How to make alcohol ink fades/bubbles [1]

  • Alcohol ink bubbles- many people have asked me how I make these so here’s a video to show you how.
    These ink paintings take some time to make so you need a little patience.
    I’ve uses Copic violet VO9 and Nara paper.

      Bev Yates thank you. I know.... sound was bad... I’ll try and make it better in the next video. Yes the ink always leaves stains on yupo, sadly. Nara paper is becoming more and more “famous”, so hopefully it will be available near you soon. And thanks for watching 😃

      Little Feather thank you 🙏 yes with this technique a hairdryer doesn’t really work, way to much air/power. Hope you have fun trying this. And hope you stay safe too in Tennessee 😊 (I’m trying to stay safe I Denmark)

      Sorry for not answering sooner but I’ve been sick for a long time 😊 when using isopropyl you need to wear a mask and have good ventilation

      Thank you very much 🙏 I don’t paint much on canvas, I like the way it looks on paper better.
      I’ve been painting with ink for about 2 and a half years- been painting with acrylics for almost 20 years

      Thank you very much. It’s 275 gsm. No It doesn’t warp, just only use low heat

      inkyneedkes hi, sorry for the late reply 🙏 I use Nara paper, I think it’s far better than other synthetic papers.
      With the heat gun I use one that has different levels, and I usually only use the lowest setting.

    I notice that the ink doesn't automatically spread on Nara paper. Can you do this technique with other types of paper?

      The dark colors don’t spread on Nara, but some of the brighter colors does. Yes you can do this on other types of paper but you might get stains (like on Yupo ) no stains on Nara 😄

      You’re welcome. Don’t know specifically, it has 3 different settings, I use the lowest amount of heat

      Heather Riche yes I do 👍 and I love metallics 😍 but with this particular technique it a bit tricky. It’s easier using metallics when you have more ink and isopropyl on the paper to mix it whit

    You are using heatgun nicely but my Nara paper gets distorted by heat gun usage. What to do?

      I don’t really use my heat gun anymore, but it had different settings so I could use low heat that didn’t ruin the paper.
      Now I use a Remington dryer 👍

    Hi. I love the video... if u don't mind trouble shooting something for me. I see that when you blow the alcohol into the color, at the other end the alcohol and ink doesn't bleed up. Your line stays put... does it make sense? My line gets pushed up ruining the bubble. I'm staying far from the other end with the blower... thank you

      Oana Schultz thank you. Hmm.... I’m thinking there’s probably to much power on your heatgun/hairdryer...... my heatgun has 3 levels and I only use the first level, where the air comes out really “slowly”. So try something with less power. 👍 also make sure there’s not to much isopropyl on the paper, that will make the ink move to much. I hope that helps you 🙏🙏

      Hi 🙋‍♀️ maybe 800-1000. Use low amount of air and low heat or cold. But... if you are new to ink, just give it some time and practice a lot. Ink isn’t as easy as it looks

      Sue Taylor there is a little bit of heat... very similar to an blow dryer. If you use a lot of heat I think it might ruin the paper.... 😊
