There are very high tech drones now that can fly in much closer to the action and can go in to places where even helicopters can't go. How many of these drones could 6 million buy? So much more bang for the buck. With the technology we have available today, drones have so many more advantages with helping police on the ground do their jobs more effectively.

what was wrong with the last helicopter? Could the "new" equipment not have been adapted for the last one that was already paid off? i find it extremely hard to believe the previous helicopter couldnt fly in "adverse" conditions. just seems like the easier way to justify the purchase to tax payers
@@Chris-fq4xz that cleetus guy just had a whole helicopter refurbished... doubt it cost him 6 million. obviously different bird here but im not buying it. oh wait, the tax payers are... ffs
The previous chopper was made in 1973 and as aircraft age the need for maintenance becomes more critical. And it's not a job that anyone can do. It's not like taking a 72 Chevelle under the tree and changing spark plugs, checking the brake fluid, putting in a new Walmart air filter and battery, and doing an oil change on your own. Certified, competent aircraft mechanics must perform the maintenance, and within specified hours of ship service. AND the parts have to be approved for use. They can't go to Big Lots and buy, then install, a chrome shifter handle on their cyclic control handle. At the age of that aircraft, the required maintenance would have cost more than the helicopter is worth. "i find it extremely hard to believe the previous helicopter couldnt fly in "adverse" conditions." Well, that's what we call a "YOU" problem. The ship itself must be of a type certified for IFR flight (Instrument Flight rules) and not VFR (Visual Flight Rules). Then you need to have a pilot who is certified for IFR. Really, stick to old cars, Spray-foam and Marvel Mystery Oil.

@@elfin1358 Drones have significant limitations that make them ill-suited to fully replace manned aviation in law enforcement. First and foremost, drones rely on batteries that need frequent recharging or replacement, severely limiting their ability to conduct long missions. In contrast, helicopters can operate for extended periods without such interruptions. Furthermore, there is an undeniable advantage to having a physical presence in the air. A human pilot has a comprehensive view of the terrain and can navigate obstacles far better than a pilot relying solely on a screen. Manned aviation excels in versatility and adaptability; for instance, a helicopter can seamlessly transition to search and rescue operations at a moment's notice. Additionally, the psychological impact of a manned aircraft cannot be overstated. Criminals are far more likely to surrender when they see a helicopter overhead, as opposed to a small, less noticeable drone. The presence of a helicopter commands authority and enhances deterrence. In summary, the differences between manned aviation and drones are profound and significant. Manned aviation will not be replaced any time soon; it remains a vital and irreplaceable asset in police operations.
