- It was almost a quarter of a century ago. But we're thinking we have a lot of Motoring TV viewers who remember the Pontiac Sunfire.

I used to look in the newspaper, EVERYDAY as daily inspiration until I bought myself one after I graduated high school lol
My mom had one when I was a kid. I can smell the GM interior from here
The Sunbird was much nice looking than the Sunfire. My Mom had a 1994 Sunbird SE 2 door with the V6 and that car could move. She had it all the way up to 2007 with no major problems. Still says to this day it was the best car she ever had.
This was my very first car and it wasn’t known to be reliable. But mine was very reliable I drove it to 230,000 miles before selling it. It had the original engine and transmission. The only issue I had with the car was the alternator which I replaced twice. I had the 2.2 liter with 3 speed automatic.
Same here. My very first car was a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire that I bought used in late 2000 for like $6,000. I drove it up until 2011 and then sold it to my uncle so he could give it to his stepson as a first car. It was just a beater car that I used to get back and forth to work.
Blast from the past!
My uncle gave my mom and I a 1998 Pontiac sunfire and I'm trying to know when in 1995 was the release of this car to know about the life and death of this 90's classic
P. S. the first owner of the car is a mechanic
I had a 97 Sunfire GT coupe and modded it lol what was I thinking
i thought the GT was the bomb when I was a kid lol as my father had the reguler sunfire.
Why buddy keep driving over yellow line 💀
if and I say if...you she one of these on road now a days u gotta praise the owner for spending so much money to keep it running lol
just sold my sunfire for a modern car. It was the cheapest car to maintain that I ever owned.
My Sunfire has been on the road since 1997, and it's been very cheap overall to keep it running like a top.
Mines a 1998, maybe I’m just lucky, but it’s never broken down or had anything go wrong with it except the spark plugs once, and it still runs like it’s new. To bad rust is starting to get at it though.
I never like the sunfire look to much like a trans am I rather take the cavliver then the sunfire
I've always been the same way, not sure why.
PREACH
For me sunfire > cavalier. Like most chevys the cavalier looked bland imo
Cars like this are not worth repairing to keep on the road...
Nonsense. My very first car was a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire that I bought used in late 2000 for $6,000 and it only had around 70,000 miles on it when I got it. I drove it all the way up until 2011 and then sold it to my uncle so he could give it to his stepson as a first car. The reason I did that was because I inherited a 1996 Honda Accord from my grandmother shortly before she passed away.
I only had one "major" repair with it for the decade that I had it. It was a decent working man's car. That's all I used it for was to drive back and forth to work which was only 2 miles away from my house. I think maybe that's why I had it so long was because I wasn't doing any highway or city driving with it. It was totally worth the $6,000 I paid for it. Best money I've ever spent on a car.
Demolition Dude good to hear! My gf is a car killer. She destroyed my 2007 avalon and 2003 avalon. I told her that I’m not gonna get her anything more. She’s bidding on a sunfire with 77k miles on Tuesday.
@@AK-47ISTHEWAY the Sunfire is fabulous, i love it so much and im about to redo my brake lines
@@AK-47ISTHEWAY Sunfires can be very reliable cars if you keep up on basic maintenance. My grandfather bought one new from the dealership in 1997, and its been my first and only car since I got my license in 2012. She's still going strong and nearly rust free!
One of these least reliable cars EVER made, complete junk
Not at all. My very first car was a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire that I bought used in late 2000 for like $6,000. I drove it up until 2011 then sold it to my uncle so he could give it to his stepson as a first car. It was just a beater car that I used to get back and forth to work. I actually kind of miss it.
@@AK-47ISTHEWAY same here, had mine since 96 got her repainted and still runs like a champ
Guessing you NEVER owned one. I did. It was a great car and never let me down.
For the money they can be fantastic, if you find a good car
These are way better than the Cobalt/G5 that replaced it.
Garbage car, bicycle was better than this junk of metal !
It was actually a competitive product in 1995, though the 2.3 quad-4 engine was vastly more fun to drive than the 2.2. The problem is that the competition leapfrogged it within a few years with far better offerings and GM basically waited 7 years to even provide an interior update.
Really wasn't a 'bad' car, just bad value by the time 1998 rolled around. I still see an absurd number of them on the road.
I already posted this comment several times before, but I think I need to say it again. The Pontiac Sunfire was a decent working man's car. In fact my very first car was a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire that I bought used in late 2000 for $6,000 and it had around 70,000 miles on it when I got it. I kept it until 2011 because I inherited a 1996 Honda Accord from my grandmother so I just sold the Pontiac to my uncle so he could give it to his stepson as a first car.
I actually really miss that Pontiac. I just used it to drive back and forth to work which was only 2 miles away from my house. I think maybe that's why it lasted so long LOL I wasn't doing any major city or highway driving with it.
UGH!!! a clone of the Chevy Cavalier.
Well GMC did own Chevy and Pontiac... they were probably just rebranded Cavalier parts in that Sunfire
@@AK-47ISTHEWAY GM not GMC
Ugh, it's engine isn't reliable for long trips..... I hate it 🙄
Not true. I drove from New Jersey to Ohio and then back in one. 6 hours each way.
