I’ve had two of these cars Peogeut 107 and two C1’s. They’re cheap to buy, very cheap to run and service. I drive my 107 to Türkiye and as we got to passed Istanbul we hit a serious snow blizzard and despite having Michelin snow tires we had three skidding events the last one we did 1080deg spin landing on a pile of snow in the central reservation. The police car with snow chains came round and took us to the nearest hotel. The following day we went to pick our little 107 which didn’t have a scratch and started straight away and allowed us to finish our journey to Antalya. The handling is like a go kart on dry roads but be aware in very wet conditions as the back end has a habit of over steering like the old 205 used to - great fun in the dry and damp but in snowy conditions not a the safest car unless you have snow chains - the car never broke down. I used Denso iridium plugs and also cleaned the VVT filter at the back of the block which needs to be kept very clean to avoid variable valve tapping sounds. Best to use original OEM spec Bosch brake pads and discs as well as OEM Purflux oil filters which have better filtration capabilities change 5/30 Synthetic oil every 5000miles and the engine will do over 300k miles no problems.
Hi, great to hear your adventures ! They are brilliant little cars, i agree about driving in the wet though, they do like a slide, ask me how i know 😉👍👍
I bought a Citroen C1 for my daughter and it was a hugely reliable car. She had it 4 years and nothing went wrong. I used to service it every 6 months for about £25 - £30, plus bought an exhaust and 4 tyres during that time. Superb first car :-)
Really enjoyed video. Ramps are good for oil change. Axle stands would make the front discs and pads easier to change as you can turn the steering wheel and get better access. No need for you as you know what you are doing, but for the starters good to be able to see what your doing. The throttle body and maf sensor and the other sensor good idea 💡
Takes me back to my early motoring days of the 60s / 70s when you either learnt to be a mechanic or walked lol, my favourite was my Triumph herald with the one piece front end that once lifted you could do a full service sat on the front wheel, great tutorial for first time owners who want to do hands on or simply don't have garage rate finances, well done to you sir great vid.
Hi mate thanks so much ! Glad you liked it ! Yea the herald was an easy car to work on, Ive has 2 spitfires in the past with the same setup, superb cars 👍👍👍
thank you for this, yep, your reminder to pump the brakes with the reservoir lid off has just stopped me making your fathers mistake. Thank you ! I also love your electronic back ground music, its really relaxing :)
Excellent informative video. You have a great way of putting things across without it sounding intimidating or beyond the reach of someone wanting to have a go at home. Well done 👍
A nice full service. I would have done the gear box oil while at it, and maybe changed the water pump as they are known problem on these, if it’s the original. That may be the cause for the noise you mentioned but on mine it was a grinding where the bearing went. Reminds me why Ive got one of three as they are amazing cars and simple to maintain.
Hi thanks for the nice comment ! Yes the gearbox oil is on my list as when its cold it is a bit notchy, i did spin the waterpump when i had the belt off and it felt ok, fingers crossed on that one, they are superb as you say, all the best MEC 👍👍👍
I have to admit, the more im seeing about this car the more i think it will suit me. Also many years ago i forgot to tighten wheelnuts up after fitting driveshafts on my nissan stanza lucky for me i was just moving it a bit before i remembered 😂
Thank chuff it's the weekend. Beer and Mec-Tec car tinkering. Wouldn't the best service be "a gallon and a match" :) Fair play though, it looks nice and easy to service
I had to weld my 2005 c1 at the rear, inner sills, both sides. They use thicker steel around the rear axle mounts, but it doesn't extend right out to the sill. Only had to weld narrow, long rectangular patches. I've several coats of wax oyl on it now.
I'm guessing the new oil looks slightly dirty because it was overdue an oil change, I do my Aygo every 6,000 miles and the new oil is always crystal clear and quite difficult to see on the dipstick for the first few hundred miles
Recently had to change the drive belt on my C1. Never attempted it before. How did you manage with locating the bottom lock bolt? I found it difficult with the lack of space. Was thumbing around for a while thinking of found it then noticed I was tightening the wrong bolt. Got there in the end. Thanks for the video.
Hi mate thanks for the msg, i didnt have a problem to be honest, glad you managed to get it sorted in the end though and glad you liked the video ! 👍👍👍👍
Is there a way to collect the used oil in like an old oil container so easier to take to the dump than just in a tray? Like a funnel that goes to a v big bottle, or a way to stop flow whilst switch over to a diff bottle if get full up? Otherwise, not sure how to get tray of oil to dump without spilling it everywhere, do you use a funnel to pour it out tray into emptied new oil container, please?
@@mec-tec thanks! My mate has that car and hasnt changed the oil in at least 2.5 yrs, he got it off his bro who maybe didnt either. Trying to help him!
@@mec-tec when you go to the dump with the used oil can, do you need to throw away the can too? I imagine you can buy cans to transport old oil for this very purpose.
@@echoecho5244 you can keep the old cans, at my local dump you empty the cans in a large container, you can throw the cans away there or keep them to reuse 👍
Ha ha mot station lying, reminded me of a car i took for it's mot an it failed on brake pipes,,,,brake pipes the same garage replaced for me on the last mot from steel to copper, when i pulled them about they sh*t themselves, never used this mot station since!
Very nice job! A few good tips, a few I know for quite some time. You would be surprised how cheap people are! I hear to many scraping brakes when people brake, as the pads are scraping the discs, destroying the lot! Glad servicing is easy. Nice your friend face you new discs, great friend. If this were mine, I would get you to do the work, I'm too lazy and couldn't be bothered! But I do know that if you hear certain noises, you need to replace discs and pads like yesterday!
Thanks so much for the great reply ! Fingers crossed i will get some more mpg, i will report back when i have used a tank of fuel and see if i get more 👍👍👍
You say somebody replaced the pads and not the discs but I've had an Aygo for 92,000 miles and replaced the discs twice and always had plenty of pad depth left. I got a better quality set this time (brembo) so not sure if that'll change things but in my limited experience these cars do wear discs faster then the pads. I think the brembo pads may be a softer friction meterial so hopefully they wear instead of the discs
Thanks so much, glad you liked the video, yes thats corect, all 3 have toyota aygo underpinings, engine suspenion etc just as you say with different styling 👍👍👍
Hi mate i have a PEUGEOT 107 it has a problem like when headlights or parking lights are switched on speedometer was not working can you please share your idea to solve this problem thank you
What's the tool you're using at 31:50 (I believe to 'squeeze the piston back into the caliper')? Unless I'm mistaken, you don't mention it anywhere. Thank you 😊
You forgot to wipe down the new discs with brake cleaner to remove the packaging oils. This will contaminate your new pads and could potentially be dangerous as slippery oil and brakes don't mix. You also didn't lubricate the guide pins with silicon grease.
Hi Because these discs have the coating on them, they didnt have any packing oil on them as the coating stops them corroding, i used copper grease on the pins so that should suffice 👍👍👍
@@mec-tec I'm not sure that they wouldn't have grease on them anyway and there would certainly be contamination that will still need a quick clean before assembly. Anyway as people are watching this that will likely attempt the job themselves, it might be worth pointing out that they should be cleaned and the reason why you feel you didn't need to as they might not use the same discs as you. Also copper grease will corrode the guide pin rubber. Silicone grease won't. Sorry I'm not being critical but I just feel it's worth pointing out. Great video though. Very informative

Yes the accessibility and even the underneath the way it's all laid out it's so simple

Fill the oil filter with new oil before fitting it and use new oil to coat the rubber ring.
Good advice. But not every filter requires you to put oil in them.

@@mec-tec No problem! Thanks very much for replying and clarifying the tool you used. Appreciate it :)
just curious, what did you use to clean the pcv, map and throttle body?
was it simply brake cleaner?
I think from memory i used panel wipe which a degreaser alot like brake clean, that would be fine to use as well 👍👍👍
