interesting, I have a guitar with 81/85 been thinking about going to 55. I think you actually proved something which is what I’ve been thinking 81s don’t sound great through amp sims. They are too compressed, nasally, raw. they are made for pushing a real tube amp. The 55 to me sounds better
completely off topic but, you sound like your asian or japanese speaking. thats the first time i heard some finnish speaking. pretty different to me. getting back to the pickups subject? have you bought all the 3 retro active pickups? im an emg FAN, but i cant stand the 81 in the neck. NOT WORKING AT ALL. but my favorite set of emgs are the 81- 60A . have you tried the EMG 60 A in the neck?: best pickup EVER for clean sound and for leads with or without distortion. singing, strong, balanced, warm. awesome . im curious about those pickups, the retroactive. im trying to finish my bare knuckle pickups collection(ragnaroks, juggernauts, painkillers, mules, blackdogs, apache neck and slow hand neck) and im done.
Ha, I've been told before that Finnish sounds quite odd... :D I've actually haven't tried the other Retro Actives, but I definitely am willing to try them out. I agree about the 81 in the neck, it's really "cold" and harsh sounding. It might work in some genres but for my style, not so much. I actually have tried the 60 for a couple of times (just shortly at the guitar shops), but the tests were so short that I actually couldn't make an opinion about them. I love the Fat 55 for their tightness, but for more aggressive sound I prefer 57/66 combo. They definitely got everything for the active pickups I'm into. 57/66 and Fat 55s are kinda similar, but 57/66 have much more gain and "growl". Both sets have Alnico Vs.
@@LateHonkola Yeah I guess you are right but that didn't get thru UA-cam compression very well. So did you keep them or did you put the 81/85 back in ? :)
Exactly the comparison I wanted, and a big like for the Wolfheart T-shirt!
Nice to hear that, thanks!
Great job man, i like those retroactive more and more, i think i'll do the swap. Watta Watta! :D

You're the first person I have seen play the middle position in an EMG demo. It is actually a very good position, I don't know why it is ignored.
It definitely is, I use that position a lot. Especially for cleans.
Спасибо за обзор!

Hi are they good for metal on standard e tuning or standard d tuning?
Absolutely! I've actually played a bit in D and they punch really good in the low mids.
So just the generic EMG sound with a looser bass ? Nicely made video thou gj!
I think they're not so typical "EMG-sounding", they're less compressed and have more dynamics. The output is also a bit lower.

Yeah, I kept them. They sound so much better than the "regular" 81/85 -set, imo.
generic emg is good.
