Its been a God given grace to me that after 2 years of considering the catholic faith I am now a part of it , I love the church of Christ and I am willing to defend it despite the persecution I face in such an anticatholic nation as Greece , may Don Bosco pray for me that I will spread the faith in Greece
Thank you for this video. I came very close to converting from Catholicism to Orthodoxy last year. I decided to remain Catholic, I started praying the rosary and going to church every Sunday, and I am now very happy I remained a Catholic. God Bless Saint Don Bosco, Bishop Fulton Sheen, Bishop Richard Williamson and Dr. E. Michael Jones.
I grew up ukrainian catholic if you like the divine liturgy, the eastern catholic and orthodox divone liturgy (mass) is nearly identical, as well as its church architecture, icons, etc. The priests are wonderful
My father was Greek Orthodox and became Roman Catholic in 1952. He always said that by converting to Catholicism he's whole world opened up. One of my greatest memories was listening to my father, John Peter Fronimos, and author James Likoudis at a dinner describing their lives growing up Greek in America 1920-40s The love and devotion for the Greek Church, customs, and language was balanced out by the sometime narrow and xenophobic nature of the Church in that era. Xala Xristouiana 2024 Timothy Constantine John Fronimos (my mother was Irish American and Catholic)
Sad story, very sad indeed... At least the Greek Church retained valid Sacraments. We pray for their reconciliation and reunification with the Holy See during these end times! St. John Bosco, Pray for us!
Fraternal greetings from Tortona (Italy) where the great St. John Bosco founded his own institute where I attended school from the age of 3 to 13. St. John Bosco was always the saint of the poor and the least, but also a great man of intellect and culture. W St. John Bosco, the highest example of Christian virtue and witness of evangelical life. ✝️
I was in the same place as you. I even painted icons for nearly 10 years which should have made the decision simple to convert to Orthodoxy. However, I realized The True Magisterium of the Holy Catholic Church cannot be compared with the Orthodox Church. The teaching authority in the church is unassailable. Get on the barque of Peter, Jesus gave him the keys. Our Lady is also fully present in the Catholic Church through her apparitions. I do believe the Orthodox & many Protestants will come back into full communion with us in the Era of Peace that is coming (aka reign of Jesus through Mary, Eucharistic reign of Christ, Kingdom of the Divine Will).
The Orthodox have completely valid sacraments that provide salvation and in many recent Vatican statements they state that the orthodox are considered to be closer to the ancient tradition and don't need to change if recommunion ever happened; Id say become Orthodox because it's the more historic and safer option.
First pray to God and the Mother of God to guide you, visit and speak to some good catholic priests and visit (if not physically you can do it on line) Mount Athos. May God help you to the right decision.
Well Done. So much confusion today about where the Catholic Church stands in relation to the Schismatic Churches. Unfortunately Vatican 2's documents on Ecumenism have blurred these lines and caused so much ambiguity.
A historian named Dvornik wrote on the Photian schism giving a different history of the accounts that led to the schism. I’m no historian and would appreciate clarification on the matter. I’ve also read St Alphonsus on the matter and his opinion is in line with St John Bosco..
Dvornik was quite learned, but he treats the Ignatian sources as gossip. The problem with that is that Pope St Nicholas believed them. Dvornik also introduces a primary source, The Life of Euthymius, which says that St Ignatius resigned, which would exculpate Photius for intruding into the see of St Ignatius. He argues that Photius and St Ignatius were reconciled and that there was no second Photian schism. I am not vouching for all that, but I'm afraid that in the scholarly community Dvornik has almost a stranglehold on this subject.
@@ekklesiagigapanography1854Even today, Orthodoxy proclaims the Bishop of Rome in the See of St. Peter as the "First Amongst Equals" which in, and of itself, acknowledges a "First", and therefore a Primary. Quibbles over the level of dignity afforded that primacy are meaningly. The Primacy of the See of Peter is universal and permanent.
Agree. But what of the changes that have occurred to our Catholic Church since Vatican II? We need more saints like John Bosco to bring clarity back to the Faith?
Very poignant remark 👍🏻 V2 was a departure from the true Catholic Church. We can tell just from the breaking of the first commandment, as common prayer with not only heretics, but even pagans is promoted, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. It would be too much to write here, but I strongly recommend Novus Ordo Watch as an excellent starting point. There you will find definitive proofs with citations of authentic church teaching demonstrating the stark differences between the true Catholic Church and the V2 heresies and apostasies.
A subject we seldom hear much about. There is so much more to add, but it is enough to know that Schism from the Magisterial Authority of Christ's Holy Church is never the answer, no matter the problem.

I would like to hear what St. John Bosco says about The Catholic Church nowadays after Vatican II. Remember he lived at the time where the holy tradition was still well observed.
He would denounce heresy, without advocating schism. If you read his life, you'll see that there were unscrupulous popes and clerics even in his time too, trust me.
Vatican II inaugurated the great passion of the Church, but in her essence she is always the same, because the Depositum Fidei has not been altered and the Church's ability to deliver the sacraments is still exactly the same. This is because the smoke of satan has entered the Church, but as Christ promised us, the gates of hell shall never prevail against her.
@@kamilmurawski1136 As Saint Catherine of Siena wonderfully states: the Pope could even be the antichrist, but he still remains the Pope. Only God is above the pope, and therefore only God alone can judge the pope for how well he excecuted the job as the Vicar of Christ. As long as God allows it, it's absolutely NOT our authority to judge the pope or the clergy, but only to judge their actions, to pray for them and gently remind them the Truth of what the Holy Mother Church has always taugh if they are not leading the flock as they should. Vatican II is NOT a dogmatic council, but exclusively pastoral, as it explicitly states. The dogmas contained in the Vatican II documents were not defined by Vatican II, but were already previously defined. Our Lord promised us that the gates of hell shall NEVER prevail against His Holy Church, this is why the Depositum Fidei and the Church's ability to confer the life-giving Sacramanents are preserved, as they will forever be until Christ will conclude human history.
Please can anyone explain this: It's the Church of Rome that excommunicated the Eastern Church ... not the other way around!! Where did the Church of Rome get this "authority" to do this ...( to kick out the Eastern Church) ?? Politics aside, ... didn't this excommunication lead to breaking up of the body .. (one Church under Christ) ?? Can anyone explain this please ??
The Pope has the power to excommunicate the leaders of the Eastern Churches due to the authority he is granted by being the successor of Peter and the first among the Patriarchs. The Orthodox are actually correct in how the relationship between the Pope and other Patriarchs work as being first among equals, but they always omit what obligations they still owe to the first among equals. The main obligation is the recognition of communion between Churches. The Eastern Churches are allowed complete autonomy in how they operate to include how they select their new Patriarch. However, the Eastern Churches have to seek recognition from the Pope to be considered in communion with Universal Church. The Pope's removal of recognition and ability excommunicate a Patriarch comes from this authority. What's important is that the penalty only applies to the Patriarch. If that man reforms himself or a new Patriarch is selected and is recognized then that Eastern Church is back in communion with Rome. Around two dozen Orthodox and Oriental Churches have reconciled with Rome and are in full communion with the Catholic Church. Those Churches are even allowed to have their own theological and dogmatic difference from Rome as long as they don't go against an Ecumenical Council.
Christ instructed the Church to preach everything he taught (Matt. 28:19-20) and promised the protection of the Holy Spirit to “guide you into all the truth” (John 16:13). That mandate and that promise guarantee the Church will never fall away from his teachings (Matt. 16:18, 1 Tim. 3:15), even if individual Catholics might. As Christians began to more clearly understand the teaching authority of the Church and the primacy of the pope, they developed a clearer understanding of the pope’s infallibility. This development of the faithful’s understanding has its clear beginnings in the early Church. Saint Augustine succinctly captured the ancient attitude when he remarked, “Rome has spoken; the case is concluded” (Sermons 131, 10).
Just a partial thought, but given my limited understanding of history I’ve heard that the papacy has also gone through extreme periods of corruption in the way pontiffs were elected (thinking of the borgias), similar to Bosco’s point about the Patriarch. Always open to correction though. Great video!
You are correct. Roman Catholic Church is not without its own faults. John Bosco chooses to ignore those in his writing in the 1850s. This was long after the counter reformation in the late 1500s and early 1600s. Put quite bluntly this is BS.
Yes, this entire video sounds like PROJECTION. Also, St Photos the Great has been vindicated, accepted by the one church, and glorified as a saint all over the world. Don Bosco believed and taught historical lies. The bishop of Rome apologized for the previous bishop of Rome named Nicholas once Photos the Great was reinstated. Watch Peter Heers video on it dealing with the Photian Council (ecclesiology playlist video 5 I believe).
It gets worse than that. Several times there were multiple popes as in the Western Schism. Also the French King appointed several popes in the Avignon papacy. And yet here we are.
@@johnlowell8202 apparently you are COMPLETELY UNAWARE of UNAM SANCTUM and DICTATUS PAPAE. Or do you claim those popes were simply teaching what the first bishop of Rome Linus handed down? Please enlighten us as to how Linus and the third bishop of Rome Clement - who both worked with the Apostle Paul - taught UNAM SANCTUM and DICTATUS PAPAE.
The biggest issue that I have with all of our brothers is that we're not unified - I love all of our Apostolic Churches - we've been through enough together since 1054 and it's about time that we all reconciled. God is not happy when his church is divided. I will never call any Apostolic Church heretical, drifted apart sure but not heretical, that's reserved for the Prots. I get both sides of the argument but in order for both lungs to come back and breath as one we must put away our pride and together follow Christ. We're all pushing against the Holy Spirit and that's not a good thing. Our leaders must grow up and sit down for His sake, not ours... Pray that this happens sooner than later when it's too late. God bless you all!
The orthodox do believe in the divinity of the three personas of the Trinidad. The diference comes in the “filioque “ or the procedence… they believe the Holy Spirit only proceeds from the Father not from the son… They also have not accepted the New Dogmas our catholic church has declared after their schism
The Eastern Churches are under no obligation to accept those dogmas and vice versa. The Catholic Church fully acknowledges that the autonomous Churches are allowed to have theological and dogmatic differences as long as they don't conflict with what is in scripture and what has been established in prior councils. You can see this in the Catholic Church's own Cannon Law and its current relationships with the 23 Eastern Churches in the Catholic fold. The bar for reconciliation is much lower than most Orthodox know or want to admit. The real issue between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Churches today are the same as it was 1000 years ago, politics and power. The Challenge today is that the Catholic Church has continued to grow and prosper since the Great Schism, while the Orthodox Churches have floundered and declined. The Russian Orthodox Church is the only Eastern Church that has found significant success, but that Church was devastated under Communism and is still in the process of recovering. Reconciliation today would feel like a defeat to many Orthodox, and defeat is the most bitter pill to swallow.
The WHOLE POINT OF THE VIDEO is to repeat Don Bosco’s own words. Here is the link to the original Italian... Look under chapter 14: www.donboscosanto.eu/oe/il_cattolico_istruito_nella_sua_religione.php If you don't believe me, just throw it into Google translate. @@donboscostories Thank you for the swift reply, much appreciated. Perhaps wishful thinking on my part as i want to beleive he had some love for his orthodox brethren as I admire him immensly.
@biddyearly9262 I think you are confusing, mixing up Christ with Peter. It is the church of Christ, not the one of Peter. Besides, if you feel so tied to Peter, why don't you acknowledge his own gospel and you make references to the one of Matei / Mathhew? Also I urge you to study the concept of the mystical body of Christ. God bless!
I don't support SSPX, neither attend their churches. However, they are considered to be in an ‘irregular situation’ (whatever that means) with the Church if Rome. I don't have to be a teologian or religious to know that I wouldn't put my soul in an ‘irregular situation’ with the Holy Catholic Church. They will be the first ones to profess that salvation is only through the Catholic Church (which is a a different topic too long to discuss in here). Let's pray for unity and humility of heart in all of us. Blessed Lady of Fatima, pray for us.
Schism is for example refusal to submit to Roman Pontiff while recognising him as valid pope. Schism is also creating own parallel ecclesial structures without comunnion with valid pope and valid ordinary bishop.
To understand the sspx you need first understand that Vatican 2 changed Catholicism in liturgy, doctrine and discipline. Sspx recognise the Pope but refuse to submit to him. More correct option is that of Bishop Donald Sanborn.

As a Roman Catholic who left the western church and joined the Antiochian Eastern Orthodox, I was shocked at the historical inaccuracies presented in this video. Its sad that so many roman catholics believe this nonsense. There is no way the two will ever reunite when the western church keeps stepping away from the ancient truth that once united us.

@christsavesreadromans1096 care to give me a list of infallible statements? Or is something ex cathedra just whenever you find it convenient? Also many other popes besides Francis have made similar statements.
When you speak to Greek orthodox Christians, it sounds like catholics were the ones in error. Likewise when you hear from Catholics, it sounds like the orthodox Christians are in error. Please let's leave these fights in the past. I've been to both churches. It's shameful that we keep carrying small fights that are over 1000 years old.
I stand with the One, Holy, Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church: they are in Error. I also stand by the excellent research of Saint John Bosco. He was a paragon of virtue and studiousness (with a photographic memory).
@@BB-kt5eb Your statement is contrary to Catholic teaching on papacy. According to Catholic faith, Roman Church cannot defect, cannot teach heresy for entire Church, cannot lose the faith.
@@kamilmurawski1136 Well, the Roman Catholic Church approved numerous Marian apparitions that said Rome would lose the faith and the remnant would eventually be pushed underground by the ape of the Church that establishes itself within the Roman Catholic Church. Papal infallibility is contingent on several key factors, one of which being that no papal teaching, even if invoked ex cathedra is valid if it runs contrary to the long since established doctrines and dogmas of the faith as declared in unbroken record for centuries.
The last part is wrong, the catholics changed a lot. The sacraments are only with bred not with wine to, they filled the churches with statues like pagans, they even torn down crosses from theyr churches, they introduced orgue and a lot more innovations. The older catholics were more close to the byzantine rite, today is like a theatre play.

This is a slightly one sided view of history. Not entirely accurate either. Some of the things mentioned could also be applied to the RCC (especially about money buying positions). Obviously as a Catholic I agree that the Greeks are schismatic, but I think there needs to be a bit of a realisation that there was fault on both sides and that misunderstanding played a big part in the problem, not so much heresy.
"But because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold, nor hot, I will begin to vomit thee out of my mouth" (Apoc. 3:16). One is the true Church and the other is not. It's pretty simple.
@@donboscostories I agree with you. We are the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. But let’s be charitable and recognise our own faults (and maybe portray history accurately) then we might win our schismatic brothers back? If you seperate from the true Catholic Church then you're going to Hell, that's Catholic doctrine. We're discussing people's salvation here. That's impossible, you cannot have a saint that is correct in one time and heretical later on. I've never heard such balderdash. But just for the sake of argument, go ahead and prove that Saint John Bosco is a heretic, I'm waiting...
What a crazy revision of history. It was the Roman Church that changed the Creed. Are you seriously saying the Medici Popes where not installed due to Money and Power. Saint John Bosco was a great Saint, but to place this story as a serious explanation of the Schism is ridiculous. This dishonors both Catholicism and Saint John Bosco. By the way, did John Bosco have a cute story for the Papal Schism and why there were three Popes at the same time?
The Roman Church altered the creed *before* the schism and was entirely within its power to do so. The Orthodox have deviated here by rejecting an orthodox doctrine as a heresy. And Bosco’s point re: money wasn’t that we are free from sin and corruption; rather, that the Catholic Church on net has flourished much more than the Orthodox, who still do this day rely on the mayor of Constantinople to approve their patriarchal candidates. This doesn’t invalidate them, but it does beg the question: why did one Church colonise the world and spread the gospel to over a billion people whereas another languishes in Eastern Europe, ossified and endlessly subjugated by secular powers?

Yes, there is only one church and one faith. It is the Holy Roman Catholic Church founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ. Outside of her, there is no salvation! Heresy is a grave sin!
The account is very simplified and generalized understandably for a kids story, the East and west split on differences of doctrine related to the inclusion of the filioque. The East claimed the west added to what prior ecumenical councils agreed to. I find catholic arguments wanting in this regard and the EO seem to make better claims. However, I remain catholic because I believe in the words of Christ to St. Peter. Unless there’s a better defense, the EO will continue in their pride and claim they are the true church.
To separate from the Catholic Church because the Church desired to emphasize that Our Lord is of the same nature as The Father, (the filioque) is a false reason, a non-sense for anyone who knows the Scripture. The filioque is used to justify the evil of schism and make the Orthodox Church look good. The OC is fighting for its identity against the Truth. And that's insane. Because Truth should be its foundation.

I’ve read a lot about orthodoxy and there’s many errors they accept. 1. The papacy, obviously. Ironically this chapter has it a bit wrong: this became an objection later, it wasn’t at first. As their original objections (like azymes, beards) dissipated, this rose in prominence to justify their schism. 2. Purgatory. Now, some EO accept this, but many don’t-as like many things, their lack of magisterium makes them hard to pin down. 3. Their rejection of the beatific vision! St. Bosco was a big defender of the Pope. I think he would say love the Pope and pray for him. We also have to remember that having access to ‘everything’ the pope says and does is new. We didn't have this with previous pontiff's. Also, he is heavily scrutinized and what he says is taken out of context many times and when he clarifies it that doesn't get covered or spread in the media. Be careful, we need to love him and pray for him. The media (including some catholic media) is working for the destruction of the church (negative videos get more views than informative positive ones).

Dvornak was a Uniates, but after his research in his book The Photian Schism he converted to Orthodoxy.
As you also should do.

This content deserves an animator.

Please can anyone explain this:
It's the Church of Rome that excommunicated the Eastern Church ... not the other way around!! Where did the Church of Rome get this "authority" to do this ...( to kick out the Eastern Church) ??
Politics aside, ... didn't this excommunication lead to breaking up of the body .. (one Church under Christ) ??
Can anyone explain this please ??
I thought Don Bosco explained it pretty well.
It would've been great if you mentioned the 'filioque'!! This subject is way too important to ignore!
Everything I say regarding catechism from St. John Bosco is verbatim, regardless of what I think may be important. He's the catechist, not me.
A bright, sincere and compassionate man who grew up in a cult of religious belief and used it to help others.
Good grief! What would his reaction be if he could see the state of the Church today ?
There were already problems in Rome at his time, so we know that he would support the papacy while opposing heresy.
@@donboscostoriesFrancis does not hold the papacy.
@@deus_vult8111 if you're a Catholic you are now in grave sin.

You are correct. Roman Catholic Church is not without its own faults. John Bosco chooses to ignore those in his writing in the 1850s. This was long after the counter reformation in the late 1500s and early 1600s. Put quite bluntly this is BS.

While Catholic Church today rejects its own dogmatic teachings...

They [the Novatian heretics] have not the succession of Peter, who hold not the chair of Peter, which they rend by wicked schism; and this, too, they do, wickedly denying that sins can be forgiven [by the sacrament of confession] even in the Church, whereas it was said to Peter: ‘I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound also in heaven, and whatsoever thou shall loose on earth shall be loosed also in heaven’[Matt. 16:19]. - St Ambrose, A.D. 388

That's impossible, you cannot have a saint that is correct in one time and heretical later on. I've never heard such balderdash. But just for the sake of argument, go ahead and prove that Saint John Bosco is a heretic, I'm waiting...
The Catholic church yes, the Roman church never.roman church broke away from Catholic church, based on false doctrine in 1054.

✟
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
The account is very simplified and generalized understandably for a kids story, the East and west split on differences of doctrine related to the inclusion of the filioque. The East claimed the west added to what prior ecumenical councils agreed to. I find catholic arguments wanting in this regard and the EO seem to make better claims. However, I remain catholic because I believe in the words of Christ to St. Peter. Unless there’s a better defense, the EO will continue in their pride and claim they are the true church.
Everything I say regarding catechism from St. John Bosco is verbatim, regardless of what I think may be important. He's the catechist, not me.
@@donboscostories I think that simpler the explanation the better.
Well both Orthodox and Catholic churches claim that they are the true church. In that sense both churches have pride.
@@daglasan4285They can't be both true, because Truth and being are one. Therefore one church is a false church.

@@Starkiller_1 Pope aprove same sex couples blessing. Do You think Saint Peter aprove from heaven this blasphemy?
I’ve read a lot about orthodoxy and there’s many errors they accept.
1. The papacy, obviously. Ironically this chapter has it a bit wrong: this became an objection later, it wasn’t at first. As their original objections (like azymes, beards) dissipated, this rose in prominence to justify their schism.
2. Purgatory. Now, some EO accept this, but many don’t-as like many things, their lack of magisterium makes them hard to pin down.
3. Their rejection of the beatific vision! Palamas’ essence-energies distinction leads them to grave errors here.
4. Original sin! Many EOs are orthodox on this subject, adhering to Nicea II’s acceptance of canon 110 of Carthage. But many are not.
5. Contraception and divorce. They’re very wrong here.
6. Immaculate conception. Most EOs reject this.
7. Soteriology. I lean towards Thomism which they definitely would usually reject.
8. Perhaps one of the most important: their dogmatic rejection of the Filioque, an orthodox doctrine which they are bound to uphold because of Florence.
Overall, the EOs are wrong on many subjects doctrinally. They’ve preserved their outward traditions well, but they’re internally divided and have adopted many heresies.

We may not all agree with the way one Pope governs compared to others, but that doesn't mean that they are heretics.
