I think the advanced exercise doesn't require that much skill from the instructor. When I was learning basic defence we would switch roles and attack/defend from different directions. There's also an exercise in which you keep your eyes closed until your partner shouts and follows with an attack immediately after and it was still used at the "noob" level

I would not want to get in a real Sword fight. The outcome may not favor Me. I don't like the idea of getting skewered and or slashed.
