The BMW uses plastic water pump in the engine. And please compare a Lexus with a BWM, not a $25,000 Corolla Cross.

Lexus are 100% the same here. That's just Toyota tech with a different badge.

We are not talking about outside plastic. BMW are using plastic insidevtheir engines. Water pumps and sobon.

So are the VW's, which has excessive plastic usage, For heating/cooling components no plastic should be used. BUT, then we have to deal with corrosion. When it comes to the plastics, it might be best to keep a couple of steps ahead of the problem areas by replacing necessary parts, as soon as one part starts to go bad.

The problem with the plastic quality on all Toyotas are very bad. The plastic quality on German brands are on another level.

But shouldn’t a luxury car use less plastic?

Plastics are automotive standard now and are more modern technology allowing for better heat transfer and weight savings capability.

BMWs aren't even considered Luxury cars. It's a premium brand. Luxury cars are Rolls Royce, Bentley and the likes

First of all sir, the valve covers are not made of plastic. What you were showing were the beauty covers. By the way, most manufacturers these days uses plastic material for the intake manifold but i doubt very much any plastic would withstand the pressure of any internal combustion engine as valve covers.

A lot of companies use thermoplastic valve covers. The materials are designed to withstand the heat of the engine bay and from the oil the valve springs and cams kick up against the inside of them

@areitu OH really? Do you mind naming some. I would like to do a detailed research on such.

@@waynejackson169Honda, Toyota, Ford, BMW, Chrysler, etc. The BMW in the video has a plastic valve cover underneath the beauty cover. In fact I’m pretty sure all BMW straight 6 engines since the 90s have had plastic valve covers. My 2015 ford fusion has a plastic valve cover. My dad a 2018 F-150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and it had a plastic oil pan. Heck my aunt has a 2014 Chrysler 300 that has a plastic oil cooler/filter housing along with plastic valve covers, and plastic transmission pan, and quite a few plastic cooling system parts.

@jacobneal5388 OH wow! That's news to me. Perhaps the reason for not knowing is that I really don't have any interaction with American cars or German cars for that matter. Ok, just a few but those have aluminum valve covers.
