Support for the abolition of slavery in Europe's colonies had first emerged in Britain. In 1814, the Netherlands signed an international agreement to stop the slave trade. On 1 July 1863, slavery itself was officially abolished in the main Dutch slave colony of Surinam.
Bonaire is underrated..... Aruba and Curacao gets more attention, but this little island is a little gem. Nice video :) Happy travels & enjoy those amazing beaches.
Look for Karl Watson videos, they are much better. You can NOT do good video with GoPro. For good video you need to get some SONY, Canon or Nikon (not cheap ones. The good ones cost more than $2000)what has good microphone with deadcat on it. Gabriels wind noise is terrible.
If you do happen to go to the Dominican Republic maybe you could consider going to the Turks and Caicos as well. Gabriel, re WIND NOISE. I have a Yi Lite, similar to GoPro. I use flat foam rubber/plastic to cover the microphone holes. It's held in place with rubber bands. Works a treat. 😎♥️🇭🇲
Gabriel, it would be nice if you made a video pointing the differences between the ABC islands, in terms of vibe, beaches, landscape, prices, transport, distances, etc... thanks for the videos, keep up the great work
Yeah I thought about doing that as well. I'll see if I get the chance, problem is I always have more videos to work on. Now I have a bunch of editing from my new location, got to get back to work.
Yes, a suppressed situation and news story was back in 2015, they had a referendum and 66% percent voted No, no to continue with the current arrangement with the Netherlands. Bonaire citizens are asking to finally have independence, or at least become something just like what their neighbours Curaçao and Aruba have achieved. In 2019, there was also low voting turnout for elections, as this was a boycott by Bonaire citizens because they feel it is not the constitutional arrangement they like.
Bonaire looks like a cross of Aruba and Curacao. Architecturally speaking of course. All 3 islands have their unique charm and features! So like Curacao, Bonaire has German outlets and switches(I love those), but also uses USA sockets. Only USA dollars almost like Aruba, and the houses in the smaller town of Rincon look more like Aruba houses. The main town has a more Dutch look but subdued in that the buildings are not as Dutch FANCY with less decor but the shapes and outlines are more Dutch like. THE WINDOWS and DOORS!! This place has more of the natural or brown color wood windows and shutters I LOVE, unlike in Curacao where they paint alot of it WHITE. I want to see more video of the main town to get a better perspective but from the google images that is what I have so far!. Prices are about the same as Curacao so economical travel destination? Bonaire doesn't have proper beaches so it's not ideal for a beach holiday. It's because the reef is really close to the shore (but that makes it a haven for divers, drivers of those pick-ups parked next to the roads have actually gone diving).
Gabe. Ffs! Google something on how to make a wind muffler out of a piece of kitchen sponge and an elastic band for around a dollar. Keep rolling them vids. H.
The problem is that with a Gopro there are three microphones and they are underneath the cage that goes around the camera, so that wouldn't work. Unfortunately there are also articles or blog write-ups online about people sharing their experiences of Bonaire, and they say something like "I feel like I'm not in Europe" or "I can't believe I'm in the Netherlands - it doesn't look like it!" 😂 The info is out there and not a secret. One of its labels is "special municipality" but that is said to be almost like what Guam is with the USA. It's not a district, region or state/province of the Netherlands, therefore Bonaire cannot be called as Netherlands or "I'm visiting the Netherlands". And another strong factor: Bonaire has its own culture, customs and language - the Papiamentu one, which is a Latin culture. And going by the statistics, the second-most spoken language after Papiamento is Spanish, not Dutch. And third, the citizens of Bonaire cannot just waltz into the Netherlands and move there permanently as citizens. The same goes for the fellow ABC countries, Aruba and Curaçao. The citizens of those nations still have to go through a process to become citizens or residents in the Netherlands, and it works that way for Dutch people as well regarding the countries of the former Netherlands Antillies. Especially for Aruba and Curaçao as those two are official country status and Bonaire is not quite one.
