The velocity the gun comes back at is what causes it to be unpleasant fairly quickly. Most of us can handle substantial recoil that pushes back continuously and drives our hands and arms back and up like a full power 240gr 44 Magnum round fired from a 6-8'' barrel in a Ruger or S&W full sized steel frame (Redhawk or N frmaed S&W) But the really hard kickers in lighter than average for caliber guns like this one drive the gun back so fast that it becomes unpleasant to shoot for most of us
I think the reason you’re finding it unpleasant to shoot is because you’re holding it like you’re trying to control the recoil with your wrists and hands(keeping the gun on target) like you would with a 9mm. Grip it the way you are but let the recoil take your arms up with the gun, opposed to trying to keep your arms locked and the gun on target. Not sure if I’m making sense but when you let it happen you’ll know exactly what I mean, because the muzzle won’t have that violent torque flip, and your hand and wrist won’t hurt😅 good luck
I have shot it that way before. Was wanting to show how stiff the recoil is. I can shoot a 460 S&W and a 44 mag all day. But those 500’s are too much. 🤣. Thanks for the advice.

I fully agree. Even a comped 500 is way more pleasant than this one. I’ve got a 5 inch 44 mag that’s really tame compared to the 500.
