22 years in the Navy. 13 of which was on subs. Each and every man on those boats was smarter than the average bear. Every man was a brother and could be counted on to his job flawlessly.

Looking back at life as an old retired non military, I regret not having the guts to join the Navy. I didn’t swim. Pretty sure the sub guys are expected to at least swim. So when I say that my family and I are very grateful for your service and all those who serve. Where I worked, we were pissed if we had bad paper cut.

9:52 I served on a nuclear submarine tender in Guam back in 1973. Boy, things have progressed since then, starting with women serving on board subs. Most civilians don’t realize that the US has mobile nuclear missile launch platforms patrolling the globe 365 days a year. This serves an incredible deterrent to Putin should he do something stupid. This makes each $4 billion sub worth every penny! We should all rest easier knowing this fact.

In 1965 we were in a Japanese port drinking when shore patrol quickly rounded us all up to escape to our ship. The locals were upset about a nuke sub in port. I'll never forget, as our little shuttle boat was gliding along about midnight, that we came upon the sub, and what an Erie sight it was. It was like a sea creature lurking for prey. Today the Japanese welcome our subs but it was a whole different experience back then.

Not sure I would last for careers, and mentally and physically so rigorous, but I'd SO love to give it a whirl for a few months. I've worked with several submariners and have heard some amazing stories - then you watch a video like this and it's hard not to get a little giddy...

@ 1:11...word to anyone narrating a documentary about submarines. Submarines are always referred to as "Boats"....not "Ships".

God. People can't eat a submarine. 4 billion bucks? And this is what they call the national debt. I call it criminal. When are we going to learn to live together in peace.

I'm way in favor of cutting the military budget, and spending better what we keep, but I wouldn't stop buying top notch submarines.

But based on the way the world is currently, it’s necessary to have these and other deadly machines unfortunately…

One thing's certain, the Russians' subs don't come anywhere near for reliable, safe and effective subs and a highly trained crew with good morale.

What procedures occur when the submarine is on mission and a seaman has virus symptoms, fever and other issues? How do you prevent spread? Thank you all for your service in the best navy in the world. 🇺🇸👍

My nuclear sub was constructed with carbon fiber and a used septic tank. The reactor propells dual nerf propellers and I control it with an old Atari joystick.

Life aboard a $4 billion U.S. nuclear submarine is a blend of advanced technology, rigorous routines, and unique challenges. Despite the physical and psychological demands, the crew members form a resilient and close-knit community, united by their mission and the trust they place in one another.
