    *Note: within 2% of body weight loss during activity in hot conditions is within the normal range, it is more important to increase hydration (fluid and electrolytes) if losing more than this amount during the run.

    Great to see a local ultra marathoner! I am going for the Niagara 80K next month, I mostly run marathons but this will be my first ultra marathon. I am planning on taking gels, but also thinking that I might add in some solid food. Do you have any advice or tips on taking solids during ultras? I have never taken solids during my marathons or long runs, but I feel like I need solids because it's 80K?

      We have some awesome trails to train on don't we! I have found even in 50ks my stomach starts to get a bit weird. I added in "Trail butter" which is a nut butter single serving pouch. I'll usually try around 4hrs taking that in instead of a gel. I found that has worked well to get some real food in. And watermelon at the aid stations sits so great too!

    Great video. Sorry for my confusion....you said you took in 101 oz of fluid but lost 32 oz. Maybe I misunderstood but it sounds like you figure you were under hydrated during your run. Can you try to clarify for someone who is easily confused. Thanks

      Yeah! So I should have taken in 133oz to have not lost weight!

      Although 2% loss is body weight is technically within the acceptable range - anything outside of this would need increased fluid intake including electrolytes

      @@tanisbolton Thanks for the info. I will have to try weighing myself before and after to see how my hydration intake is.
