This review highlights one of the big trends: more affordable audiophile quality speakers. This is a great group and this isn’t all of the ones sub $10,000. There is the open baffle Calladans from Clayton Audio that look fantastic for around $3,000. Another web tuber has their Typhon from CSS Audio for around $5,500 and Dynaudio Evoke 50 which is around $5,000 in passive form and a little over $10,000 when active. This is not to say there aren’t better speakers above my arbitrary price point, but I’d wager the law of diminishing returns starts at this point or lower and that the majority of audiophiles will have no problem finding a compelling speaker in this range ($2,000-$10,000). Even if you limit your budget to $5,000-$6,000, there is a lot to choose from!
Audiophile quality? Yes, absolutely. Hi End? Nope. The 0 series loudspeakers are totally in another league, especially the Borresen 03. The M series is even better.
@@DaveJ6515 I know this is somewhat arbitrary, but at what price point to you think audiophile ends and hi end begins and do you have an example of an “entry level” hi end speaker?
Wow I found a pair of speakers that make the base and voice of " Crystal Ball Carolin No - Topic " sound fantastic. The two speakers are mirror images of each other. Each speaker has one 15" woofer, two dome mid-range drivers, and four dome tweeters. These speakers are incredible. Further details: I built them myself back in 1978 for less than $250 each.
I have been listening to the OGY with a pair of powered subs and these are phenomenal. I am coming from the Zu Audio Soul 6 and the subs are Zu Audio Undertone 3. Truly a remarkable pair of speakers.
Great review! I am curious why not bring in the Borresen X2. Obviously more expensive, but by the time you get the X1 and stands, the price is similar.
I can tell you why the Børresen sound the best. There is no substitute for speed. You can't 'room correct' speed. You can't get more speed with equalisation. That's why ribbons, AMT's and planars sound better when filtered properly (steep; 3rd order or more). That's why the Buchard is limited in the treble. A 19mm dome is never as fast as a ribbon. It's like that with cone surface for the bass. But that's where subwoofers come in. Also the best spot for subs is never the same as the best spot for the main speakers.
Verygood. I like the X1 but they look like they stand taller than most bookshelves. These probably would not work well in my smaller listening room with 6 foot listening distance. I think Thomas's $1200.00 speakers will work best for most people.
Which sounds more realistic? $7k/pair PS Audio Aspen FR5 versus Borresen X1 $6.5k/pair I currently love my GoldenEar BRX with AMT tweeters + neonydium magnets. I also use 2 1500 watts 9 in subs. ----- source=Apple Music lossless.
If the Borresen X1 is anything like the Borresen X3… They would be a phenomenal speaker. Even though I’ve only “listened” to them through a moderately priced set of headphones on UA-cam… They are some of the most impressive speakers I have heard recently, for sure
An eclectic collection speakers in for a review in comparison. Bunching. That’s what I call it. Most enthusiasts have seen these speakers showcased. I like the results you have come up with. It’s honest and accurate. Plus…. I get to see all these speakers in a room. Now that’s some great Bunching!
Hi. What has the X1 over the S400 ll ? How much of an upgrade it would be? I am very pleased with the Bouchards. Beautifull sound powerded by a Naim Atom. Is the soundstage more precise ?🤭
I often think of the speakers of the past twenty years. Right from the millennium. Transducers and cabinets plus crossovers. We always look for the new offerings. We shed what we think are ‘outdated’. It’s a fickle industry. But we do enjoy the ride.
What happened to the diablos evo ? I read your review cause in getting a pair soon and i loved it, even when you say that you found a pair that you like more that the devils sq , but i find strange you had them dor a very short period of time.😢
They are the real deal. Recently visited a dealer with the intent of auditioning some Perlistens. Ended up leaving with Børresens instead. They are one of the very few product lines I’ve experienced throughout the years that actually lives up to the hype.
Wondering the same thing. And wondering if they have enough bass for a $5500 speaker or should I go for a floor stander. You can get used Focal Kanta towers or Perlisten R7t towers for about $6K. Would those be better than the Borresen?
If we notice that speakers have not the same sounding then at least some of them do not represent Hi FI. Because Hi fi suppose to sound so much real thet average listener can "see" event without actualy using eayes. We cannot call two soudings real - real sounding is one and it is recognizable only by ears. High End is of course another class but again High End maens nothing could be done better because it is already end. Both termins are used wishfully.
I would agree but it is also true that the ear and mind can adjust to different frequency balances. I also think - and I know this is a very orthodox view - that the term high fidelity only really makes sense if we (the engineers and the playback system) are trying to recreate a performance of real instruments in a real recording acoustic. In such a case we have our memories of real acoustic performances to compare to. Can I imagine being there if I close my eyes? If the "original" is born in the engineer's console then it really is just a question of taste if we like the sound.
Audio group Denmark is on a mission. They’re resetting the bar!
Thanks for this update. I'm looking forward to your review on the Børresen speakers!
Love comparisons. Everything is relative, but we need reference points we're familiar with. keep em coming.

I've had Maggie true ribbon speakers. Ribbons in the midrange and treble sound lifelike, 3 dimensional and very addictive

I really wanna hear the Borresen X1 and see how they compare to my reference ATC's.
Yup .. They were incredible at the Florida show.
Cool speakers all around.
Wow, that was a mouth watering teaser 🤤
Looking forward for the review of the Borresen

When you release the x1 review, please compare different amplification in addition to the Axxess class D amp. THX

Setting aside price, which would you choose between the Borresen/Axxess vs. the Buchardt A700LE for a variety of music set up?
Børresen making waves in the audio world. Im eyeing the X6.
Also wondering how the platimons would compare they seem to be peaking some interest

You ate right about the Borresen Bass. I'm surprised at how it sounds.

I would love to know how the source point 10 stacks up against those
They don't
Thank you.

Please do a Wharfdale Elysian 2 or 4.2 review soon!
It seems like the Borreson x speaker line is becoming the new hot thing reminiscent of Andrew Jones fame. Seems like Andrew's been out done!🤔🤫😳😎

I LOVE reviews of Audio Components LESS Than $10k
How do the X1 compare to Focal bookshelf speakers like the Sopra 1? I am considering an upgrade from Sopra 1 to X1 but don't know if it's worth it.

Do they come with gold bars inside the cabinets? 😅
