    Begonia sp. "Sarawak" is possibly the most iridescent of them all, while B. lichenora is a smaller and pretty similar species that crawls along the ground. As with many iridescent plants, they develop more iridescence with lower light levels. Also, they can be pretty hit-or-miss, especially the B. "Sarawak", but they're pretty easy-going if they manage to establish (most people propagate them ASAP to ensure they don't lose the entire plant in the event of a meltdown 😅

    • @BasiePlants

      I don’t think I have any of those two based on the photos I see on google 😅 But I was told to propagate U012 right away as well as sp Julau and I didn’t 😂 I am living on the edge 😅

    • @Serepin
      @Serepin 2 місяці тому

      Was it weird though? I think it shows that humans have an inherent need to be connected to nature. There has always been collectors of ‘rare’ things throughout history - it’s not surprising to me that we have coveted plants. So many want the shiny Charizard Pokémon card (millennial reference!).

    • @Gee-xb7rt
      @Gee-xb7rt 2 місяці тому

      @@Serepin I have long tried to talk people out of aroids, or maybe at least try different aroids, and hoyas are a close second. There are genus specific dealers for things like bromeliads and palms that sell what I think are really rare plants. Just an examples I have a Pitcairnia tabulaforma and Fosterellia spectabilis i got from Oscar Allen online, two bromeliads that I don't think people know exist because they think bromeliads are just the ones you see in grocery stores.

    My go to mix for these type of plants.
    All About ABG
    What it is made of?
    Charcoal
    Milled sphagnum moss
    Fir bark
    Tree fern fiber
    Peat moss

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  2 місяці тому +1

      I heard about it! Also saw some variations on the recipe. For some reason finding horticultural charcoal might as well be as trying to find gold. Tree fern, I won't even go into :D I could of course import all these ingredients but I decided to go for the mix I made in the video. We shall see how it performs. :D I can always repot/ start from cuttings 😂

    Love the new plants. I bought myself Biophitum sensitivum and Doriopteris cordifolia (Antennenfarn in German) from Jungle Leaves (a shop near Hamm in Germany), because they are super cute and stay small. Jungle leaves has gorgeous plants (the boys have studied botany, so know a liitle bit more than your average Joe Seller). Not sure if they ship outside of Germany though. Anyway, at least for ideas and advice on plant care I would recommend you visit the site. And have fun with your new treasures and good growing!
    P. S. Ok, I checked the site: they ship within the EU. May be you know somebody in Slovakia or Hungary, who can help you there.

    It's been about 20 years since I was deep in the African violet obsession. At the time, I also had (a lot of) streptocarpus, columnea, and nematanthus. I'm not sure why I turned my nose up at aeschynanthus at the time (I didn't have any), but I have seen the error of my previous ways. I'm now growing Mona Lisa, Black Pagoda, an unnamed variety, Thai Pink, and Bolero Bicolor. The Thai Pink has grown like a weed, but hasn't bloomed yet. I just cut her back and am rooting the cuttings for a fuller plant. Hopefully she'll eventually bloom as often as Mona Lisa does. You've mentioned before that you were deep into AV's and gesneriads at one point as well, so I'm guessing you already know about Lyndon Lyon and The Violet Barn. They are in the U.S., but ship internationally. I used to go to an AV show that they they would both attend and have booths to sell their plants. It was like seeing royalty. haha.

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  3 місяці тому +1

      Oh, I don't think I'd dare to order Gesneriads from the US. I don't think the shipping would go as well, especially as we have pretty good Gesneriad collective here :D I am in love with foliage on my Aeschynanthus 'Thai Pink' - I hope it blooms faster here! I don't love other Aeschynanthus as much. I also got some Nematanthus and Codonanthe :D

      Hi Miro, how do your plants make out being shipped in this heat? You said it is also hot where you live. I'm not even ordering right now . The mail is not that reliable and we are going to be having 117° coming in a few days. 🥵 You cracked me up whining about 2 plants with white flowers. Nothing is blooming at my house. 😒 Except for my crop of fungus gnats. 😡

      Hello i love gesneriads as well but they cost a lot i do grow two episcias and a couple violets and i do have some gloxinia as well but common ones i wish for more in the future but thing is that im running out of space ...and the collection grows every week😅 , in the past i had some kohlerias , and some achimenes and i used to have a huge huge streptocarpus ...i really loved them...getting a violet it leads you down a rabit hole from which im not sure you can get out too fast😂😂😂

    Hoya id. To me it seems definitely like the begonia rockii. Kind of easy to get begonia but still has some value to it. The foliage as self but the color of the leaves can vitiate very strongly by the light you use.

    Over here in the Philippines, there was a time that these were all the rage. They were all called labisia in general during sales... prices range around 350-1000 philippine pesos. I almost gave in and bought one but i was scared it wouldnt survive the summer. I have to ask some sellers what substrate they use.

    Awesome video! Your new secret plants are so beautiful! I love it when you stay from hoya ❤🎉 I don't have a ton of gesneriads (a few AV's and a couple streptocarpus) but I love them a lot! Edit to ask how do you spell the one that reminds you of the chinghungensis (it has gold in the name)? I LOVE it and want to try to find it! I'm pretty sure you didn't write the name on the screen for that one. ❤

    I have a petrocosmia. It's so annoying. It grows baby plants underneath the main plant and just makes it look ugly by pushing it out of shape. I water mine on top of the leaves because it has covered the pot to can't get water under it.

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  2 місяці тому +1

      I was just reading on them last night - aside from wanting to be actually cool (most species), they say that they prefer shallow, wide dishes (some grow them in a plate) and very coarse mix. They apparently don't require that much water and prefer higher ambient humidity anyways. I will try some things out and keep you updated :)

    • @paganqueen1
      @paganqueen1 2 місяці тому

      @@BasiePlants Mine is growing in a deep pot in just compost. It's been growing like that for years now. I've just ripped all the baby plants off from underneath and taken most of the top growth off so its gone from 8 inch diameter to 3 inches. I was just so fed up with it. It was close to getting the garden treatment. When I am sick of a plant I put it outside under a shelter to fend for itself. Sometimes they live and sometimes they die. The latest was a string of hearts plant. I will see if it survives the winter. The one before that was an Anthurium that had scale insect that I couldn't get rid of so I took a small piece and propped it, the rest went in the garden. It didn't survive the winter.

      It has sap though. It makes white sap. It is most likely a weird nicholsoniae type. Nathalie Simonsson grew it in warm temperature and lower light and it started to make much larger leaves that more resemble nicholsoniae.
