I’m day 3 after surgery and I feel great. Best decision I made in a long time. Sleep is way better. Not waking up shaking my hand with pain. And I’m doing stuff around the house. Can’t wait to fully heal and get my other hand done.

My caregiver had surgery on both her hands and she said it was the worse experience she ever had because she couldn't do most simple things that you do everyday. She had to have her children and husband clean her when she used the restroom and her everyday chores. She does not recommend doing both hands at the same time.

I know this is an older vid, but your experience was a bit different than mine. I had them done 3 weeks apart. Right hand was fairly good, but fair bit of pain. I wasn’t able to take anything strong for pain (upsets my stomach) so was quite sore. I had good range of motion after about 5 days. Left hand was done 3 weeks after along with 2 trigger finger releases all at once. That hand is still very sore and swollen after a month now. I was able to go back to work this week doing carpentry. I dealt with this condition for almost 20 years and even with some pain it’s one of the best thing’s I’ve done. Glad you had such a great outcome.

This is the best video on You Tube. Thank you for make it as Comprenhensive as possible. The videos I have found are so lame when it comes to explaining the post op. My question was what can and cannot do?
I was told night to help anyone to get up. No opening the fridge. That was it. I soon realize that pain as a tell tail and common sense to avoid injury. Thank you so much for recording this video and posting it.
Edit: I had the same experience as yours. My fingers gained mobility right way but no opening the refrigerator door allowed. This is a very delicate recovery as the tendon recovery is a long process. The tendon can be compared to a wet noodle during the recovery process. It’s is a very simple surgery but the post op care and recovery takes time. Patients need to be extra careful. No pulling period.

Shortest surgery ever! The stitches are the most annoying as I've pulled them a couple times, 1x stretching my arm putting on my shirt, felt like I pulled it out...hubby said, no way, haven't looked, getting them out May 5, surgery was April 19. Ice & elevate 1st 3 days & you'll be fine. Then stretches to keep scar tissue at bay! Actually looking forward to doing my right hand in June. Stay well

I’m a paralegal and have been doing the same type of wk for 25 years so that’s what caused mine but I can’t live like this. My surgeon told me that normally they don’t give steroid injections but every 6 months with a cap I’m sure. The 9th will be my second round in 9 weeks. So here we go. I had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery and my experience was a lot different from yours. You didn't say which type of surgery you had so that might be a factor. I also am much older than you and have heart problems. Along with ct, I also had a trigger finger that needed surgery. It took me several tries before I found a doctor that would do all 3 at the same time. No IVs in my arms, just 1 that went into a vein in my foot. My surgery was open with general anesthesia and took 1 hour. I had surgery at 9 am and my hands remained numb until the next day. As you did, I set an alarm to take my pain med every 6 hours to stay ahead of the pain. I felt much better on day 2 and was able to use my hands more and do hand exercises although when I felt pain, not just discomfort, I would let my hands rest and not push it.
My biggest worry was not the surgery but the self care during recovery. I just moved to the town where I live with my son so no one to help out with dressing, toilet and bathing. I did some prep work ahead of time. I wore pull-over housedresses for several days and nights then zip in the front bras. The housedresses made it easy to raise up when using the toilet. I bought toilet wipes and was able to cover my hand/wrap with that and wipe myself after urinating. There are also scented wet wipes that I used to clean myself until I could shower. I prepared and/or bought food I could easily hold between two hands and eat and disposable coffee cups that were lightweight and the lid was easy to put on.
I, too, have no regrets over getting all surgeries done at once.

Thank you for your video. I've put the surgery off for almost a year because I'm alone except for the spouse, and I'm his caregiver. I need both hands and both feet surgeries and being a caregiver means I can't be out of commission. My daughter is coming from out of state to help me. She's a nanny, so she only has her vacation time. (If it was critical, she would be here any time). I didn't want to burden her vacation with my problem, but she's being the boss of me about this. Lol
I appreciate you for sharing your experience. I'm 73, but like you, I don't get all whiny and helpless just because I have an excuse. I have to get one hand done at a time because of my circumstances. Hopefully, after the first is done, I'll be able to see what I'm dealing with in my recovery needs. I've also researched and UA-cam'ed this extensively. My goodness! Some videos make it look and sound like a full-on amputation! Scared me!
I hope you are quickly up and running and feeling great relief.

I just had my second one done yesterday, the first one on my right hand actually damaged the nerves completely in the palm and now I am left with 24 seven pain and burning the Doctor Who did the surgery said he’s never seen anything like it. I’ve been to the neurologist they don’t have a clue of what happened it was just a fluke, freak surgery unfortunately, I can already feel the burning in my left palm as well. I’m gonna cross my fingers and hope the same doesn’t happen because I’m right handed and now I have no use of my right hand, except for the three fingers and thumb. I hope your surgery went well for you. I know it’s been a few years. ❤

I did both of mine at the same time years ago it was a little rough at first best way to do it only one healing time. I was awake during mine but sedated. Easiest surgery that I ever had. Now I’m healing up from a total knee replacement the carpal tunnel was a piece of cake compared to that.

I had my right hand done first. Only had freezing. I felt everything happening during surgery but no pain. It took all about 20 mins including stitches. I was told to keep my hand elevated above my heart for 48hrs and I only took one advil after the freezing started to wear off about 8 hrs later to ease the pain which was tolerable but to be more comfortable I took it. I also did some finger exercises right away to keep things moving. The fingers were stiff surprisingly while doing the exercises. I still do them at 4 weeks. Then the morning of the 5th day I was allowed to take the bandages off. Honestly I had trouble wiping with bandage off so I used my left hand for about 3 weeks. Using right hand for wiping now and find wrist still sore during wiping it's been 4 weeks now. Just taking it easy there. Not sure I would like to get both at the same time. I like being to have one hand to still do regular stuff. I am getting left hand done in June. I have had NO carpel tunnel symptoms since the surgery very happy I did the surgery. I have had carpal tunnel for 24 yrs. I can sleep through the night now. Makes me wanna cry that I can finally sleep..left hand is not as bad but still getting it done as there are symptoms there just not as bad. TIP I have been wearing a sports bra to make it easier. Also yes if you have any prescription bottles may need help opening those. So plan ahead with that.

I'm having bilateral in Dec. A little concerned. I'm a nurse and we are difficult patients because...we know too much ;) Also though, I'm single and live alone :( Friends are offering to help, but still. Wiping, etc. I'm type I diabetic as well, so doing the insulin and such. I was encouraged to do them bilaterally. My deductible is super high which stinks but thankful I'll be getting it. I live in the beautiful garden state, NJ which means it's constant clean up with weeds in summer, leafs in fall, snow in winter and it's mountainous/hills. So, I need my hands. Single homeowner. And I'm year over due. Thank you.

I had my right CTunnel, in October, took until last month or so to heal. But I have Fibromyalgia so all pain is magnified, and I have a high tolerance to pain meds.
In Australia thanks to them trying to catch up on “elective” surgeries coz of Covid, so we had the joy of here’s your local aesthetic, and just don’t look.
My surgeon did give a dose of 12 hour local, decided as soon as he found out I had Fibro. That both helped and was also a hinderance, as I live alone, toilet was hard, changing clothes almost impossible.. and because I have a choice of walker or crutches to get around.
Waiting for the left one now, hopefully not another 2.75 years to get booked in??
Coz it will be mid way through 2026/7.
    ❤😂😅😊

How severe were your symptoms before the surgery because I’m supposed to be having mine on the 12th and I’m really considering just getting both done and over with but I don’t have anyone to help me that’s the only thing and I’m a CNA in the hospital so I push and pull more than 100 pounds, so I’m gonna be out for like three weeks But I was wondering if you ever had that sensation where it felt like your hands were on fire in the middle of the night because that’s been the worst of the worst symptom for me. Also, did you ever get like cortical steroid injections and if so, how many cause I got quite a few within like a year I had four or five.

I just did my left yesterday. I do not recommend bi-lateral and neither did my Doc. it's hard enough dealing with that huge bandage on your hand and although your fingers are quite mobile your entire hand is limited. For example you don't want to put too much pressure on the surgical site so opening a bottle water, opening food packages to cook, washing your hands, everyday things we do with our hands we take for granted etc. are all very awkward. You are not allowed to lift anything more than 5 lbs for two weeks and with two hands on the mead you'll need a lot more help doing simple tasks. I also heard you'll need help wiping your ass as she even had trouble wiping the front part. Probably not a good idea filming this and telling us how easy and wonderful it all is when you are on narcotics but I appreciate the video. to that end any surgery sucks, as you have to get a pre-opp exam, get stuck with needles in both hands (right was IV, left was pain meds) take time off of work etc. I agree it's not knee replacement surgery or brain surgery but it's still surgery.

I had my right hand done two days ago. This is more of an inconvenience than anything else, I am right handed, but it was the one that was bothering me the most. I wouldn’t dream of having a spouse or my boyfriend wipe my rear end. But that’s just me. My doctor told me to keep my bandages on for two weeks. I wonder why yours get to come off in three days? Either way, I hope that your surgery is a success! I will get my left hand done later this year. But for anybody who is questioning whether to do it or not, I say do it! I dealt with this for 20 years and am now just doing something about it.Best of luck to all of you who have had it done and any of you who are thinking about having it done!
