It is mostly welded up in big sheets on rolling mills, it works just fine. The steel is not too bad, the heat treatment is laughable or not done at all. I heat treated one of these and was able get to rockwell at 58 So it can be turned into a usable knife
I bought a couple much bigger ones off ebay with some pocket change. One of them is quite good out of the box, is Rockwell 60ish and keeps an edge very well. And its quite pretty. The second one was like 420 prehard. so I removed the grips, and heat treated it properly (guessing at the type of steel(s). After gluing the grip panels back on.. and sharpining, it too turned out to be a decent knife. Rockwell 56ish, sharpened easily, held an edge quite well and is also pretty. (I do have a Rockwell hardness tester.. im a steel fabricator and machinist)

Seriously. Theyre proud to claim that its made from "Bessemer steel". The Bessemer process is a method of combining scrap hardenable steel and mild steel... thats right, the blade being pot metal damascus is a selling point to these manufacturers.
Buying them for display is one thing, but there are so many manufacturers making high quality knives from high quality materials, it actually upsets me when these scammers (its NOT 1095 or 5160 and 15N20 as they all claim, so, scamming) make a sale from a novice knife buyer looking for a good user.
Even clones are more scrupulous than pakistani Damascus at this level. Ethical issues aside, at least clones are safe to the user.
@@CNYKnifeNerd nothing wrong with a clone. if A: when you buy it it is sold to you as a clone B: when you sell ot you sell it as a clone and not try to get over on someone. i just bought 3 waiting on them now. 1 was D2 others are 8cr15mov so im hoping they take a good edge and look good till im ready to invest the money in the real deal if ever
Dude! You just saved me $174. They sell some beautiful looking stuff but I had to sniff out if they were for real. It never felt legit. They're on Etsy, too. I know it's the same Pakistan joint. I'd happily buy you a beer if I could for a net savings of $169. You're hilarious. Great video.
I don't know anything about knives or sharpening them so it was interesting seeing your analysis of this thing. I have been surprised by how bad things on ebay are in other regards, like USB3 cables that can't do USB3. I don't know if you have a way to measure how hard that metal is but that would have been interesting to see, especially compared to a regular knife. Thanks for the content!
“is this even wood?’ Kicks a huge tree. Made me smile involuntarily. I like it when that happens.
Dude, you are a gifted editor. Your comic timing is sweet. I laughed my big, fat ass off. Not all of it. Some ass is still on. Good job.
When you were reading that description my eyes rolled so far back into my head I summoned a demon.

This is my favorite video of yours. I'm sure it took a lot of effort to edit it, and I hope you know it didn't go un-noticed.
LOL... Anytime someone begins a sentence with: “So, the other night, I was perusing eBay...,” you know the story is about to go south.

The amount of time you've spent on producing a great video on a piece of dog doo doo called a "knife", is impressive sir. The "sharpening my Damascus" bit is legendary. Or should be. Submitting this to the UA-cam Reviews Hall of Fame immediately.

Hilarious, very entertaining and genuine demonstrations of the product. I love this video! You certainly made your point across as clear as day.
The existential crisis I feel in your editing is pure gold.
*Pure* gold? Or gold plated, gold colored foil, polished brass to a high luster, gold colored spray paint, brass-gold tinted chrome plate ... at least your sheath is functioning, I bought one for $15 and the sheath don't even fit.
I literally laughed till I cried watching this. Great info!! 👍👍👍👍
I remember back in 99', I ordered an arming sword from Museum Replicas that was made in India. When I went to bend the blade with my hands to test its flexibility, the blade stayed bent with only light amount of pressure applied to it.
You can buy vintage hand wound Omega watches from India on eBay, they even come with a spare battery.
Your definition was spot on... "patter welded steel." The handle was micarta, don't know if anybody else mentioned it below. I didn't know what it was until I watched a video from Lewis Razors 3 years ago. He used it frequently for his razor blade scales.
I got a simular knife. It was so cool and versatile. It actually let me peel off “baby knives” by removing layers of the metal. By hand.
"Stand back, I've got Damascus" lol

I’d check it for dried blood, looks like it’s been used to saw through a few things at a microscopic level.
Hi Alex , thanks for saving me $25 , I don't tend to buy cheap knives anyway ! I think Uri Geller would have had a heap of fun with that ' Damascus ' knife

If I had a dollar for everytime I've thought to myself "you'd think I'd have learned by now" as I collect some other crap from my letterbox...
Well actually I probably wouldn't have many dollars because I'd pump them back into eBay, but you get the gist😉
You're Right, in my case its watches, I never learn! in the last 2 yrs I have bought 3 watches via facebook, NONE of them were as advertised, I have discovered that its called Bait and switch. They steal someone else's advert and then put a price that's affordable, 3 weeks later you get some Chinese Drop shipped junk. When you complain they offer you $3 refund, if you really push you get up to $10 refund. If you insist on a refund, you have to return it to China at your own expense, so even more money down the tube and still no guarantee that you get your refund. It's a waste of time complaining to facebook, I mean what are they going to do, Not sell them advertising space lol. India and Pakistan are as bad, Poor people trying to con the rich westerner!
Oooooh! I can feel the $25 dollar worth of anger on the other side of the monitor........

18 years of inflation isn’t nothing.

You can get the same model of knife today for 150 Swedish kronor (about 15 euro or dollars lazily translated)
It was about the same back then...
imagine getting a knife for $0.92 period. I gotta get me a mora

So back when I was a kid many decades ago, there were "hobo" shops down skid row. Shops where a hobo could get whatever one might need on the road. Mess kits, ponchos, Sleeping bags, socks, fuel cans, used hustler magazines, etc. Pakistani steel "bum stickers" could be had for $5 or so. Big heavy blades with a sort of pointy end. They were single use items...
I know you wrote this a year ago but that is so interesting. By "skid row" do you mean downtown LA area? or is that more of a general term? also, what were the bum stickers like? and how could a blade be single use? like in the context of self defense orr

Mora is awesome..
The cheapest Mora here in Sweden will set you back like 1 USD.
The only real difference from an expensive Mora is that the cheap one comes with a really shitty plastic sheath and handle.
I have a friend that buy them and then melt of the handles and make some really nice handles on them and then just flip them for plenty of dollares on the internet :P
I think there is a certain charme in slightly translucent polypropylene handles and parts. I mean they tested them, they are safe, ergo shaped, minimum weight. We live in the future!
@@SianaGearz Yes but they only test them for "normal" wear and tear.
