I recently had work done to my truck. They removed the front grill and bumper. After I got the truck back now It has a CEL and when I turn on the AC it stalls. I'm gonna check if they put it back wrong or if the actual sensor is bad. I feel like they didn't connect it right. Thanks for the video.
So I have a 2018 gmc canyon, and I’ve already replaced the etc and the thermostat…my ac only blows warm air even when I have it cranked to the coldest, and as soon as I turn the truck on the radiator fan turns on and keeps going even after I turn the truck off for a good 5 minutes or so…any chance these may be symptoms of bad ambient sensor
Whenever it rains, my car warns me about icy conditions and thinks it's negative 45 degrees outside and blasts heat. When the rain stops and everything dries up, it goes back to normal.
@NikhilAnthonyLobo I took it to a shop and they found that I was missing my ambient air temperature sensor entirely, someone severed the connecting wires. I will purchase a new sensor and wiring harness and pay a technician to assemble it when I have some spare time and money. For now, it's only an inconvenience when it rains. I put electrical tape over the exposed wires so they won't get wet. We'll see if that helps, it hasn't rained yet for me to test the theory.
Ambient Air Temperature sensor ( AAT ) should be replaced every 7 - 10 years in order for your automatic climate control system to remain efficient. Sensor degradation become significant by that time. I have observed that in many car models, the position of the AAT sensor is not the optimally best ( at least for hot weather countries ). If your AAT sensor has been installed in the lower front of the condenser, consider having the wires extended by an auto electrician so that you can install it inside your front bumper. There's always space inside the front bumper. It doesn't need to be fixed by locks. You can use a piece of sticking tape to prevent it from rolling and moving about as the car drives about. Another prudent thing is to have the extended wires long enough for you to able to periodically bring out the AAT sensor for inspection and cleaning ( wipe it with a wet towel ). By this preventative maintenance action, your AAT sensor will be able to maintain its rapid responsiveness to slight variations in the outside air. AAT sensor should not be at a location where heat radiating from the condenser and radiator , or by convection transmission, could influence the accuracy of its operations. Also, AAT sensor must be shielded from light sources ( sunlight or lights from oncoming vehicles which refract off the front grille or reflect from the street surfaces to impact it ). Lastly, fast moving air induce by the radiator condenser fans should go over the AAT sensor to make it feel as if the outside air is colder than it actually is. I live in tropical West Africa. I took the steps enumerated above and the result has made the performance of the climate control system of a 2002 model car become better than the OEM. Within 30 seconds of starting the car parked in direct sunshine for several hours, the cabin temperature becomes bearable and by one minute, the interior of the car becomes cood for rear seat passengers to feel comfortable. Note, it is just cooling down the cabin air for which car air conditioning system has advanced to the modern type called automatic climate control. The rapidity of controlling the humidity of the cabin air is what actually makes it comfortable.
I’ve had a diagnostic done came on my Volvo S40 Lux 57 Plate. Came back ambient sensor code P0070 my engine light came on and I noticed that my rev counter was just touching 1 would in idle mode!, also Temp was showing -3would this be a symptom?

@@HVAC_Mechanic I don't have any check engine codes, but my problem is that it takes off really slow almost stalling then it take off after 30 seconds of flooring the pedal to the floor, could it be this temp sensor?
My 2014 jeep patriot is doing where the lightening bolt comes on, and traction icon and looses power. Took it and got it hooked up and threw back the ambient air temperature sensor. Will that fix it? The air works fine.
If the traction control system has shut down, there should be other codes that point to the issue. I haven't seen a bad ambient air temp sensor cause those issues.
My temp gauge and ambient guage randomly stopped working when I changed my cluster bulbs to LED. I've driven the car no overheating and heat works fine...what could it be? CTS? Or ambient sensor?
It needs to be diagnosed, but if it stopped working after replacing the bulbs, I would check for anything that may have become unplugged. It also could be a bad sensor, but they will need to be tested to know if one is bad.
Yes, basically, if it's bad, they just need to be replaced. The hard part is if they are located in a hard-to-get-to-spot and getting the correct replacement.
I have a 2019 Malibu and having issues with AC sometimes it doesn't work like just a fan but no cold air and sometimes I see a msg it says engine power reduced and the temperature is -40 and icy slippery road drive with care when the temperature is 20 digress Celsius ( Canada ) !!! does it mean the outside temperature sensor is bad ? thanks
Will a bad sensor make the Ignition shut down and come back on when it cools off .I'm reading 80⁰ + on hot days, then engine shutdown and temp reading is over 120⁰ to 130⁰ . Hello from the high desert of Phelan California and yes its still hot 🔥 days. Engine temperature is normal.
@tazzy2778 Good morning. I am not sure if it's fixed, but I found a video that said to switch the engine shutdown relay with the A/C one for a test. This seems to have worked out. Sunday was 80⁰ and I didn't have any problems 🙃 on that test drive . I will try next year when it gets hot 🔥 🥵. Drive them until the wheels fall off.
Great video. Thanks! Once I replace the sensor, is there any calibration need to be done? 2017 accord 2.4L And should I disconnect the battery before starting?
I don't think you need to disconnect your battery before taking out one AAT sensor and fixing another one ( replacement). I have personally extended the wiring to my AAT sensor by one metre. I did that so that I could easily bring it out for cleaning. Periodically, I will bring out the AAT sensor, disconnect it from its plug, and thoroughly clean it with a cloth previously dipped in a cleaning solution like dishwasher soap. If you are in the tropics or live in a hot region, then periodically cleaning your AAT sensor will ensure reliability of cabin blower motor speed. The AAT sensor is the main controller of your cabin air blower motor when your climate control system is set in automatic mode. If suddenly you realise that the blower speed has dropped inexplicably, change the setting to manual mode and later check and clean your AAT sensor. You can easily test whether the sensor is still working or not. Set your multimeter to resistance measuring. Apply the leads to the sensor pins. Observe the resistance readings varying with ambient air temperature changes. If no changes occur, it means the sensor may be faulty. Being able to pull out your AAT sensor easily is a necessary DIY because the sensor face could easily get fouled by dirt or mud. Once, I pulled out my AAT sensor and observed that cobwebs that had arrested dirt were on it.
My outside temperature is reading above 145- 160 degrees F. I Changed the sensor, it's new. I think it might be wired incorrectly. (I change a 24 pin "engine to I/P Harness Connector) and when I was reinstalling the leads I mixed up several wires. I'm Looking at All Data trying to trace the wiring. There were 2 Tan wires for GMLAN Serial Data Bus. the (+) has a black line (but it was faded). also, there were 3 purple wires that I got mixed up on. 2 of them are larger gauge, so I was not sure when i reinstalled the wires into the connector. however, I just Learned one of the larger gauge purple wires is Low Reference & the other is TCC Brake switch. (I don't know exactly what TCC Brake Switch is, but it sound important). i think i might have found my problem. My HVAC control Unit is probably reading TCC brake Switch voltage and translating it as 165 Degrees) i haven't had any brakeing problems, but I'm going to have to figure this one out.
The ambient temperature sensor for my Honda 2006 odyssey is missing along with the wiring. How do I go about finding one and replacing it?
Do you have to reset the ambient air temperature sensor after installation?

Is it OK not to replace temp sensor?
It depends on the vehicle's computer. Usually, a bad Ambient Air Temp Sensor only affects the HVAC, but it can vary.
