An Exceptional Day at Wigan - 17 September 2012

- This was like no other Monday I can remember at Wigan, with "proper" trains galore :)
This video features only two sheds, the rest are classics with 2 Class 37s, a Class 31, a Class 33 and even a HST in the form of the New Measurement Train... While there are actually few movments this clip is about quality and not quantity, especially given how the pair of 37s had to pull into Wigan North Western for a "Pie Break" before heading to Springs Branch and back through Wallgate...
Since I only knew about one train at the start of the day it has made the job of compiling the workings rather difficult and patchy at best. With regard to the 1Q14 I have put in the actual moves rather than the gernal "from & to" given it is included four times :)

Thanks to the guys on 37667 for the tone and the driver of 31601 for the musical toneage :D
As you can see the first shot is hardly a pulitzer winner given how the points changed at the last minute (you can see them switch in the clip), the shot of the Growlers departing for Springs Branch was immaculatley timed with the sudden downpour arriving the instant the brakes came off... Oh well.
Best enjoyed in 1080 with the sound up.
Never disappoint mate. Top stuff. The Tractors came through Wigan after i left with the 1420 to Man Vic. Were totally annoyed
Excellent stuff Phill I caught the 37s that day tho missed the HST with with chasing the 37s back too Liverpool. Caught the 33 and 37 same time on Winwick Junction :) ..... Liked
Cheers mate, the HST and the 31 were complete surprises we all found out shortly before as some gen filtered through.
Thanks mate, I can remember when 31s were hauling most services around this area and instead I spent most of my time looking at shiny new units... Oh to wind the clock back.
Cheers mate, they only have the one 125 set, though they have 3 power cars and just rotate them as required. I had a look in the mark 2 carriages when the 37s stopped and it is still a fairly complete intercity interior complete with "swallow" motif on the internal doors.

I got the 37s the next day making quite a bit of noise :D I admit I prefer them making a racket too.
This is very unlike Wigan! This is one hell of a "proper traction" day. How long did it take for the 37's to re-appear after they had gone towards Southport ? Where did they head off to next ?
Excellent day indeed. I would love to see the 43 banana train there.
That usually comes through every 2 weeks on a Tuesday morning going north around twenty past eight, it returns southbound the next day before lunch :)

The 31 was brilliant stuff. Don't like parked or snail pace trains much. I agree its nice to see stuff like the 37's but I still want to see them puffing and splurting.
