So important to be respectful of the culture and the people in any country you visit. Philippines is no different. I am always humbled when in the Philippines because of the constant reminders of how "being" is more important than "having" when it comes to happiness. (Understandably, in many cases there is no choice) It's made me more of a minimalist. I fly into Manila tomorrow and will spend time with a close friend, first at his place where he is pretty much the only "white" guy and then Palawan where last time I didn't want to leave LOL Much respect for the three of you!
I envy you guys. I am a Filipino but have never been in the southern part of the Philippines. You are more well-traveled in the Philippines than a local like me hehe. Once I get a chance to travel in Dumaguete, I will hunt you Paul and the rest of the gang. 😄
I loved this conversation of 3 smart guys and their perspectives of how to live as expats in the Philippines. Thank you Paul, the new Paul and Mike for this gathering it was informal and it was fun.
I'm in Virginia and building a rather huge trellis system to grow my luffa sponges on. It works out great to listen to your videos. I don't have to be tuned in visually. It's more like a podcast. This is day two of the bamboo trellis build. It makes me imagine I'm on an island within a city. My neighbor said I could live in it. He likes to sit in his backyard adjacent to mine and watch me, my chickens, ducks and goose do gardening projects. It's my answer to living someplace like the Philippines.
Thank you for coming to the Philippines which is helping the economy and uplifting the lives of some people in spite of the bad and the ugly. Ugly because of scammers and the corruption which I am ashamed of; bad for bad roads, undependable power, poverty, some bad people, etc. You are all admirable having a community helping each other and giving tips for others not to make mistakes, etc. You can be examples for Filipinos who see the good in you. Like one guy said, girls should be your last priority. Learn about the country first and see if you can put up with what you see.
@@paulinthephilippinesolddog9234 So true. I fear many vloggers are afraid to even mention the social problems you described so well. To hear a constant banter about how wonderful the Philippines is.... is getting old. Love the Notre Dame shirt Paul. My Filipino son is an assistant Sue Chef at Legends on Notre Dame Campus. We are from North Manchester Indiana.I also have another Filipino son who is in the Navy. I think it is cool we have a lot in common.
I would think that part of the success with foreigners in the Philippines, Dumageti in particular, is due to the close bonds with other men who have a common interest and a similar background. Men need their space and probably more in their later years. Being able to get away with friends to travel, or a weekend adventure would definitely quench the thirst of living well and stress free from everyday life.

My view is that each of you brings your unique personalities and perspectives to your presentations. Each of you guys are interesting and enjoyable to watch. Social Security is in the U.S. general fund. There is no separate fund for SS, so it will not go broke. On the other hand, it will stop when the U.S. government decides not to print a check for you. If it was in a separate fund and invested in the markets, we would have trillions of dollars in SS, but unfortunately the government squandered it all.
Very true, the SS recipients for years have been getting cheated on their yearly pay raise, it’s always at least a few percentage points lower then the actual consumer price index for inflation
I've been a subscriber to all three of you for the last several months. The philippines ticks all the boxes. I have five years until retirement. Dumaguete and the Negros Island province will be where I'll go within the year to check out the country to see if it is the spot for me.
I just had to watch this video to feel the closeness and camaraderie between the expats of Duma. It's unfortunate the succeeding events occurred. Now it's all about what could have been. Sad, just sad.....
Pauly Wolly, This was one of your better video content/format. Other topics you might consider, 1. Ex-pats, living alone in the Philippines. 2. You or your wife covering availability of older women 37 to 47 for older ex-pats to consider. 3. If an ex-pats had to retreat back to their respective countries, for whatever reason, could they survive? 4. Is tension between China and the US affecting the Philippines in anyway, particularly with the new military base at the Philippines? 5. Follow up on older Expat, who are disabled, and their ability to survive in the Philippines.6. What is it like for disabled and or ill ex-pats living in an old peoples home, retirement facility there in the Philippines? Keep on, keeping on…. 😎🇵🇷🤙🏼
Hi guys, I am 60 and Canadian and will be retiring to SanCarlos later this year. Just wondering if you recommend getting Health insurance over there or just pay as you go? I’ve been hearing two sides of that story and not sure which is best.
So -- Dumaguete is growing - but - it seems like a positive thing in all your minds. -- And growth is a good thing as long as it is controlled somewhat and really doesn't ruin things for a lot of people ? -- You guys are living the dream and certainly have me envious. My age health and income combine to keep me here in the USA even though I don't really like it. -- Keep up the great videos and allow us to dream - who can't actually do it !
I used to lived in the Silicon Valley due to high rent 1 BR apartment $2,500 a month. Groceries are so expensive, 50 lbs bag of rice 3 years ago $17.99 now $42.99, gas $2.59 now $5.49.
The idea with social security as I understand it is that if cuts are legislated they would start in 2035 and would just apply to new people claiming social security. Might be wrong but that’s how I understand what is being discussed.
Hey Paul, I hope to be sitting there yucking it up with you guys in the fall. I'm about to book a flight this week. Hope to meet you soon for a cup of coffee.
New Paul thanks for talking about Iloilo. We have 5 private hospitals in the main city and 2 public hospitals too. 7 private universities which are well rated and many call centers. We have modern facilities, condos popping up everywhere, restos, coffee shops, bike lanes and riverside walks (Esplanade we call it), imported grocery store like Costco we call S&R. We have a European community hiding somewhere and lots of expats that I see in hardware stores. If you like the rural life, you can be there in 20 mins. There are about 3 foreign vloggers here, 2 who live here permanently. Thank you for visiting.
I can tell when the clouds pass by because it gets dark and shines again. I enjoy watching you guys I miss home, home is Zamboanguita which is third town south of Dumaguete. Watching here in Spokane WA USA. Might come home for good some time.
Great information for newbies to hear. I loved Iloilo Iloilo as well. Only thing is locals not as open or curios to foreigners as other places. But that's a 2 day observation. I could be wrong ??? Hope Monty is doing good ! He is a blessed man.
Gentlemen, I really think making a video going over a checklist of things that need to be done BEFORE coming to the Phil. There are probably many things that you guys had done, or learned about after you got there that you wished you had done before traveling abroad. That video could be so valuable. I am also still fuzzy on the whole throw away ticket.
Good idea. I'm planning a first time trip to the Phils. Waiting on passport. Is there still a 6 month period you have to wait when getting a passport for first time? That's one of many questions that will pop up I'm sure.
Hi Guys! Loving the catch up between each other. Feels like I am sitting across the table. Making my morning coffee taste even better. God Bless.

Thanks a lot for the compliment Timothy. Thank you for watching the video as well. I really appreciate it.
Three of the best!
Just a quick perspective about your discussion concerning the proliferation of You-Tubers. It was an excellent discussion guys. My view is that each of you brings your unique personalities and perspectives to your presentations. Each of you guys are interesting and enjoyable to watch. I look forward to tuning in to each of your channels. Keep up the great work! Thanks.
Thank you so much for the support Steven!. We really appreciate that. Thanks a lot for watching the video.
Very true, the SS recipients for years have been getting cheated on their yearly pay raise, it’s always at least a few percentage points lower then the actual consumer price index for inflation
its nice to vlog your dog too. i enjoy foreigners taking care of local dog
Thanks a lot for watching the video Bart. Indeed vlogging the dog is a wonderful idea. Thanks for the advice by the way. Hope you have a great day.
Fun and informative
Glad you liked it! thanks a lot for watching the video.
Nice chat you all had!
It's how the expat develops a sustainable community that should be forefront and U tube as low on the list of social scaffolding given its saturation.
Funny group of guys. Thanks for the laugh.
Thanks a lot for watching the video. I'm glad that you have appreciated it.
I've been a subscriber to all three of you for the last several months. The philippines ticks all the boxes. I have five years until retirement. Dumaguete and the Negros Island province will be where I'll go within the year to check out the country to see if it is the spot for me.
3 of my favorite vloggers! Great show!! With all due respect though: who's Larry, who's Curly, & who's Moe??😂
Thanks a lot for watching the video. Hope you have a great day as well
I am officially in the “Colorful Collection of Crazy People Club”. Finally a club I feel comfortable belonging to. 😂
Thanks a lot for watching the video John. I'm glad you have sensed a belonging already.
I just had to watch this video to feel the closeness and camaraderie between the expats of Duma. It's unfortunate the succeeding events occurred. Now it's all about what could have been. Sad, just sad.....
Pauly Wolly,
This was one of your better video content/format.
😎🇵🇷🤙🏼
Lol about "idiots abroad".
This one will be abroad too, - asap.
Good video Paul. I enjoyed the conversations.
Glad you liked it! thanks a lot for watching the video.
Hi guys, I am 60 and Canadian and will be retiring to SanCarlos later this year. Just wondering if you recommend getting Health insurance over there or just pay as you go? I’ve been hearing two sides of that story and not sure which is best.
This episode is so funny ... Keep it up sir! I'm learning...
Great convo guys!
vloggers, what ever content helps Philippine Tourism. I like it and most Filipinos do.
Including treasure recovery !
Thank you so much for watching the video Bart!
I like when you have these get togethers and just shoot the breeze :)
Thanks Steve
MISERABLE AMERICANS
Love your videos Paul, you are a bright spot in my day. Well you can tell my life sucks right now, thank you for being so real.
Thanks a lot for watching the video Andre. I'm glad that I have inspired you.
Awesome to see the 3 amigos together having a casual chat, you guys are the role model of how expats should be when moving to a foreign country.
Thanks a lot for watching the video Nate. I really appreciate the compliment as well. Hope you have a nice day.
Cool Vedio. Youl take care
Glad you liked it Keith! thanks a lot for watching the video.
Thanks a lot for watching the video Frank. I really appreciate it.. Hope you have a great day.
Thanks a lot for watching the video Mark. I really appreciate it.
Thanks a lot for watching the video flora. I really appreciate it. Hope you have a good day.
Thank you so much for your input Kevin. Sounds like a great idea. Thanks a lot for watching the video.
Good idea. I'm planning a first time trip to the Phils. Waiting on passport. Is there still a 6 month period you have to wait when getting a passport for first time? That's one of many questions that will pop up I'm sure.
