need more options for small phones. I get people want big phones but not everyone wants that or needs all the extra bulk. Personally I like the iPhone SE and I’d like it to adopt the iPhone XR design maybe with better squared off edges going forward but it needs to have the A17 chip because the SE phones have always launched with the newest chip at the time.

a 12 mini esque iphone se would be super awesome. Here's what I think would make it even better, make it a single camera, and then use the extra space for a bit bigger battery. That would possibly generate more attention since it would get pretty decent battery at that point.
That would be a really good deal. Which is super unlikely for Apple. I think it'll launch at 599 if it does.

I think if like you said they make it with: USB type C, custom 5G modem, the body of an iPhone 12, and they make where it's 449 completely unlocked then yes absolutely without a doubt I would buy that phone tomorrow. While I love love compact phones, I'm more in the camp of price. If they can give me a really nice modern looking iPhone at 449 that has 5G and type C then I can live with it being 6'1 inch or even 6'3 and not a 5 something inch phone.

I always thought the mini was originally supposed to be the next form factor for the SE. having a 6.1 OLED makes no sense, especially if there are still two cameras, that’s a no compromises device, so either the price goes way up or there are 2 SE models or something else that is uncharacteristic.
My call is that it’s either the mini, or LCD, or a worse camera, or all of the above.
I had this idea for a long time and it's nice to hear from a youtuber that apple should make SE into mini model body, everyone is so obsessed with large display iphones.
Sounds good to me. OLED vs LCD was the big question and it sounds like it's using OLED, with that, probably getting A17 half a year after the flagships, AND being the first with the wifi + modem in house Apple combo chip, sounds like a damn good package. What am I really giving up, one or two extra cameras? A lot of zoom shots are just cropping in on the main lens anyways
I’d rather the phone have one less ugly lens anyway. For me all those extra huge cameras are useless.
A17 will be on the 15 Pros so I don’t think they’d put it on the SE 4. Will probably have A16 like the regular 15

Are usbc cables more reliable than lightning? I get 6 months out of a quality lightning cable and it craps out. This would be the only reason I would really care about the switch
I have the SE 2 right now and wanting to choose from the iPhone 13 or the iPhone 14 Plus. I want the 13 but I love the 14 Plus with its screen size even though it’s only $200 less than the Pro Max but I would think it will still save $200 from the Plus to the Pro Max. Any recommendations? Should I get the iPhone 13 or 14 Plus? (I’m also wanting the 13 because of how nice the Product Red is but to me the 14 Plus Red is still nice but it just seems to Red, I think it’s just me)
Yes, the Red on 13 is deeper than 14's. It's not a good choice now to purchase a 13 series iPhone since the RAM is only 4GB. 14 plus is a better choice.
I’d take the 14 plus in this situation but if you’re willing to go used or refurbished (or you happen to find a new one left), a 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max is what I’d take

idea: iphone se 4 having a similar design as the old iphone 4: sharp square edges, only one camera, but the twist: the new screen with the notch and no home button. paying homage to an old design, very nostalgic, but at the same time, giving it a modern spin, i guess? this is entirely a fantasy but it just occurred to me
It makes more sense that the SE4 be based on iPhone 12 mini or 13 mini. The screen size would be comparable to that of the SE2/SE3 and will differentiate it from iPhone 12, 13, or 14.
If I had to guess, by the time the SE 4 comes out, Apple will not be selling the 12 or 13 anymore new.
Well, I'm not sure on this: the 6.1 size it's the most popular, and instead Apple has always used an older, visibly different form factor for SE models...
Also, even if in the US there is a price gap of 170$ right now, for example in Italy it jumps to 280€ (560 vs 840), so I don't see many people going for an SE4 in a couple years if it jumps from 560 to let's say 700€
I can imagine them going with the XR or the 11 for the new SE, but I would be shocked if they went for the 12. 12-14 are 99% similar and it wouldn’t make sense for Apple to release something that looks like a base 14 that runs as good or better at a lower price.
I'd pre-order the SE if they use the 11 with an A15 bionic chip...Think of the battery life and the ultra-wide etc. I would like that a lot because as a current XR user, the body shape us great, I do think the size on the Xr and 11 is the best size I think there than the 5.8". I would like to see an 11 body with a new chip. that's all I want. I miss out on the ultra wide camera on my XR and seeing my mates use it in certain ways I just want

Drew, I have a feeling the Touch ID used in iPad mini 6 in the power button would come to the se 4. It would simplify build and cost. That way Apple would still have Touch ID.
i just realized this after looking at that upclose picture of the usbc port/..it looks like a major pain in the ass to clean. what's wrong with the lightning port? hopefully they stick with the lightning port for a while.

@@TailosiveTech I didn’t find any problems with it. it was built like a tank when other phones were dealing with garbage like mini and micro usb.
And the lightning port was a result of natural progress in tech…not something that was mandated by legislation.
Unless Apple has found a way to make it just as robust, i feel like it’s a step back.
Not convinced they’d recycle the iPhone 12 body with OLED. (Just look at how they knee-capped the iPad 10 to get the price lower) I personally think an LCD iPhone 11 is more likely. Personally I’d like a smaller phone, but I think 6.1 makes the most sense. (Wouldn’t it be sweet if they surprised us with a 5.8 inch iPhone X / XS style SE?)

5.7 and 6.1 inch display is just sweet. I'm not sure about majority of people's preference but i find that anything larger than 6.1inch display makes it hard for me to reach the top of the screen to check my notifications. Also, i kinda wish they adopt XR or XS design. I really love the simple camera layout. The reason why i switch from realme 5 pro to xs max is because of the camera placement. Phones nowadays have a way atrocious camera placement and it looks ridiculous. Xperia and S23 lineup's camera is nice but they're really expensive. I don't want to pay so much money on feature that i don't even know how to use. Some of us prefer a simple design, great battery, decently good camera and decently good performance. That's it. I'm gonna continue using xs max until they release SE 4 probably next year or somewhere around 2025. I think by then, it's the right time for me to switch.
I was really hesitant to go from xs to iPhone 12 / 13 / 14 shape as it’s a tiny bit bigger but also quite square. It hasn’t been as bad as I thought. What is worse is the weight of something like the 13 pro . They should make the iPhone SE 4 like the xs. To stay a bit smaller. I just hope they make the new ones lighter
I think the SE route would ideally be either the mini but my gut feeling is that they'll use iPhone XR hardware minus the chip. Or else they would cannibalize the normal number series too much. Price at around 300 and you got a successful iPhone. They can advertise it as. "the same price as when the first iPhone launched" and using going back to the root theme or something

Mini as the new form factor for the next SE would seem like a no brainer, but maybe that doesn’t make enough profit for Apple, or maybe they think it would be a bit too cannibalising to their other more expensive phones just at the moment. To me the mini design is too good to just throw away - I hope it comes back in the future.
Just bought the 13 Mini cause it's the last good small phone. I'd buy an SE in the 13 mini body with the newest chip as soon as it was available. Really hope Apple reintroduces small phones.

I love your idea of recycling the 12 line for the SE 4. And the only way I see this happening is if they use the 12 mini chassis. I don’t like small phones at all so at first I was like noooo. But then someone pointed out that the SE line has always had a small screen and form fact (4 inch and 4.7 inch). So it’s not like that would turn people away. If Apple was smart they’d take a 12 mini, pop in an A16/17 chip (whatever the base iPhone 15 has), throw usb c on there and call it a day. Keep the same camera system from the 12 to cut down costs. And release it in a range of great colors (not just red black and white). And hopefully they can find a way to improve the battery life. Price it around $429-449. That phone would sell like hot cakes.
Unfortunately, what I actually think they’ll do is everything you said but with the XR or 11 chassis. if they recycled the 6.1 inch 12 chassis, it would be wayyy too similar to the iPhone 13/14 (and probably 15) and definitely cannabalize them. And we know Apple will never let that happen. If not the 12 mini chassis, I can see them going with the 11 chassis. I’m pretty sure the iPhone 8 was out of production when the iPhone SE 2 came out but they used its chassis anyway. I could be wrong about that tho.

Sad, I hate their oled iPhones. Have the 12 now and it causes migraines so often because i's a very cheap strobing oled panel (PWM), like on most tvs, unlike pc monitors. Which I guess for the SE is acceptable but for the expensive phones, heck no. Never again oled for me, unless it's a decent panel.
Nice, I literally never use the ultrawide camera, I don't care about 120hz on a phone, but must have OLED, usb-c, MagSafe, non terrible battery life.

Wouldnt an iPhone 12 with a new chip not just almost be an iPhone 14. I think that would be way to expensive. I think a Xr would be more realistic but it would miss features like MagSafe etc

I'd love to get a mini but the screen is just a bit too small for some of the things I want to do. I'd consider upgrading to a 6.1" OLED SE, but maybe the 5th generation since I already have a 13 and it might be lacking a few features the 13 has.

While i dislike this outcome (because im a mini supporter), i do believe this is the approach apple would take.
Im a bit more surprised at oled displays. While i get that time has made the manufacturing processes cheaper for apple. Lcd is probably dirt cheap for them and the reasoning for a 5.9ish inch screen would be because apple isnt using oled and thus the bezels would be bigger.
Regardless if this phone came out this spring id definitely consider it. I enjoy tech and nice specs but i know i dont use much of my phone to appreciate those features and would rather have something simpler. But waiting around 13-14 months for a _potential_ product is a bit much.
My personal opinion is that it's the correct decision to make it about affordability and giving majority of the people a better screen size.

I really wish they would keep the iPhone 12/13 Mini design and use it on the next SE. Not everybody likes to have a giant smartphone, some of us prefer an actual hand-sized phone. Using the regular iPhone 12/13/14 size limits the size options for users, and it would be hard to keep the current US$429 price. Besides, people who just want the cheapest new iPhone to use until it runs out of iOS support wouldn't care that much about size, that's why the SE2 and SE3 were still around for so long.
Idk why the Apple iPhone SE is being hated by many people, because they just can't accept the fact that it's a budget iPhone that receives more iOS updates!
I really doubt they would use the 12 design . It will probably be the X or Xr are notoriously cheap when it comes to the SE . The only good ones was the first SE ( the best) and second SE .

There are some explicitly unconfirmed rumours that they might have a power-button touch-ID sensor rather than face-ID. They are saying that Apple haven't decided what to do there yet.

The really awkward part about Lightning is that even if I buy an iPhone 15 my AirPods Pro 2, magsafe battery pack, magic mouse, magic keyboard, etc will all still be using the old port...

I just don’t understand Apple. No 14 mini, no SE this spring apparently. Why is there such a push for so many larger phone options. Just simplify the lineup to mini/SE, regular, and max/ultra. 3 sizes should be enough. Could even continue offset releases to have the main event in the fall for regular and ultra and then have the smaller budget phone in the spring.
The SE is actually recycled every 4 years, not 2. The only reason there was a 2022 SE is because the mobile providers wanted a cheap iphone 5g device to push more people onto 5g. That is why the 2020 and 2022 were mostly the same except the chip and 5g. 2024 makes sense, it will be 4 years from the 2020 SE. It will also have a new design, just like from the original SE to the SE 2.
I a bigger SE would be the sweet spot. Literally take the 12 and reduce the price to $400 and you are good but make it LCD or something and banger. Whenever we have the 11 in stock 9 times out of 10 the consumer chooses the 11 over the SE due to the bigger screen.
I so hope they upgrade the minis to their own line since SE is still a thing.. I hope they beef it up because technology is there

Whether the SE4 uses the Mini design or a 6.1" design doesn't matter, it just needs good battery life. Android phones have caught up with iPhones now, and the fact that the iPhone SE has such terrible battery life at the price it's sold for is criminal.
Hopefully this is also wrong, and they apply common sense and use the 13 mini as the base for the next SE. That makes much more sense, as a 6,1" SE will cannibalize the regular iPhone, and just offer a watered down version of that, whereas the 5,4" form factor offers something different as well without the cannibalization of the rest of the range.
On price, we won't see another SE phone at £399 or even £430 even if they use the same body.
Inflation is 14% in Europe, and Apple will take the opposite to increase revenue even if their supply chain inflation rate isn't quite that high
Why oled? And why so much bigger? Most people that buy the SE is because it's smaller and has the home button.
When I was selling phones the reason most people bought the SE was actually less to do with size and more to do with price honestly. So if another iPhone out-priced it cause it was on sale they'd take that phone instead a lot of the time.
It's why the Mini didn't sell well. People didn't want a small phone as much as they wanted a cheap phone.

Or you know...stick with the current design of the iPhone SE and just update the chipset and throw in a newer camera sensor. The SE should literally just be the iPhone with a home button and stick with that.

If you are making a phone at a size that's actually practical the screen size isn't a damn issue, make it small, give it a decent battery, give it one camera that takes pictures that actually look like real life instead of a damn tech demo, make sure the software won't crap out after 2 years.

Looking back 2022 will probably be remembered as one of the worst year’s for Apple with the nonsensical and mediocre iPhone SE 3, iPhone 14, and iPad 10 among other unnecessary products released that year.
