    Support for the abolition of slavery in Europe's colonies had first emerged in Britain. In 1814, the Netherlands signed an international agreement to stop the slave trade. On 1 July 1863, slavery itself was officially abolished in the main Dutch slave colony of Surinam.

      Look for Karl Watson videos, they are much better. You can NOT do good video with GoPro. For good video you need to get some SONY, Canon or Nikon (not cheap ones. The good ones cost more than $2000)what has good microphone with deadcat on it. Gabriels wind noise is terrible.

      Yes, a suppressed situation and news story was back in 2015, they had a referendum and 66% percent voted No, no to continue with the current arrangement with the Netherlands. Bonaire citizens are asking to finally have independence, or at least become something just like what their neighbours Curaçao and Aruba have achieved. In 2019, there was also low voting turnout for elections, as this was a boycott by Bonaire citizens because they feel it is not the constitutional arrangement they like.

    Bonaire looks like a cross of Aruba and Curacao. Architecturally speaking of course. All 3 islands have their unique charm and features! So like Curacao, Bonaire has German outlets and switches(I love those), but also uses USA sockets. Only USA dollars almost like Aruba, and the houses in the smaller town of Rincon look more like Aruba houses. The main town has a more Dutch look but subdued in that the buildings are not as Dutch FANCY with less decor but the shapes and outlines are more Dutch like. THE WINDOWS and DOORS!! This place has more of the natural or brown color wood windows and shutters I LOVE, unlike in Curacao where they paint alot of it WHITE. I want to see more video of the main town to get a better perspective but from the google images that is what I have so far!. Prices are about the same as Curacao so economical travel destination? I would hope lol!

    • @Peschok
      @Peschok 5 років тому +2

      pianokeyjoe I can help you with this I live on bonaire for years, Bonaire is a big mix of cultures, more expensive than Curacao less than Aruba, we are I the middle a big population from Netherlands and Latin America, a lot of Chinese restaurants and supermarket also Dutch supermarket with better quality, quiet, safe, clean, pets friendly (donkeys are Kings) way more ecological, not stress life, basically same the AC island but big more organice, a lot of rules more coming because of the Dutch government, about architecture most of the houses are yellow or beige, in some part you can found blue, pink, purple, orange, the style of the houses is almost the same you see at the first video with some exception Belnem now have another perspective more minimalist and modern, Republik into the hills few Spain and international concept of mansions, than Buena vista, Sabadeco more mansions with tropical lines, the most higher building have 4 plants at the moment any mall well a real mall like Aruba or Curacao.. I can say Bonaire is under construction with a lot expectations beautifull island great place for live

    • @pianokeyjoe
      @pianokeyjoe 5 років тому

      @@Peschok Thankyou! I like architecture so this info helps alot! I tend to compare architecture from other countries and regions of the planet against my most favorite architecture from my own island of Puerto Rico. I hope to visit ABC some day soon if God allows. I think I will love it very much. It is funny Bonaire has more people and it looks to be a smaller island than Curacao from the map but I did see klein Bonaire too so that may explain the more people. As long as Dutch government is a free government, it should, I say should lol! be ok. Now electrical sockets? German AND American? Or just one or the other?

    • @Peschok
      @Peschok 5 років тому +2

      pianokeyjoe hablemos en español, yo soy dominicana y puedo decir que la arquitectura en las demás Antillas es totalmente diferente en comparación con las nuestras, nosotros tenemos más arraigo colonial, sobre el la población de la 3 islas bonaire es la menos poblada la de mayor población es y tamaño es Curacao, Aruba es una isla mucho más pequeña que Bonaire pero 10 veces más poblada, a esto le súmanos que la única Isla de la ABC que es parte del reino holandés es Bonaire en conjunto con San Eustacio y Saba forman Dutch Caribbean, Curazao , Aruba y San Martín siguen siendo miembros independientes del Reino holandés, el gobierno ahora mismo es holandés tienen un parlamento o algo así bonariano con personas locales pero el de la decisión final es holanda, corrupción poca pero existe, alemanes si puedes encontrar personas de rods Europa y latino America, muchos estado unidenses quienes pueden vivir en la isla por un periodo de un año sin problema muchos turistas canadienses y la visita de muchos cruceros

    • @Peschok
      @Peschok 5 років тому +1

      pianokeyjoe te encantará visitar la isla, no hay ríos como en PR pero las playas son hermosas y puedes encontrar un flamenco en cualquier playa, btw Klein Bonaire está deshabitada no se permite vivir ni construir en la pequeña isla, tanto Curazao como Aruba tienen su isla Klein Curazao y Klein Aruba ( aquí si hay construcciones un parque acuático si no me equivoco)

    • @pianokeyjoe
      @pianokeyjoe 5 років тому

      @@Peschok Ah Ninoska! Mucho gusto! Ahora entiendo un poco mas lol! Que bien. Otra pregunta me imagino, ya esta contestada: Comida criolla en ABC? Para mi el arroz con habichuelas rojas,lechon(pernil)frito/asado y flan/biscocho de tres leches es mi favorito entre otras comidas. Me imagino ABC tienen sus variedades de comidas locales que tambien me gustaria pero ya tu sabe.. Comida como la criolla, no hay ninguna! En cuanto a Alemanes, me referia a las tomacorrientes(power sockets). En Curacao son 220V 50Z Europeos estilo Aleman. Me gusta coleccionar aparatos electricos de diversos paises so eso es algo que siempre voy en busca cuando visito lugares estranjeros. Hasta en Puerto Rico se encuentran tomacorrientes e interruptores hechos en Colombia, Costa Rica e Italia. Soy unico lo se pero me gusta lo que me gusta lol! Gracias por sus respuestas otra ves!

      Bonaire doesn't have proper beaches so it's not ideal for a beach holiday. It's because the reef is really close to the shore (but that makes it a haven for divers, drivers of those pick-ups parked next to the roads have actually gone diving).

      Bonaire is not a country. It’s a dutch municipality

    • @alexsdb9712

      Exactly, misleading video headline just for shock value and possibly clicks. Unfortunately there are also articles or blog write-ups online about people sharing their experiences of Bonaire, and they say something like "I feel like I'm not in Europe" or "I can't believe I'm in the Netherlands - it doesn't look like it!" 😂
      The info is out there and not a secret. One of its labels is "special municipality" but that is said to be almost like what Guam is with the USA. It's not a district, region or state/province of the Netherlands, therefore Bonaire cannot be called as Netherlands or "I'm visiting the Netherlands". And another strong factor: Bonaire has its own culture, customs and language - the Papiamentu one, which is a Latin culture. And going by the statistics, the second-most spoken language after Papiamento is Spanish, not Dutch. And third, the citizens of Bonaire cannot just waltz into the Netherlands and move there permanently as citizens. The same goes for the fellow ABC countries, Aruba and Curaçao. The citizens of those nations still have to go through a process to become citizens or residents in the Netherlands, and it works that way for Dutch people as well regarding the countries of the former Netherlands Antillies. Especially for Aruba and Curaçao as those two are official country status and Bonaire is not quite one.
