Ever thought about playing Rimworld? Me too! So I've jumped in for the very first time and now I am here to give you a review of what trying to figure out this game is like. spoiler. Its amazing
RimWorld is a construction and management simulation video game developed and published by Montreal-based developer Ludeon Studios. Originally called Eclipse Colony, it was initially released as a Kickstarter crowdfunding project in early access for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux in November 2013, and was officially released on October 17, 2018. The game was also released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as RimWorld Console Edition on July 29, 2022, with development and publishing being handled by Double Eleven. Rather than a test of skill or a challenge, the game is intended to serve as an AI-powered "story generator", where the game is used as the medium for players to experience narrative adventures. The game has received generally positive reviews from critics and overwhelmingly positive reviews from PC players on Steam. - Ігри
I’ve only just recently sat down and finally put some time into the game after owning it for years. I had 3 failed attempts at a colony before finding some success and having a hilarious series of events.
From the starting 3 colonists, up until I recruited my 7th, only 1 had good shooting stats. Hairy was his name. He absolutely came in clutch during some tough battles and expeditions. Sadly, he was ravaged by a pack of feral squirrels and I couldn’t get to him in time.
Straight after we managed to recruit a woman named Gumby, who had even better skills with weapons. Unfortunately this was when Randy decided we could take on some mechs. Gumby stood her ground and managed to walk away with her life after having her arm blown off. 2 days later I’m raided 3 separate times in a row and managed to lose 1 of the docs and Gumby, who had her lungs shot and the other arm blown off. Barely a day later and a 4th raid came to finish me off. Eventually it came down to Dan. A plant lover who enjoyed cooking and was incapable of violence. Rip in peace Colony 4
My favorite Rimworld story is one that is of heartwarming, yet heartbreaking. It's the story of Engie and Hanyou.
I had a small tribe of ethical cannibals. It started out as a husband and wife team named Bear and Comcadu that were exiled from their old tribe. The committed a massive taboo and were kicked out. But this is not their story. The new tribe that Bear and Comcadu had been established for a while and had a few other members. Hanyou and Engie had come in later.
Hanyou joined the tribe because he was running away from raiders. You see, he was a slave that was genetically modified for the sex trade. He managed to escape and was able to get in contact with Bear and Comcadu. Hanyou was a Highmate human who couldn't fight at all, but had very high cooking, social, and especially critical doctor skills. He was very happy, kind, peaceful man. The tribe was happy to have a better doctor and a sort of 'face' when dealing with merchants and converting prisoners. A very good person to have considering the tribes *ahem* 'reputation'.
Engie was a different story. She was a member of a pirate raider faction that thought Bear's tribe was weak and therefore easy pickings. That was not true. Her raider band was wiped out in the assault and she was downed. When the fight was over, Bears tribe showed her mercy and took her prisoner. Over the subsequent days, it was Hanyou that came in and talked with her, tended her wounds and tried to get her to join the tribe. The tribe noted on how strong not only in body but of mind that it took for her to survive their defense. Engie was a Waster who had great melee skills. She was physically tough and was hyper aggressive. She would make a great warrior. Hanyou convinced her that she would have a real family at her back, unlike those pirates that treated her bad and left her to die. She joined.
Over time, those two got used to their new family and their 'urges'. Engie would join the other warriors to defend the tribe and Hanyou would patch up their injuries as well as alay other tribes worries about dealing with a cannibalistic tribe. With all the time that Engie recovered after battles, she kind of fell for Hanyou's kind bedside manners. And he felt that he needed a bodyguard when he went out to pick wild medicinal herbs. While she wasn't the prettiest girl, (seriously look up Wasters on the wiki) she was pleasant to talk with and good to have around to watch his back. Over time, they became lovers and he proposed.
During their fairly long courtship, Engie got pregnant with their first child. Three days before they were to take their vows, she went into labor. The baby, Zoga, ended up stillborn. Sometimes that's the way of life on The Rim. The tribe held a funeral for the baby and put her in a stone coffin in the tribes temple. Still the pair decided to do right by Zoga, by getting married. They ended up holding their vows in front of where she was buried as a way of including their lost little one.
Over time, the pair slowly healed from the loss, and even the tribal's spiritual leader Comcadu allowed Engie to quasi-adopt one of her babies named Wulf. It acted as a sort of therapy for Engie and she ended up becoming best friends with Comcadu. Wulf eventually became a farmer. A year after the loss of their first child, Engie and Hanyou had another baby. She was a happy, healthy little girl they named Ayla. Ayla got daddy's good looks and mom's toxic immunity. At the age of 13, little Ayla took down her first raider in defense of their home. Mom and dad were so proud that they let her keep his skull as her trophy for her bedroom. And that is their story.
Tl;dr
So I had a colony where my doctor got sick. Since my doctor was the only one with decent medical skill, she eventually succumb to her illness. Later, her husband had a mental break and decided to go after someone . The target he picked was a guest that I was being paid to host at my colony. I had the guest run out into the wilderness to get away from him. Eventually the guest got far enough away from him and picked a new target…. A nearby turkey
…. if I’m remembering correctly, it was a mental break where he tries to beat someone up not murder them, so he wasn’t using a weapon. He tried to attack the turkey with his bare hands. The turkey tore him to shreds 🤣😂🤣😂
… I had to send someone with a gun out to shoot the turkey and rescue him 🤣

Lemme share a very recent story.
I started with 3 colonists:- Michael, Trevor and Franklin, in a prehistoric biome. Things were going slightly rough. Spent the first days making a clearing in the thick forest, setting up a barrack and a store room. Killed the small initial raids and survived man hunter packs of velociraptors by locking the colonists in their barracks. Things were looking up, boring even. All of a sudden there was another raid, this time a single sniper. I thought, well that's no issue. But turns out it was a huge issue. She somehow managed to one shot Trevor and Franklin from a distance, then in the ensuing sniper battle between her and Michael, she downed him and started kidnapping him. I thought all was lost, this is how it all ends, a good colony got turned upside down in the blink of an eye by a single sniper. While she was dragging Michael across the river however, a miracle happened. She lost her footing in the river and fell, starting to drift away. Using this chance, Michael mustered the last bits of his energy to get back on his feet, and melee the sniper till she was incapacitated, and then took her prisoner. The next two days were spent by Michael tending to his wounds and gradually removing organs and limbs from his new prisoner as revenge. I plan on dishing out so much pain to the prisoner that she wished she never raided my colony.
I got almost 3000 hours in rimworld and I'm still suprised how well the different systems interact with each other to make unique situations.
I‘ve heard so much praise for this game, but I‘ve never gotten to experience it yet. I just got the Steam Deck OLED and saw that this game is verified for the Deck, can‘t wait to give Rimworld a shot on the go.
That's where I played 95 percent of my gameplay and it's amazing
I got rimworld after I got my deck and (after some rebinding) it actually felt more comfortable to play than on PC.
You should NOT only have 2.71k subs. I've never played rimworld but your video was brilliant, keep going.

I switched from some designer races to a character that woke up naked and alone in the middle of a forest. She was a badass though and after struggling to survive and build up a small community of support around her she manages to find love… and then Randy sent the raiders… for 3 consecutive days raids pelted the tiny community of 7 adults and my first pawn, Io’s infant child. During the first raid Io lost her husband and father of her child. On the third day of raids Io and our chief farmer died throwing the community into chaos as they struggled to keep enough food in storage to feed themselves. But we lit lanterns to honor the dead and invited in new fanatics of our casual community religion and now they thrive… and Io’s grave stands empty…. Because they ate her. Oh. Did I forget to mention they’re cannibals?
Rimworld is not a game you win... it's a game you *play*
and after you've played it enough, you begin to see the parallels to the real world, and start picking your relationships a lot more careful.
you can't help people who don't want to be helped, and you nobody who says "I can help" really knows how to help without knowing the whole story.
"you have to do this to solve this problem" simply DOESN'T WORK in Rimworld, without considering the entirety of the problem, which is the whole of the colony, with it's colonists and their baggage of personalities.
....and, taking that to the real world changes a LOT of situations.
I'm not particularly good at this game, but getting artists and trying to draw the descriptions on the statues has always lead to hours of fun. Of course I constantly play with Randy Random on so that tends to make it difficult to be good at anything.

Rimworld is a truly perfect game, it's easily my most played game on steam and the modding community is so good at what they do
It really is amazing. One of my 2 most played steam games... Up there with binding of Isaac lol
I once had a group of 3 people whos religion could best be described as polyamorous nudist canabilism. They aimed their escape pods at a nice mountainous region in the north. Figuring they could tunnel out a grand temple in the rocks.
Early on a failed attack by raders left them with a prisoner. Although tempted to use her in their holy feast they realised she had skills they were missing and they desperately needed an extra pair of hands. Although they eventually converted her to their religion, she refused to join the colony, and they had to settle with having her as a slave.
Mid autumn a group of 7 travellers passed through offering to work in exchange for a months shelter. They were happily taken in and put to work. And thats when things started to go wrong...
Turns out that far north had a very short arrible season and right after they joined up all the crops died to the cold. The next few weeks were tense with the dwindling food supplied and the much bigger population to feed. After lots of difficulties they scrapped by and rhe travellers were ready to move on.
But our group had a plan, a few days before they left, whilst sleeping, all the doors to each of their bedrooms were quietly removed and replaced with wooden walls. The idea being to starve them out and restock the fridge for the rest of winter.
Unfortunately one of rhem had grenades and blew a hole in the side of rhe cabin. They all escaped and left the group needing ro urgently take the generators wood supply to patch the hole.
Rhings got desperate, but luckily the high priestess was a good shot, and her hunting kept the group just barely alive. Though being a devout nudist going on long hunting excursions had its own issues, and in frustration of being hungry cold and wearing warm clothing she had a psychotic break out in the wilderness and went cataonic.
Her lover immediately rushed out to rescue her, unfortunately the cave he tried to take a shortcut through was infested and ge was eaten by bugs, while she was stuck freezing in the snow.
The only remaining person in the base lacked the skills to discipline the slave so she revolted and stabbed her to death, then set the house on fire and lay down on the floor and let the flames consume her.
The first day I got it, I started playing that night, only to stop playing the next day at dawn because I needed to, seven hours later, resuming upon waking. It is exciting, challenging, hilarious, and infuriating, and I am generally ambivalent about Sims. I can absolutely see myself playing this for years.

Silver meteor came down early in my first play thru. Followed by a band of peaceful slavers. I ended up purchasing whom I thought was a pyromaniac psychopath which turned out to be my favorite worker, an 18 old female named shark. No pants and only enough scraps for a shitty t shirt, she stabbed a grizzly to death after my original colonists had wounded it with firearms

made a new game w 2 ppl . one died bc i tried to alleviate his pain by removing his scarred left leg to replace with a peg leg and somehow my doctor removed his neck . i thought all was lost . my lone survivor buried his friend and i quickly realized the one i was left with couldnt chop trees , harvest crops or tame animals . i had no way of getting medicine or wood for fuel . he was already very close to a mental break and i thought once the small amount of wood i had was gone he would lose his mind or any disease would kill him without medicine . then a rival tribes member arrived on my map and passed out . i took her prisoner and turned her to a slave . now i can use her to get wood for me and harvest my crops . all is not lost . lets gooo

The ideology system that the DLC adds turns it into a totally different game
I havnt played the dlc individually I just turned them all on so I'm not sure what all it changes.... I do know that I disliked how many times my colonists got into fights over religion. Probably realistic though lol
@@AmateurGameReview you're supposed to convert them to your ideology before recruiting so there wont be any ideological disputes between your colonist 🤭
That makes more sense. Lol so I bought the dlc mid colony and it gave me 3 or 4 of each religion.... I actually have 4 churches in my colony to try and keep everyone happy. It doesn't work

I want polyamory to be legal, when I play Rim World, and socialism will be the governing model!
It's extremely difficult (essentially impossible because even if you try your pawns won't respect it) to implement a capitalist economy in rimworld. The nature of the colony is utopian effectively stateless communism, though you can RP a state of sorts. You can also make polyamory the norm with ideology (though you will need a mod to have beds with more than 2 spaces I believe).
