Thanks Huw, I'm really loving these chestnut spirt stains and will try all of the colours in the sample pack on a similar size bowl just as a comparison. 👍😁
Thanks Bill! Best advice I can give with lacquer is really light coats (Dust coats, if you will) for the first 2-3 coats, with this product I have to leave around 30 mins between coats. 5-8 coats should be good to achieve a high shine effect. Then let it harden for a few days, the longer the better, before a session with the Yorkshire Grit. Hope that helps mate.😁👍
Thanks Luie, I'm really enjoying experimenting with these stains and this one was due to have a black band on the rim but the purple against the pale sycamore just screamed to be left natural.👍😁
Hiya Windy, Yorkshire Grit is an abrasive paste. It basically allows you to sand from grits 240 upwards without having the atmosphere around you full of dust. It can be used on flat work as well as woodturnings and I also use it as a 'cutting paste' on my lacquer pieces...brings a really high shine! 👍😁
Thanks Lelia, Sycamore is a beautiful wood to work with, turns well and often has different colours in the same piece. That particular lacquer has no food safe certification but as it's only for experimenting with these spirit stains, it will remain a decorative piece.😁👍
Love the contrast between the sycamore and the purple. Very nice!
Thank you Dennis!! I’m really bowled over by the finished product!!! 👍😁

What is Yorkshire grit, and what does it do?

interesting. I like the outside of the bowl. Is it food safe after the lacquer finish on the inside?
