Mid Handicap Golfer Mark Spriggs got custom fitted for PING I210 irons 4 years ago! His handicap has improved from 15 - 11 handicap!
Will Mark need new irons? Will Marks specs have changed? Should Mark buy lower handicap golf clubs? PING I59? Could MID HANDICAPPERS golf clubs be re fitted to help him improve further?

Welcome to Gary Martin Golf, I am a PGA Professional based at Huddersfield Golf Club, West Yorkshire. I started my UA-cam channel during lockdown whilst being Furloughed and unable to work.

Interesting. When I've gotten a fitting, I listen and do what the fitter tells me to do. I only speak when I'm asked a question. I treat it like a lesson. It's worked out pretty well.
Honesty is the best policy and Ping deserve their reputation. Well done.

Sprigsy saved himself a few bob there Gaz. ;-) Encouraging to see there was no hard sell from the guys at Ping, I guess it also demonstrates that they believe in the longevity of their own product.
Yes. I think Ping are smart, they take pride in being the very best in customer service in all area’s, and pros like myself and ping players that’s encountered their service can’t speak highly enough of them.
I think you get more benefit from a fit if you can consistently control the head of the clubs you currently own.
The guys at Ping Gainsborough are Top draw and excellent with communicating with you.

Mark is still the best mid handicap golfer ive ever seen, and i always like watching his club tests.

Mark seems like a nice guy but he is the epitome of the golfer with all the gear and no idea!!! The fitter didn't know where to look when he was blabbering about his wrist angles & dodging the i59 question was a masterclass.
Brilliant video, fair play to the fitter and Ping, would of been easy to push Mark into buying a new set for no real improvement, really impressed 👏👏👍
I agree. This isn’t a one off too, I’ve heard of many people go for new sets, and ended up going home with a club tweak.
Was so good to watch a fitting where a player don't hit a perfect shot everytime. It's what puts me off getting a fitting knowing I'll miss hit a few balls but gives me confidence to go for one now
That is the hardest part, getting over being self conscious about your swing. Good fitters aren't there to criticize, but to help you get the most out of the swing you have. If you are taking lessons to change, let them know, they can take that into account as well. I recently had a driver fitting, and the fitter found my current driver with a different shaft rocked everything else we tried and gave me 40 yards with a straighter shot.

Good vid imo he will gain distance from lowering the loft he was probably more tired after hitting a lot golf balls. causing a drop off on the numbers but won’t be significant difference all the best for mark and getting to scratch

Marks previous fitting 4yrs ago was good then, still good now- albeit just needed a tweak here and there which was inclusive and all within the nominal price of a Ping fitting.

X stiff considered to help with clubface control. Definitely something I’ll be testing with a high handicapper in an experimental video

Great video Gaz. Really interesting to see the X stiff part of the video. Great to see a fitter go for a different shaft that Mark would never really try on his own accord. And see results. 👍🏻
I enjoyed that part too. I am definitely going to experiment when I high handicapper, using an X vs Regular to see if it helps them control the club face more.

Once he said i210’s at the start I knew they would stay in the bag. One of the best irons ever made and any handicap can play ‘em.
Great video, I've only ever got tested for a sand wedge but this video makes me want to get tested for the whole set. Still playing TM burner irons and a mix of wedges.

Gary, Interesting how Mark is asking if the 210s are not "good enough" when there are several tour pros using them. Unless he is stripping it out of the middle EVERY time 59s are much smaller and much thinner sole.
Your average golfer wouldn’t be aware of that. I knew the answer, but the point of the video is to raise awareness. Even the tour pros don’t require blades, never mind mid handicap golfers. Thanks bud
Great fitting video. That said, not sure why he’d think he was ready to upgrade from the i210. It’s not like it’s a hollow body game improvement/distance iron, it’s a widely used iron on tour.
If you know a lot about tec, you would know this, however, so many mid handicappers think they need a blade once they start sniffing around single figures.
In the end, I know he was a little disappointed he didn't go home with new irons. The PIng fitter did a great job.

It's a shame the fitter didn't allow Mark to try the i59, so then he could eradicate that from his mind.
That thought is always going to be there until he does. !!
I think the i210 is a nicer iron that the i230, the backplate on the i230 looks a bad fit with a large gap.

Lol. I think the i210 can get you very low. He was striking them really well on the course. I don’t think he needs them anyway 😃
Can’t remember the fitters name but this is same guy who fitted me last summer, really impressed,
I went from Ping I E1 irons to G30’s and dropped 5 shots on my handicap to a 5!

That would be great to get fitted for some clubs. Although I’m hitting some 2022 Taylormade Stealths that I bought used with senior shafts which I need now . I haven’t golfed much in the past 8 years and I’m hitting these hybrids and irons better than I’ve ever hit a club…is it the clubs or the change in my older self swing I don’t know…maybe I’ll strike it rich and get fitted for my next set of clubs….

This guy hits his 7i about as far as I do but I would never consider an X Stiff shaft. Wow. I play Regular R300.
Given Ping's MOI claims for the i59 (same as i230), I would have tried the i59 with Modus X as well... but agree that Mark made the "smart" choice for at least another season, and can spend the savings on Driver...
It might say that in the script, but I’m sure a slightly bigger profile head (i230,210) inspires a bit more confidence. This is such a mental game. Hahah, he might do that 😅
@@garymartingolf yeah, I think the Ping fitter might have recommended it if Mark's strike was more consistent at the outset
Interesting that gaz , just shows your clubs can help but at the end of the day no club is going to stop an incorrect impact condition , so get that right first

My issue with a fitting is the changes in swing over time. I play off 11 and my swing never replicates the game before, always subtle inconsistencies. I always have gone for clubs that suit my eye aswell as my swing at the moment of testing on a range without proper “fitting”.
Perhaps a fitting would be beneficial, I’m confused, this game confuses me, this game frustrates me, I’m very confused & frustrated, however, I make a dam good cup of tea ☕️ 😊

Loved this video , learnt so much . I got fitted in October for Miz 923 HM with +2 lie , I’m still working on my swing after a 14 yr absence so watching this video has taught me that my lofts can be altered. Can my lie be altered too ?
yes and it is a much easier thing to do. it wont alter the club in any other way than the lie.
How forgiving are Mark's current clubs? Has he tried a more forgiving set or a different shaft?
He did in his 2018 club fitting on James Robinson’s channel, and it was concluded that this profile club was the best for numerous reasons. Distance back to front, ball flight trajectory, feel.
@@garymartingolf would be interested to see if a more forgiving iron than he currently has would improve his consistency now he's improved. Seems his thought process was a better players iron would have pushed him to the next level, but maybe he needs more forgiveness?

I really find the “iron model is holding my development back” argument very strange. You don’t have to change your irons just because you’re approaching low handicap territory.
Getting a i59 wouldn’t magically make anyone in the 11-15 range a single figure handicapper. It will just penalise you more.
The i210 are great irons, if they’re good enough for Hovland I doubt the would ever hinder an average joes development.
Good on the fitter not selling something that won’t improve your game.
Being a golf coach, I knew the answer, but it’s a question so many mid handicappers have, and therefore I wanted to softly share the message through an experimental video.

Does sprigsy actually warm up before playing? Hitting 30-40 balls before going out would benefit him quite a lot.

The machine they use calculates both loft and lie, so they’re able to change lie whilst controlling loft. Thanks

I don’t know actually. Do they not have fitting centres in America? I do need to visit and explore the world of golf in America more, I’m not so familiar.
