The Google Earth advice is amazing. Marvelous!
I also liked your Excel version of a training plan. MUCH better than what I have been putting together.

Amazing! Good luck in your training. The big longruns during marathon builds are so rewarding

This is what coaching should look like ... self or from somebody else. Following a template training plan is not it. Your level of specificity is impressive. I do something similar but after watching this realize that I can do better at the longer range planning. One observation regarding training specificity for effort (in addition to elevation per distance) is in Jason Koop's "Training Essential for Ultrarunning 2E". On page p386-387 he shows an example of mapping the duration of the climbs to effort (he uses RPE) and training for that. This works particularly well on the treadmill (or as David Roche calls it, "treadhills"). One other thing, I uses Ultrapacer for race estimation. I have to adjust the normalized pace for conditions like surface, weather, current fitness, but it is very good.

Thanks Eric. I have that book too - I should definitely check that out. I'm adding the uphill treadmill this year actually because of david roche! I've been binging the swap podcast on my runs lately. I like the idea of RPE since it's sometimes hard to simulate the actual elevation gain

@@tanisbolton What other people call easy runs I call "podcast runs" because of listening to SWAP and ignoring any metrics. Regarding RPE, I personally have trouble using only that as a measure of effort, but try to triangulate it with other data.
