Hi from Germany, I built some OBs for myself and I had the same impressions like you and I will never miss that outstanding sound. Open Baffle for ever;; Greetings Ulrich
Hi have a pair of PAP duet15 which are my first OB experience and my word do these speakers have a big and expansive sound. It is such an easy speaker to listen to. I had a pair of Aperion AMT super tweeters lying around and integrated it with these speakers... wow wow wow the 3D holograpghic sound stage was simply stunning. The like these more than my Dynaudio Heritage Specials now.
Thanks for the review. How do they compare to the Qualio IQ you just reviewed? I’m interested in both so if you could keep just one, what is your preference?
Finally your review! I love mine with my Galion TS 120 SE but i've paired them with 2 Class D monoblocs Bel Canto 500m and the sound was surprising and different from very powerful amplifiers for so efficient speakers . Very clean and holographic sound in both cases. Violin, guitar and piano are amazing on them. The last album of Joe Hisaishi seems to have been made for them.
In some difficult rooms OB can be a solution. My room is small and HARD. Lots of concrete, minimal soft landings. And since it's shared space, no chance of room treatments. In the last 10 years I've had five or six different speaker systems. Then someone suggested OB. I bought the Linkwitz LXmini+2 with the Pass dedicated electronic crossover. The saws and jackhammers disappeared. BIG smiles!
I built a pair of troels Gravesend ob15 about 9 years ago and I've just not heard any speaker since that I want more. OK, they don't go low like a pair of pmc mb2 but they still go low enough, but it's the quality of bass that's astonishing. The timbre of the whole speaker is just right. Instruments sound like instruments rather than recording of instruments. You can really hear the cabinets on other speakers once you've experienced open baffles. You also seem to extract far more from your source components with these as well.
I own a pair of these. One of their greatest strengths is how consistent they sound no matter where you are in the room. Honestly, these sound great even when I'm in the other room. The tonal quality doesn't change drastically like most speakers when you are outside the sweet spot. They make great home theater speakers as well as hifi. A bit of advice though for anyone considering these, they need to be placed pretty far out into the room. Around 3-4 ft from your rear walls. Side walls you don't need to worry about though.
Love to hear them, they sound awesome - Sound is very personal, a speaker no matter how well built or expensive, may or may not excite you in some way, which has nothing to do with the speaker and all to do with our own auditory responses to a particular sound frequency.
heard them at cap audio fest. I wasn't blown away, but I gravitate towards speakers with detail, slam, and speed. these are more warm, relaxed, and chill.
Great review, I was looking at these for a time but living remotely I got cold feet. Any chance you will review any Graham Audio speakers, like the Graham LS 5/5 or the LS 8/1 ?
Try spacing the FR driver from the baffle by like 3mm to I cm in front of the baffle. It's reversible! I try many things like that on my speakers if it's reversible or just a matter of adding spacers. I even take this a step further by making cutouts on the FR cone to simulate an open edge cone. I do that to my 10" coaxials cos the open cone is so large and simulate a 4" cone and an 8" cone on the 10" cone. Way more control in the med and way less shouty, and more holographic!
I believe the break in is because the speaker surround needs the get more pliable from use if should be more efficient once it takes less power to produce sound
Was wanting a review from you. Your purchasing says a lot. My only open baffle is not really open baffle it is ESS Heil tweeters on ESS AMT 1 B's. Guitar Amps are open to the back. Like to hear your review of Spacial Audio or the designers new company.
Open Baffles do a whole Different Sound , a Beautiful Sound , but Growing up with the JBLs the KLHs and the HPMs the Sound isn't what I'm used to, so i Will Stick with my Spendor Classic 100s , a Little more pricey but its the British Rock Sound I Love, i will Give these a Close and Enjoyable non Fatiguing 2nd. Great Review
Hi from California! I’ve been using Linkwitz active Pluto 2.1+. After watching your reviews of PAP Duet 15 I’m wondering which amp I should be pairing with those OB speakers. Thanks in advance for your advice.
Large driver diameter does wonders and a 6.8 mh inductor on it would give it some punch. 😂 I would like to make speakers with a 15" boxed woofer and an open identical woofer and an open 10" coaxial on the top.

Great review. I appreciate your passion for audio and your straightforward, informative reviews. Keep up the great work!
I am a user of Pure Audio Project for (Trio 10 Voxativ) almost 7 years. Awesome speakers, love them every minutes.

I've been close to pulling the trigger on the MOFI 888's or the Focal Aria evo IV's but now I may need to rethink my options.

listening to Demos of the 2 speakers (on YT). i think the QUALIO-IQ especially the Ultra version sounds far better than the PureAudio speakers.. IMHO.
@@Thereznapinteresting-I have heard others say opposite….

Thanks for the review. Also, the James Gang reference; what a great album, I can listen to it straight through.

Open baffle loudspeakers have the sound quality of Magnepan and a cone type dynamic loudspeakers combined.
I love open baffle speakers as a concept, I've never tried some in my room, though. It would be great to see a number of open source designs for them.
I'm with you. Not crossed over to the OB dark side yet. They appear to require a lot of space which many don't have.☮️🇦🇺

I met the owner at RMAF back in 2014. A very nice guy indeed.

Great. We love it.
I'm baffled ... not! Been using Spatial Audio loudspeakers for some time now.

$1400 Singxer mono block amps. Great pricing.
Will you be doing a review of them?
More realistic outlay for many folks.

What Tidal music tracks do you listen to when reviewing audio gear.
Thanks for sharing
How does open baffle produce that kind of bass having no enclosure?
How do you compare them to Qualio IQ Ultra Speakers?

Are you reviewing the Nagra streamer soon?
"Electrocompagniet" is Norwegian, not French, so the "et" letters at the end are pronounced, as in "cigarette".
I will get back to you in 5 years and check you still have them.😮
They'll be gone in a couple of months
Lol no chance! 🤩
29 hz at -12 db maybe
Every time with you is the next best thing…. Hard to believe….moreover when I had the very same speakers on trial and I was unimpressed
🤑👍
Everyone’s setup, room and listening preferences are different.
Hard to believe …you tried these speakers.
Hard to believe…you think anyone cares about your opinion.
All that and didn't even let us hear how "silky" they are.....
"Duet 15 ExperieMce?"
its started after 23 hours , buble efect, etc....but not working before 23 am...
All Cpu must be the same power, another can run with lt 3045 s, same 5g router cpu!!!!
