Maggie Stiefvater purposely doesn't tell you where Thisby is located to make it seem more magical. I'm so happy you enjoyed The Scorpio Races because it's one of my absolute favorite books!
OMG I'M SO HAPPY YOU LOVED THE SCORPIO RACES 😭😭 i was kinda scared when you mentioned it at the beggining lmao but the fact that you liked it makes me so happy because it's one of my fav books 💞 also, yeah i adored this format, i love the concept of you taking in consideration your followers' recs !!
I literally cannot believe I’ve only just found your channel, Chandler! Already obsessed with the content. On the upside, I’ve got a long line of videos to binge now.
OH THANK GOD YOU LIKED THE SCORPIO RACES. I adore that book so much and im so so happy you liked it too!! Omg and u even compared them to Anne and Gilbert!!!! Ugh your amazing.
my fave series ever are the illuminae files!! its so interesting and a great example of scifi writing, and the fact its presented in a compilation of files keeps it engaging and fun to read. 100/10 reccomend!
Chandler you are one of my favorite booktubers and every time I watch your videos I realize that you're always honest with your reviews which make for great entertainment.
I'm currently reading a book called, "Quiet Screams to the Quiet Healer," that came out in January. It's a self published book, and I think it's really sad very few people have read it as it's a very beautiful story.
Everything you said about A River of Royal Blood was EXACTLY how I felt about it. I couldn't stand the romance (and honestly preferred the teacher lmao) I gave it 3.5 stars though because I really loved the whole magic system and all 💙 Definitely picking up The Merciful Crow and The Scorpio Races now ❤
The scorpio races is just a magical little book! One of my all time faves! I reread it every November and I take my time to read it through out the month!
first of all, love that we’re grey sweatshirt twins in the reading vlogs second, i’m so right there with you for the rating. i think because i don’t really read a lot of romance, the insta lust didn’t really bother me, but i totally see why it would be a turn off. i thought it was definitely something new and super fun, and i liked that the main character was actually written like a young adult novel mc, not a new adult mc forced into the YA setting for marketing reasons!
I really love that you are not afraid to read books that you might not have picked up on your own...I never do that and only read Fantasy and Romance but I really want to go over my comfortzone
Emma Mills’ books are sooo underrated. This Adventure Ends, Foolish Hearts, and Famous in a Small Town are all quality reads tbh. The way she writes contemporaries is exactly everything I want- there’s romance but it’s not the whole plot of the story, there’s strong friendships, there’s a lot of funny banter that reminds me of stuff I’ve said with my friends.. every single character has a personality and they’re all so fun to read about
I am sooooo beyond happy you mentioned Beautiful Boy. It is SUCH a great depiction and story of addiction and how it affects families. The movie is pretty freaking great too. This was a GREAT video, such a good concept!! I just love all your ideas 😍 and The Scorpio Races is ♥️♥️♥️♥️ love that you loved it!!!!!!
I really enjoyed this video. I think 1 video that would be interesting is to read the first 5 books Goodreads, Google, or Amazon recommends to you from your favorite books. Under the Readers also enjoyed (goodreads) or Customers also bought (Amazon) sections
Midnight at the Electric! Has sci-fi, cute af historical romance (no time travel), and general sappy feels. I looooove this book and know no one else who has read it.
I had the same reaction to The Scorpio Races a few years ago (actually, I've had that reaction to all of Stiefvater's books, most of which I have wound up adoring), but I love it when I see anyone else who loves it. You might also like All The Crooked Saints for the same reasons, but that one is admittedly more divisive (and was written when she was sick). But I also liked this format! I'd never heard of the first few books before this, although I'm definitely bumping The Merciful Crow up my TBR list.
Just found your channel, and enjoying it so much! Thank you! I think for another video, it would be really interesting if you went back to your recs spreadsheet and picked the ones you got the -least- recommendations for; that would be the really, really underrated/under-the-radar picks.
I was really excited when I saw the Scorpio Races! I’m so glad you loved it! I loved the way the author described things and I honestly felt as if I was there with the characters.
An underrated all time favorite book of mine is called “Cupid’s match” it has so much action and a little bit of romance and questioning of your identity and the right thing to do. I HIGHLY recommend it.
the scorpio races is not a book that i thought i'd ever pick up but now i feel like i need to? also bummed to hear you didn't love the last magician. that's a book that i've been so excited for ever since i bought it. loooove this type of video! i really like seeing people read books outside of their normal genres. :)
I love The Scorpio Races so much I reread it almost every fall since it came out. The atmosphere and the way the island is almost a character in itself is just *chef's kiss*
Radiance by Grace Draven is one of the best examples of a Beauty and the Beast kind of inspired story I've read I really think you should read it. It has both characters being viewed as the beauty of the respective people and the Beast of the opposite people. It's an arranged marriage with a lot of politics involved and some very good romance building.
I love this! Taking books we love to give a try. I have had The Merciful Crow in the back of my mine to give a try for awhile sooo I may need to move it up my TBR! Fabulous video as always 🤍🤍🤍
Came here for your Heroine review! I do agree with that flaw you mentioned, however, it did not bother me. This was the best YA book I read last year. For me personally, I also played softball in high school and struggled with chronic pain, so this book spoke to me on an emotional level.
I suffer with chronic pain too and it's so easy to slip. I also have a close family member who struggles with addiction and it was just sad to see the resemblance of addicts. But I think if you dont have any connection to addiction or chronic pain it's hard to like.
One of my favorite books ever is The Steel Crow Saga by Paul Krueger that came out last year. It's a standalone fantasy and it's amazing -- it has a lot of representation without it feeling forced, and has a setting based on Asian countries which was refreshing and much easier for me to keep things straight without being bland. I loved all the characters right away as well, which is really hard to do for me. I've heard no one talk about it, which is a shame. I dnf'ed the Last Magician. What ruined it for me was Harte and Esta's relationship. I found myself shipping her and Violet, as Harte and Esta's relationship felt so secretive and fake and like it'd never work because of the lies. Harte also got worse instead of better. He was selfish. Violet and Esta could've been a slow build throughout the entire series and make up for the death of the ONLY love interest for the oNly LGBTQ character. Which felt cheap and gross.
I was so relieved that you liked Scorpio Races, I got so nervous the whole video that you'd hate it lol. Definitely recommend it for a October/November read. The mood is just, ugh, fantastic
Ha! I KNEW you'd like The Scorpio Races! Lol. I'm so glad you finally read it. I need to reread it, but I'm waiting until November because both of the other times I've read have been in the summer, I think ??? It's on goodreads somewhere so I don't have to remember it.
An underrated book I’ve never seen anyone talk about on booktube or in the book community is ‘ultraviolet, by RJ Anderson, been one of my favs since I was young teens and still is now I’m in my 20’s the love interest is slightly taboo a psych ward teen and her psychiatrist, but it’s not about mental health really in an angsty way and is more a mystery book with an unexpected twist and I just want everyone to read it lol
I relate to the feelings you had about The Last Magician so hard, because I just recently tried reading Eleanor & Park and this is exactly how I felt about it.
Ok, when you said Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe, I was thinking...maybe Scorpio Races could be a book that I would like as a movie, and I hope would be adapted as faithfully as possible. I don't know why I have that feeling, but I just do. Also excited for Merciful Crow, I think that's a very unique concept or well, new to me. The Last Magician and River of Royal Blood sounds like books that I might like at the beginning but would leave me, I don't want to say disappointed, but something along those lines. And Heroine, when I read the reviews on that I stayed faaaarr away. I was actually surprised that you picked it up. Anyway, great video! I'm glad I finally got ads because I don't know how else I could show my support. I'm a new subscriber, and I've been bingeing your videos since yesterday. :)
WOO i’m glad you liked the last two bc i was getting concerned lmao. the merciful crow is something i’ve wanted to read since it came out; maybe this will give me the extra push i need 🥰
Another great video! I'm a new sub and the amount of books your read is just mind-blowing to me. Do you have any tips on how to read more books? Wishing you the best!
The Dark/Spark series by James Alan Gardner is the mosat underrated series of all time!!! Only two books have come out this far “all those explosions were someone else’s fault” and “they promised me the gun wasn’t loading”. But we have a diverse cast of 4 main characters but in terms of race, personality and gender. It finds the perfect balance between a serious sci-fi / Urban fantasy story but simultaneously poking fun at all the cliches in the story. A breath of fresh air and I would dare to say it is my favourite series of all time! (I even wrote to the author on goodreads when I finish the first one begging him to say it would be a series so I could get a book from each “main characters point of view”
Yes! I am not the only one who dislikes The Diviners. It was just boring. I can understand why people love it, but it just wasn't for me. Exactly how you described the Last Magician. By the way, great video! One of my underhyped faves is *Embrace* by Jessica Shirvington.

Pleasee read the land of stories series by Chris colfer. It's a middle grade and it was also the books that got me into reading at first, I reread the entire series 12 times, the entire thing and everytime I think back on it I just wanna cry because it was soo good!!! But, no one talks about it. Idek why.
very under hyped *dark wild night* from the wild seasons series by Christina Lauren MY GOD MY HEART CANT HANDLE HOW BEAUTIFUL LOLA AND OLIVER ARE TOGETHER
Ugh I just Looove the whole series and all the couples. For me personally I think Mia and Ansel are my favorite but I think that's just because I listened to it as an audio book and the speaker did such a good job with his accent 😍
I LOVED The Merciful Crow! But unfortunately felt similarly about A River of Royal Blood, I thought it started off interesting with a lot of potential but didn’t end strong.
the most underrated book(s) I know is the hawk of may series by Gillian Bradshaw. Idk what it is about those books but they get to me like nothing else and they were so so so inspiring for me for some reason. I think I was extra into them because I'm autistic and arthurian legend (which is what those books are about) is my special interest but even if that wasn't the case I think I would've still loved those books
This was such a GREAT video! 😂 I haven't read any of these books either so it was great hearing your opinion, you should definitely continue with all the other recommendations
The last magician sounds very similar to the discover of witches tribology. Have you read them? It's now a tv series in Amazon Prime which I watched prior to reading the books. I really like it so far, but the premise is suspiciously similar to discover of witches by Debrah harkness
Amos Oz - Between Friends is probably the least know from my faves. It is really good, made me really sad and then strangely calm, and is written on the level that makes me think that all of it really happened. Except for that one person wouldn't be able to see things from many perspectives.
I'm not a big reader but I loved the book flipped, it has two main characters and it's a teen thing, I went on Google and it said 95% of people liked the book
How crazy I watched this video having never heard of Scorpio races and an hour later I’m in a charity shop and I stumble across the Scorpio races and of course I had to buy it!

Ever since I read Scorpio races I've been terrified of horses. I don't wanna say it's Maggie Stiefvater's fault but maybe a little
I recommend Maurice, it is a gay romance written in 1913, incredible for it's time. But i barely see people talking about it
The Scorpio Races feels like the book that was always in Maggie's heart, just waiting to be written. It's so magical and lovely. One of my favorites!
I literally cannot believe I’ve only just found your channel, Chandler! Already obsessed with the content. On the upside, I’ve got a long line of videos to binge now.

The Last Magicians cover reminds me of an evil Neverending Story cover.
I had absolutely no intentions of reading The Merciful Crow or The Scorpio Races but guess what I just added to my TBR 🙄
ive seen the Scorpio Races around but haven't had a good history with the author so ive been hesitant to pick it up .. glad to see you loved it
StarlahReads what happened with the author?
@@fionatastic0.070 I just haven't enjoyed anything I've read from her
StarlahReads cool cool I thought there was tea haha
I'm SO glad you enjoyed the Scorpio Races 😫
The last magician sounds very similar to the discover of witches tribology. Have you read them? It's now a tv series in Amazon Prime which I watched prior to reading the books. I really like it so far, but the premise is suspiciously similar to discover of witches by Debrah harkness
it's quite different given the different time periods/magic systems
I always have to check the playback speed when watching your videos :) also, you are lovely and thanks for the recommendations :)
So glad you loved Scorpio Races!
Amos Oz - Between Friends is probably the least know from my faves. It is really good, made me really sad and then strangely calm, and is written on the level that makes me think that all of it really happened. Except for that one person wouldn't be able to see things from many perspectives.
I LOVE THE SCORPIO RACES! ONE OF MY FAVS
an underrated one kind of if you speak Spanish is el Principe del sol and the sequel la ladrona de la luna
Scorpio races! Yes, one of my favorites books ever
really fun video! this made me want to reread the scorpio races 🥺 also you saying the characters reminded you of anne and gilbert is a Mood
