It really blew my mind. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! (I am currently working on my dual Revelation Space / Chasm City video review at the moment.)
“Revelation Space” is the first book in publication order, then “Chasm City”, though “Chasm City” is set before “Revelation Space”, and there are some short stories set before “Revelation Space” as well. I also think that “The Prefect” (aka “Aurora Rising”) is set prior to the events of “Revelation Space”, but I’ve not gotten there yet and cannot confirm. When in doubt I typically just go with publication order. 😅
You need to decide if you are rating on literary relevance or enjoyment....seems like you are afraid to put stuff above "objectively" "better" novels when you enjoyed them much more. I personally don't care about "objectively better"....let me know which you enjoyed more....95% of everyone reads for enjoyment and not to dive deep into the nuances of what is the best literature. And if you are one of those, thats fine, you just need to pick one of those sides and not try to sit the fence between the two, it doesn't really work. Great stuff though, you have a new subscriber!
This criticism is totally fair. As an English teacher, I find it difficult to completely divorce my opinion of a book from its literary merit. Indeed, this is why I try to let viewers know how much I enjoy a book while also evaluating its literary value and then weighing both considerations for a final rating. Admittedly, I could probably stand to give a book’s literary value less weight, though. Thanks for the thoughtful comment!
You got me excited to read Revelation Space. It's on my tbr for this year. Awesome video. 👍

So what is the reading order for Revelation Space...I see a 0.1 and a 0.2 then 0.3, then finally 0.5 is Chasm City and 1.0 is Revelation Space
