Great video - although I had to use a 36mm socket to get the axle nut removed.

Wish I had read the comments about the hub nut before starting work rather just trusting the video, the video really needs updating to say its a 36MM socket, as Ritchie has said most socket sets only go up to 32MM so I have to wait now for the correct socket to arrive which is a bit of a pain since it was a nightmare trying to get the hub cap/cover off. My Renault is a Clio 4 2018 model.

For anyone's information, I have a 2014 Clio DCI 90 Eco S&S trim and the nuts are 30mm on the rear drums so it may be different depending on the year and model

Done the brakes today, you will need a 36mm socket and a torque wrench to tighten the hub nut to 280Nm, the wheel nuts 105Nm, 17mm socket. Photos of the spring layout help before you strip it down. Adjust the handbrake afterwards, T20 bit and 13mm ring spanner needed.

Thanks, - but no locking mechanism for the center nut except the 280Nm ?

Is it necessary to replace rear brake cylinders?

Is there no adjustment needed to bring shoes out a little so you can let handbrake adjustment off a bit . And the hub nut is more than 21mm!

    Hi...
What size mm of socket wrench?

  • @alexandrosk.6451

The video says to use 280Nm in the torque wrench when tightening the nut of the drum.
Are you sure if this is correct, because it appears to be too high? What does the manufacturer suggest for Clio IV for the drums in the rear axle? Thanks

If anyone out there have a running issue with their Clio 4 2019(tce90) it might be this! I have tried to get in contact with renault Sweden but still no answer after a week. This might even be a "BIG" recall. The evap valve in my car was mounted up side down from factory. So everyone, look at the blue prints... Allways! Does anyone have contacts with Renault in France?

Hey guys there’s an error in your video. For removal of the hub nut you state use a 21mm socket, yet when tightening you say it’s a 32mm socket. Which one is it? As far as I am aware it’s the same nut that goes back on so would surely be the same size socket.

Just to add confusion, my Mk4 2014 is bigger than 32mm. I’m here trying to find out the size so I can order the correct socket

It's a 36mm socket, beware normal socket sets only go upto 32mm!

    • @sleekitwan

Yes, they are always massive compared to ‘normal’ sizes. (Hot tip first: incredibly common to be able to drive the car, safely, with the plastic middle taken out of the alloy wheel, and the little steel cap sprung out from the drum, per this very good video…you will have to jack the car up, remove the wheel, but these are just dust-caps, so if you are really unsure of the size, you can set yourself up so you try it right outside the parts/tool shop. That way, you definitely got the right size with one shop trip.)
Highly unlikely you will have the correct one, unless you specifically bought it…and they like to vary the sizes between models and manufacturers…I have literally stopped work on my car, every single time, because I never have the correct size. I have 37mm, 34mm, and two others. With four oversize in total, it’s now 50/50 I won;t have to halt work. One thing for sure, it ain’t gonna be no 21mm. That’s minuscule in terms of axle nuts. All mine, from Citroen Xm and Rover 827, down to little Renaults, were in the ‘30+’ mm range. 21mm is just a bit bigger than wheel nuts/bolts. Can’t be 21mm for that reason, plus, the actual socket is usually quite ‘deep’, so even if you had a ‘normal’ socket set with say, 34mm in, it is highly unlikely to have enough depth so the axle end permits the serrated profile part of the socket (the front rim that ‘grips’ the nut), to,be accommodated - it’d just foul when you tried to push it on the nut, not reaching a fully tightened nut. It’s a constant PITA, can you tell?!
Take care, easiest to measure it first so you;re in the right ball park, and most spares places are fine about you returning it in exchange straight away, if you literally just put it on top of the nut and it’s not quite the right size. Note the hot tip at the start of my reply though, it does usually prove possible!
