One other advantage I forgot to mention is the lack of Geo Fencing. Alot of people will appreciate that.

@tedc7714 Geo fencing refers to flight restrictions according to location and airspace. I know you can set the limits for height and distance but that's not what I was referring to.
In my opinion, the lack of a 3-axis gimbal is the Achilles heel of this drone, which makes his video stabilization not comparable to drones like the dji mini 2 se and fimi mini v2.

But the lack of an aeroscope tracking analog, zero geofencing, zero tracking by the drone manufacturer (unlike DJI that tracks and stores every single move you make) is the real selling point imo.
@dans4786 definitely agree lack of geofencing is a definite selling point over DJI or Autel product.
The lack of a fragile gimbal is the good thing of this drone. Makes it easier to carry in your pocket or bag. The Achilles heel is the follow-me feature. It's the wrong type. It only follows from behind where you can't watch it. Done correctly (with hompepoint update) this Atom SE could have been a better hiker/biker drone than a DJI Mini.
@@dans4786 Indeed, the fimi mini has no GEO fence too, with the nearly same price, you can get a much better little drone in every aspect. Also it's shame that potensic atom copied the design of the fimi X8 mini directly, specially the remote, it's looks the same. I heard that fimi plans to sue them.
I am considering my first venture into flying a drone. As a very senior citizen, I am pretty leary of attempting this, (I'm 72 years old and my vision & reflexes aren't what they use to be), I'm impressed with the apparent ease of learning to fly this without crashing my wallet and, after your review, will certainly look into this drone some more. A gimbal would be nice of course, but one bite at a time.

I like how you didnt hate on it simply because it wasnt made by DJI, it isnt made to be a top notch performance drone, it is a high level BEGINNER drone. If you cannot afford DJI, this is a decent alternative.
Beginner level is what my understanding it is geared towards. The gimble seams to be the part of the drone that takes a beating with new flyers. The Atom SE seems to have a bit more protection against crashes.🤷♂
This drone is absolutely perfect for surveillance. Say you live someplace where riots break out or some type of shtf situation. Get extra batteries and you can run surveillance 24 hours around your property
You have the antenna pointed at the ground. Increase range by setting up the antenna as instructed 👍
I think your range limitations may be due to the electrical interference or the radio tower. It could also be your wireless mic. It's been proven that the DJI and possibly Rode wireless mics have a huge effect on the range that the drone gets. Great review overall. I noticed the fogging of the lens and I've heard some people mention it but it seems to go away after a bit.
All good points. As far as the wireless mic I did not use it for the flight review, I only used the Gopro Mic during the flying portion. I also think the range could have been improved if I flew a bit higher. I was staying close to the tree tops to get cinematic footage. I also noticed the fogging of the camera in the beginning. It did go away shortly and I wonder if giving it a wipe with a camera lense cloth would help with that? Thanks for your feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for a great review! I totally agree with the pros and cons you pointed out. It is a very nice all around sub-250 g drone but the lack of a 3 axis gimbal does hurt it a bit at that $299 price point. I do love how it flies though!

I think this would hit a lot of boxes for people if the price was $150-200 but at $250-300, its competing with mini2 and autels lite drones. I think its well made from what's I've seen. yes, there's no geofencing but I think the people looking for a first drone won't know about this due to dji being so big. it is on amazon though so it could do as well as holystone drones so who knows

Been looking at DJI minis but don’t want to break the bank buying one this seems like a good alternative since I’ve only ever flown drones as a kid where they would crash after 5 min of use so thanks for the review was really great went over everything a was very clear 👍

I just got an Atom with 3 axis gimble (and 6km range va 4 on the SE). Picture is def cleaner with no discernible chatter on the better gimble.
Re the transmission breakup you experienced, the manual advises that the flat surface on the antennae is where the signal emanates. Looked like you had the tips pointed toward drone so the antennae were transmitting parallel to the ground instead of up towards the drone. FWIW they recommend one flat and one vertical for broadest single strength at a distance.
Re the reception issues you had
It looks like a good little drone. Maybe they just need to refine it a wee bit, smooth out the ruff edges and it might just be a great wee drone 🚁👍
Like you said, it is a little over priced, but overall, a great drone, specially for beginners

Nice review, I have had an Atom SE for just over six months and love mine. Were you aware that Potensic has just released the Atom with a 3 axis gimbal, quick shots, 6 KM range (under ideal conditions of course), adjustable ISO and other added camera settings over the SE, and it lists for around $400.00 USD for the fly more kit with charging hub and three batteries. Thanks for the review and I waiting for my wallet to give permission to order mine lol.

2.4 ghz band disrupts the signal on this drone especially range wise. Idk if that was an issue in this video but it has been for others
Ha! Yup, pretty much. It's a camera drone, so I'd expect the footage to be at least somewhat useable.
That lack of a gimbal and failed eis was a no-go for Kelly and me, as well.
Also, the poor range and choppy feed was an issue for me on our "second chance - saved from a dumpster" attempt.
I'm glad you had the same experience as there were several commenters who were saying things like "you must have been paid by DJI" etc. 😅

I bought this and didnt realise it was not a 3 axis gimbal. Tested it the other day and was not impressed. Need a light drone for goiong travelling in April. So I might get the fimi mini

@@edrone_ yeh realised that after I got the atom SE. Got the fimi mini in the end. Was cheaper than the atom but the same features. I think it even shares a lot of parts. Very similar feeling drone

Normally I'd pull out my ladder & scale up the 25 feet several times a year, checking on things, although at 70 years old it's a bit more daunting. Should be noted that today, for the Atom SE, Amazon wants $314.xx (with coupons) Canadian, all in (txs too). The comparable Atom w/gimble & DJI Mini 2 SE kits are about $300 more or 2x as much. The Atom SE seems to meet my needs & budget better. Do you have a suggestion for an alternate at the same cost at the Atom SE? Cheers from Vancouver 🇨🇦
Watching other videos on this drone, you can't have a 2.4 GB mic or any kind of transmission that ruins the distance. And then I notice you had a Pole right by you. Which I don't know what they do with that Pole as far as radio waves. So give it a try without their mic. Or whatever you have, that's interfering.

You would think for the make they could have made a better drone
Definitely overpriced for not having a gimbal.
Is there a secret to connecting to this for the first time? I've tried three times with zero luck. I have an SD card in it and tried inside and outside to connect to it.
Should be bound out of the box. If not there should be instructions in the manual how to rebind.

your go pro would of been the thing that made the camera glitchy because it might have interference on the antenna
Gopro had Bluetooth and wifi both turned off so I don't think it was the camera. Maybe the antenna in the back possibly?

I have a holystone 720e as my first drone that I care about crashing but still do on occasion lol. Wanted to know if the potensic would be considered an upgrade thank you for answering that question
If the Holystone 720 has a 3 axis gimbal then this one would not be a upgrade.
@edrone_ it Does not and the gps on the holystone is super sketchy....It works or it doesn't, and when in "Doesn't Mode" regaining control is another crap shoot entirely.

I am currently in the market for a cheaper drone to shoot fishing and car videography shots. I have been using a friends dji mini 4K, but considering buying one of these. I know this has the EIS instead of a gimbal, but overall seems like they are fairly similar in terms of general design and video quality. Do you have any recommendations on which would be the better option of the two?
The good thing is you definitely have some options. So there is a newer model of the Potensic Atom that has a 3 Axis gimbal. Definitely check that one out. It's called the Potensic Atom. Both the DJI Mini 4k and the Potensic Atom are very similar. Biggest difference is the DJI has geo fencing and the Potensic does not.

I had one 3 days, Its going back over the fact it cant take a level pic even with no wind apparently but I have had lines go through video when it was 5 feet in front of me out to 800 feet. It started toilet bowling today, had to recalibrate after only two batteries. I was impressed with it holding its own in wind but it cannot make up for the rest. I was thinking of grabbing the 3 AX gimbal version but thats $400. Is it worth that compared to a DJI?

I got mine yesterday and the video footage is watery and shaky what sd card would u recoment has ive tried a few and video playback is still watery and chopy no mater what sd card ive tried have u any idea why this is happening if u can let me know i would appriciate any advice thank you
Sounds like you may have a issue with the eis. (Electronic image stabilization) You can try another micro sd card. I use the Samsung Evo 128 gb cards. If that still does not change I would try and return or exchange you may have a defective unit.

Definitely took it off. The haze was from taking the drone out of the air conditioning and into the warmer outside air. It cleared after a bit of flying.
are there any other under 249g drones with a 3 axis gimble not named DJI?, I've only really flown Whoops, I did pick up a HS360S when they went for 85 bucks for a week but going from headset to phone is something else again, I do enjoy your vids.

Fimi X8 Mini is probably the best alternative to a DJI Mini.
My C-Fly Faith Mini isn't too bad for the price. Follow-me was a disappointment for me.
SJRC F5+ with 3-axis gimbal+EIS. It may be over 250 grams.
I still like my SG108 Pro. It's 270 grams and video is bit shaky. But it's only $130 and has a gimbal and SD-card slot. My S188 had great quality video. 256 grams. Are we really going to register for 6 grams or 20 grams? Cars kill 1.3 million people every year and are allowed to go a bit fater than max speed.

If you want to get better range and longer distance you have to have it on airplane mode sir
Thanks for your input. The only issue I see with using airplane mode is for your maps. If you don't have cell service for the maps they may not work properly or be the most accurate. Would need to see if you can cache the map before turning on airplane mode.
Good review! But I think for the price, there isn't much else out there as nice as this drone is. I thin some of you pro drone evaluators have a some unrealistic expectations for a 250 dollar nice quality video - camera drone.
And to me, an example of how unrealistic your expectations seemed to be were your repeated, "Oh wow, it is really slow" remarks, in "Video Mode", when I thought the video was exceptional, for the prince point.
I have seen reviews on just about every drone in this price range, and so far, the video from this unit, looks way better then most drones in this rice range. But after all, I am still just a novice in this Drone thing..

I have a question, I noticed a flare in the upper part of the video for the first few minutes, is it something to worry about while shooting ?
Thanks for watching and leaving your feedback. The flare I think was from the drone being in the cooler vehicle and once the sun hit it I think that may have caused a little condensation. Probably just make sure to give a wipe with a microfiber cloth before flying when in hotter or colder environments.

This drone does not have standard remote id built in. It is sub 250 so it will not require registration for recreational flying.

Your near power lines . other reviewers didn't have power lines anywhere near , and it has a 3 kilometre/2.50+ miles and the other version has a 5 kilometre range. Those power lines your are testing the drone near should be taken into consideration most experienced drone pilots know this. Power Lines ???? behind you Hmmm didn't you see them?

I own one and I'm more than happy with it. My range test reached 2.7 km, through the mountains, which might have something to do with decreasing range distance. The battery gives me 28 minutes of flying, which is not bad at all.Speaking for me, i see the video quality perfect . Talking of the lack of the gimbal, yes , they failed, and they realised that because at the end of this autumn they will came up with a new 3 axis gimbal drone. So overall,as I'm not a professional droner, it's more than perfect for me, even speaking of the lack of the gimbal. This is a link of a video i made without no editing more than cut and paste.
