VD is the absolute maximum speed above which the aircraft must not fly.
On any Airbus fly by wire aircraft, it is not possible to reach VD, due to the flight envelope protections available in normal law. They are protected by High Speed Protection laws which automatically recovers the aircraft if VMO and VD are exceeded. Unless those normal law and high speed protection fails there are recovery procedures to protect the aircraft from structural damage and disintegration. The recovery procedures can be found from this Airbus video.

VMO= Maximum Operating Speed
VD= Design Diving Speed
MMO= Effective Mach Speed Limit (“barber pole” on the airspeed indicator) at higher altitudes, since at higher altitudes the airspeed is displayed in Mach instead of Knots.
MD is same as VD.
If any aircraft exceeds the VMO and VD/MD limits, structural disintegration can occur.
