Always wondered where that was on my 2015 impala LT. Now I know, if it should every malfunction. I didn't consider that it would affect the a/c as well. Good information
Coincidentally I go out to my car, that same part is hanging and my temp is -40. You just may have saved my life, now I have to figure out how to get to it since my bumper is not the original
Thank you for this video! I would love to know your opinion on a question I have regarding my 2012 Chevy Impala. The body shop I ended up going to, wish I had seen this video first ;) they repaired the ambient temp sensor but noted also I may have a faulty Temperature Control Head. As of today, 1/2/24, my windows, front/rear/sides all fog up if the temperature falls below 32° and when I try to run the defrost using the A/C button, it flashes and doesn’t turn on. Above 32° the A/C button will come on and allow for windows to defrost. Before having them do the work, the inside of my car windows were actually getting frosted over almost like I needed to scrape the inside of my windows. And it wouldn’t defrost and same thing happened where the A/C button wouldn’t work. So, although I don’t have any frost to scrape on the inside of my windows anymore, they are still fogging up if lower than 32° outside. I don’t know much about the temperature control head and its function. Wanted to know if you had anything to offer on this. Thanks so much!
The guys that wrapped my car either broken the sensor or didn’t put it back in since I’ve been getting the same message and hot air unless on “Lo” 🤦🏾♂️ going to try this during the weekend. Glad to know I don’t have to remove the bumper. Thanks
For those that can't read the comment, including me. Translation: Thank you from Yemen. I have benefited from the video. Thank you for the comment. Glad I could be of help.
I can't say for sure, but it is possible. The clutch is controlled by the AC compressor clutch relay which has an input from the engine controls ignition relay. They receive an output from the ECM which receives data from the HVAC module for feedback. I would think there is a sensor that is malfunctioning that is causing the cycling. The following sensors are monitored by the HVAC module: Ambient air temperature sensor Lower left air temperature sensor Lower right air temperature sensor Upper left air temperature sensor Upper right air temperature sensor Windshield temperature and inside moisture sensor Ambient light/sunload sensor Hope that was helpful.
Did this to my 2017 Camaro SS, almost a week ago, still have lines where the temperature should be reading. Installed new sensor. Nothing. Any suggestions?
Did you try disconnecting the battery yet? I'd disconnect the negative side for about 5 minutes then reconnect it. That should reset the system and give it a reboot.
Ugh--That moment when you turned the power back on after part replacement and it still showed -40. Everyone who has worked on cars knows that moment of disappointment and futility when you've done what you know just has to fix it and it still doesn't work! Glad to see it ultimately resolved.
Agreed...what an awful feeling. I guess that is why they say patience is a virtue. I was sure happy when it did finally start to recover. Thanks for the comment.
Same thing happened to me Tuesday Dec 7th 2021 something hit the driver's side front finder 2018 impala the ambient temperature went to -40 .thanks for the video
@@dennisshaw4189 unfortunately no. Mine was knocked off by hitting an animal. It is simply plugged into the location noted in the video. It is a simple removal.
I had my bumper replaced (‘15 impala ls) and that piece is hanging but u never bothered to investigate. Coincidentally my AC is out and I’ve had the compressor and radiator (dented) changed. I’ve been looking for a video on how to replace the AC suction hose, but I would love for this to be my only issue
@@lesterwaller8720 it should be in the same location then. It just clips into a small hole. It is located in front of the radiator support on the driver's side.
That is strange. The reason it is giving the -40 is because it "sees" an open condition in the circuit. If the sensor has been replaced there could only be another open somewhere. Either there is a broken wire in the circuit or the sensor is bad or not fully seated. I hope this helps for your Cruze. I have to assume they are similar.
is this will fix my impala 2014 ltz ac ? it works fine but when i stop for 2 min it turns the compressor off with hot air (i changed the compressor with new one same problem i will change the air filter tmmr imma try but if u know ehat is the problem,u will help me a lot, thanks .
Unfortunately it is difficult to determine what may cause your specific issue. If you have an outside temperature indication on your center entertainment/multifunction screen, verify that it is reporting correctly. This issue I am correcting is specific to that type of indication with loss of AC. Some of the items that may cause your indicated issue include: Cooling fans are not operational during idle , blocked or dirty condenser fins causing poor heat transfer or low refrigerant level. I wish you luck on your problem.
Had same issue on a 2012 equinox, yes you have to drive at 45-55MPH for 10 or so minutes continuously after replacing the sensor to recalibrate it. My issue though..... the cars computer isn't holding the info so it continually resets itself. When it does this AC will not work until I have driven for a bit and got the sensor to read above 32 degrees, and then the air will kick in. The Car literally says hey it's -26 out, you don't need air you need heat. Still haven't found a solution
I would tend to think there may be a loose wire or a poor connection at the connector. If it does not sees the sensor it will give the lowest reading. It is perhaps not seeing it, then makes the connection after the unit warms. Possibly caused by the expansion from heat soak.
Thank you for recognizing those types of safety issues. I always use a jack when I am under the vehicle working. The beginning of the video I am kneeling at the front of the vehicle with my camera held out. You can see at timestamp 3:16 I have placed a jack stand to ensure vehicle security prior to actually working under it. Again, thank you for the reminder to everyone about the importance of being safe while working as a DIYer.
Bro are you fuckin serious, i dealt with not having ac since i got my car, my temp been reading -40 degrees this entire time, its been 4 years WTF. Never did it occur to me that it would affect my AC, the temp would fix itself every now and then, but not forever, maybe just for a couple mins

Firestone just told me $298 to fix this issue. Ha....headed to auto zone in a few minutes. Ty for the vid and your service
Thank you so much took it to the mechanic they told me something else was wrong watch your video did it myself now mines working thanks alot

Thanks bro I have a 14 Buick LaCrosse same issue..mine showed nothing..that is why my AC worked, but I had to replace the sensor and wires

Can the ambient air temp sensor cause the compressor clutch to cycle on/off?
I can't say for sure, but it is possible.

You have to drive it to reset after u change it
It have to be reprogram it once replace!!
Yes. I state that near the end of the video. I was worried I did it wrong until I drove it.
Nothing needs to be programed. Just drive the vehicle.
I changed my Sensor, but now my temperature is showing on plus side like every time it is showing 60 degrees. before it was on negative side.
Thanks, I think that is what is wrong with my wife's 2016 Impala LTZ

All I did was to remove the fog light cover on the driver and there it was. 5 minutes job.
Okay so after that did your hair start working ?
Hom mentions temporary sensor are on impala 14 fan
how is it now? I mean, is it still working fine?
It's working fine. No issues since.
You should put a Fix pad jack for safety.

Where is the sensor at ??
At the back of the engine at the top. The video shows it behind the air intake throttle plate.
Mine is reading --- 🤧
Good news
Damn bro...32 seconds in and I have the same issue...-40 degrees
That is indicative of the sensor failure. It should be a quick cheap repair for you. Good luck.
All you showed was the sensor, you didn't show anything
I'm sorry you didn't find it helpful. What was it you wanted to see?
I want to see the wire harness for the ambient Air temperature sensor.
I got the car situated though, it had a broken wire
I hope you ate the racoon😊🥳🥳🤣🤣🤣
Not on a bet! :)
A/C off due to high engine temp
That was not the issue with my experience. That may happen, but I could not say for sure.
WTH ? How about showing how to get to it ????😂
