- Why are Torpedoes Wire-Guided?
Guidance Wire For TorpedoesThe guidance wire acts as a medium for communication of data between the torpedo and the firing platform (ship or a submarine}. The wire is also a medium for communicating data for the guidance of the torpedo towards target during its underwater run.

So I do want to ask because it's a wire could it be detectable because it could be like an antenna?
Radio antennas work by emitting radio waves that go everywhere, which means they can be (1) detected, (2) and even scrambled by the enemy. Wires (or cables) work by carrying the signal over their own bodies, which means that it cannot be detected or scrambled without physical connection.
