You build more hull in 11 min then I have in the last 3 hours lol
Remember : When in doubt, ALWAYS SHAVE !

Love this! As someone who struggles with knowing which pieces is supposed to with which, videos that show every step and part selection are EXTREMELY helpful! Far too many "beginner tutorials" build the floor of their ship, and then fast forward through all the transition pieces and offsets.
Good to hear! That's kinda why I'm making this, I have previously done exactly what you've described: fast-forwarding over certain parts. 😅
WOW! In just the first 11minutes I've learned way more than I thought I would learn in the whole video! Yeah, I'm super new--only just done the many tutorials, a little free-build, and watching several YT channels (caught you on Lathland) and thought I had a reasonable good grasp on ship building...but wow, SOOO many handy tips. Also, I was pretty lost on building bows so that was amazing!
Edit: Also, watching someone who has been doing SO MUCH of this giving "idiot-proof" tips/tricks, it'll really help me not feel so bad when I spend 2hrs trying to figure out why things aren't working.
Yay! Glad to hear it! :D
Have you watched JustaWrench guide on shipbuilding? I think it's great and can help a lot as well
Would love to see more videos like this. Different ships for different purposes, as well as planes, fighter jets, helis, space ships, subs, missile design, etc!!!!!
There is something so chill about a build video.. aaaah. Feels good
I'd love to see an improved aircraft tutorial. I really want to make a high quality fighter that can beat the steel striders.
I have been struggling to make a good front for my crafts for so long, THANK YOU for making this so comprehensive
I tend to use Heavy Armor 4m Slopes around key locations as a combination airgap; spall liner; and AC booster. I like to think it works pretty well!
i personally use the 3m, 2m and 1m transition slopes to round out the front of the bow. But pointy also works.
rounding it out using the shorter slopes also can help slightly with your ship being extremely long.
this was amazing. I loved the commentary explaining why you were doing things the way you were. I can tell you definitely have some talent in designing ships!
Thank you! I've had a lot of practice at least. 😄
If you are looking for a budget method of EMP protection, try using an HA block and AI connector (27 mats total). Make sure the AI connector is not connected to anything else! Since EMP pulses can't backtrack and take the path of least resistance, this will cause any incoming EMP pulse to break one AI connector and the remaining damage is discarded.
That's actually a really cool idea!
while that sounds great it sounds like something the devs would change soon
@@NeonBeeCat Personally, I think this should be expanded on, like a new block that's cheap and not good as armor but easily routes EMP to where you want it to go, and hardware that converts EMP damage to useful things like battery and laser charge.
@@oventoaster955
We already have surge protectors, though?
@@Mernom A 2m surge protector costs 200. An HA block+AI connector is 27. Since EMP can't backtrack, having an EMP blast hit one of these will cause a dead end.
The armor plates for whatever reason have stupid amounts of float. The metal plate has more buoyancy than even wood.
Always loved your voice and the tutorials, keep up the good work❤
Super helpful and gave me a few ideas, I've been building mine by making a shell by hand then adding the citadel in after, also most my walls were like 2m thick so imma update it
Took me 3 hours to follow the steps thoroughly, also got some intuition.
This video series is going to help me so much. I haven't played in years.
Maybe you should add a line of block going through the middle of the wet block so it can be separated so if there is a list you can pump out water one one side to balance the ship
Damn this was really fun to watch, thanks!

Ok, so first suggestion... Increase the dimensions to allow for at least 2 layers of rubber in the following locations:
1- Behind the armor belt
2- Just above the double bottom
3- Just under the main deck armor
In addition, allow for at least 1 layer of rubber on each side inside the citadel armor. This is to protect against EMP...
Gotta love the snowrunner music
Checkerboard pattern is best with wood and stone for lots of cheap bulk and health for cheap with significant AC boost. The idea is to maximize AC bonus and HP per material cost.
Metal/Alloy checkerboard pattern isn't bad, but doesn't provide any significant AC bonus/HP per cost advantage.
Those materials work best layered normally, like a sideways Alloy sandwich on Metal bread. Metal on the outside and inside, Alloy in between. Much less stressful to build, also!
I mean, alloy/metal checkerboard is pretty good, my best ship has it, but I've recently learned that the checkerboard pattern is really meant specifically for wood/stone.
I remember I heard something about the wood and metal checkerboard. I was something about HE buff that made this style of armour slightly worse than just one layer of wood and one metal so on... Not sure though
@Joona Lehtinen You say you're not sure? Well, that's okay. No one is "sure" of anything in FtD, not even people who have over 2000 hours of experience.
Even certified experts such as B-wise, Gmodism, Ohms, and others can only speak from personal experience and community consensus. Everyone's personal experience is different, and the community is constantly changing its opinion.
We're all just doing our best!
This video made me realize why all your hulls look the same
My best ship was a jetski style with 2 rockets in front and 8 small anti missile missiles. This was long ago, things have changed since I last played this game... so many years ago.
as you said the checkerboard is controversial. i think alternating layers would be better then checkerboard because of the bonus explosives get in close spaces. so i dont want to give the enemy a weakness in the armor to get that bonus damage
Im so damned thankful for this video thank you so much good sir! Saved me a-lot of headache 😂😂
Yay! You're welcome! 😁
Watching this video shows me all my flaws in my ships awesome vid
For those who want to use an Heavy armour Belt. You can utilise different systems. but a good hull design is always better.
my best ship was a 600.000 materials battle crusier with 460mm guns. it could go 45m/s which made it not require lots of armor. and strong ciws shot down most dangerous shells and missiles.
it could even defeat 3 crossbones at once by itself
i wing it on every single block
I won't be able to run this Hull if I were ever to make it in my PC. XD
You know the game is good when you have to watch hours of tutorials to make a machine... Only for it to be destroyed in the second encounter.
Yup. 10/10, the game of all time. XD
Has anyone ever told you that you sound very similar to zoidberg from futurama on occasion (not an insult, just thought it was neat)
No. That's a new one! Most people say I sound like The Spiffing Brit. XD
5:05 Borderwise giving dating advice... "when in doubt, always shave"
Wow. When the smeg did they add this prefabbing stuff in? Being able to cut and past sections has never been in this game but it definitely makes construction so much faster now a days. Even the fill command that's new. This would take me days to build a hull a few years ago in this as it was completely brick by brick placement other than the mirroring mode.
The added that ages ago, but yes. It makes life much, much easier. :)
Noob here(250 hours and I still think I’m a noob lol) but isn’t that a lot of armour even for a battleship? My latest design had 10 meter thick(including air gap) armour and had 16*16 guns(somewhere close to that) and it’s fairly cost effective(able to defeat things 100k mats more than it at max,SS designs)it did have lots of lams though
It looks like a lot of armour, yes. But Godly Neter designs (and workshop craft) often have weapons that can tear through a dozen metres of metal with little effort. Unless your craft is very fast and/or has excellent active defence I'd say 4m of armor (not including gaps and the citadel) is the bare minimum, and a BB definitely needs more than that.
@@BorderWise12 yeah,LAMS on this are pretty beefy.Maybe to the point that it’s inefficient but I love them so who cares.
Will you be making advanced guides for weapons too? I tried to come back to this game but couldnt figure out the new building
Yup! This series will cover every weapon type as we go along. 😁👍
@@BorderWise12 what this thing needs is 3 barrel turrets and one massive cram battery and maybe a giant laser
@@BorderWise12 im looking forward to new tutorials! theyre all simply lovely
What is that hollow bit at the bottom for? It sounded like you were calling it a "wet gap" but i might have been mishearing. Is it just for armor spacing like you have on the sides, or does it serve another purpose?
There's three reasons I do it:
1. Torpedo proofing. It helps keep explosions just a little bit further away from vital components.
2. Ballast. If you're using air pumps, a wet gap is very helpful in keeping a ship stable.
3. Connecting extra systems. Having a gap in the bottom is great for adding on torpedo interceptors, laser transmitters and so on. 👍
@@BorderWise12 Awesome, thanks! After this series, I'd love to see you do some submarine specific videos!
...damn. I tend to build way to small I think. For me, a 60m ship is a large one, w/ 2m armor being a lot.
Noice
This tutorial is mostly nice but I don't understand what blocks were used around 7:23 for the bottom, which is a bit annoying because im struggling to find the right block for it right now
Slope corners and inverted slope corners. You'll find 'em next to the regular slopes. 👍
@@BorderWise12 wow that was a rather quick response, I eventually used something else that worked too but thanks. Love the rest of the series too tho, having tidbits of knowledge for all types of systems really helps.
Would have been super useful if you kept the HUD up during trhe building process, it shows what blocks you have selected in the HUD and as a beginner with little knowledge of the block shapes, I am struggling to follow this as I'm not sure what blocks you're switching to half the time when you use your hotkeys. I give up.
Good point, sorry. That did not occur to me.
Having the same issue, I don't understand what transition block he used to build under the bow/stern
my cursor wont show up on prefab mod
Click the middle mouse button. That should do it. 👍
