Having seen them 30 times since 73, it's not only their music, it's being surrounded by what's left of our generation and our love and longing for times gone by and our incredible music
I love “South City Midnight Lady” and “Dark Eyed Cajun Woman” are definitely two of my favorites! “Listen to the Music” always makes me feel good. 💯🎶🥰 I grew up on Doobies music, and never ever tire of it. Thanks guys!
They're great songs,I love the Doobies.
The Doobie brothers were such a popular late 60s and early 70s band and they music is still very popular especially on oldies and goodies radio stations 😊😅😮😂❤😂😊
And Dan Rather got it right saying the Doobie brothers were one of the most popular rock bands ever during the late 60s and early 70s 😊😅😮😂❤😂😊
South city and dark eyed off my favorite doobies album..The Captain and Me
Proud to say that I've been a loyal fan since the early 70's and had the awesome opportunity to attend a recent Doobies concert with my kids who, like me, knew the lyrics and sang along with most of the songs played!
I remember hearing Listen to the Music for the first time riding with my Dad in his pickup. He only had an AM radio in it. Wonderful memories from my youth. Saw the doobies many times back in the 70's. One of my all time favorites
Great memory.
I saw them in concert in Vancouver BC in the 70’s
And when they did Jesus is just alright with me! I was saved!
I didn't like that song until I got saved.
Will always love the Doobies music!
Great interview! Another Park, Another Sunday will always be one of my favourites.
Love the band and Dan Rather's interviews
I like how at :38 Dan says part of his job is to separate bull shine from brass tacks when everyone knows he got fired from CBS for lying.
What a down to earth group of guys. Most bands aren’t like that in an interview. A symptom of relatively clean living!
Story…while in the Navy in 1978, I and some shipmates hired a driver to take us around Karachi, Pakistan for a day. All it cost us was a cassette of Doobie Brothers greatest hits because the driver loved it so much when we stuck it in his player. Of course we tipped with a few American bucks (worth something in those days), but all he wanted was the Doobie Brothers cassette.
I was on the. Midway from 77 to 79. And on an Indian Ocean cruise that had a port o call in Karachi around that time
Great story.
"Listen to the Music" is one those great songs that are self-validating...it urges people to 'listen to the music', all the while being the very reason people listen to the music...memorable melody, heavenly harmonies...
The descending banjo line on the chorus of listen to the music always got me. Amazing fuckin song.
And great lyrics!
Love these guys!! When I was little in the 70s, they were the first band I saw live on TV. I associate "Black Water" with them more than any other song.
Listened to these guys at the Chateau in Los Gatos in the early 70's. I knew they'd go far.
Chateau Liberte??? Santa Cruz mountains!!!! The Tubes!!! Fee Waybill.....
@@timreding4364 One and the same. Oh, were those the days.
These guys are dope. They stopped rerun from getting extorted.
well you gotta look out for kids who go to your old high school…
What about Dewayne and Rodge? 😃
Met them backstage at the Wilmont Theater in Montclair NJ a few years back. The nicest down to earth guys you’ll ever meet. Was friends with Michael Hassock who has since unfortunately passed away. Mike and his brother Eric both went to Passaic Valley HS and both played the drums. Both great guys
There's nothing more magical than a Doobie brother! Never stop loving them! All there music is awesome. But I think black water was the song that sealed the deal!
Gotta love "South City Midnight Lady" to further seal the deal!! Cheers, Chris D.
But have you ever seen a catfish jump? 😃 I geuss it sounded better than mullet lol.
Black Water and China Grove
Every song from The Captain and Me is outstanding!
I'm 64 and the first time i heard Jesus. It was on my cousins stereo, it was a real nice unit. It blew me away. I've been a fan sense. A huge thank you for all the music and memories.
"Listen to the Music" that is my all time most favorite by the Doobs.
My first real "favorite band". I saw them warm up for Santana in Saratoga a couple years ago and they did all the old stuff off the first few albums. Ukiah, Eye's of Silver, Great songs that really brought me back to my early days. Like the song says "Listen to the Music"!
This band is the best reminds me of I time when I was a kid and my parents and their friends listened to the doobies
Ive seen these guys 3 times and each time they blew me away. I remember the first time I heard 'Listen To The Music'. Two mates and I were in a VERY tiny seaside town called Pottsville in Northern New South Wales playing pool. The town maybe had a dozen or 2 houses and we were on holidays from Sydney. This song came on and I just loved the rhythm guitar in it and then they brought the melody and then those harmonies of theirs. I was forever sold.
Dark eyed Cajun woman is a great song. Classic.
"Which Doobie you be"? Who remembers What's Happening?
I remember them on What's Happening. "Fly Me to the Moon" at the end of that episode.
Listening to these guys,in 2023. From MI. ❤😊, Heard them, at pine knob, many years ago.... Live them, always been a huge fan. 😊
Love them, I meant.
@@brendaniebel1355 These guys are so talented they deserve all the attention and respect they get. Thank you for listening
Wow guys. Biggest fan. Played pretty much everything we were capable of covering. Knocking around and saw Tom doing an interview. Was reinspired by everything!!! 64 years old now. My opinion is just changing always changing on what I like best. Maybe south city midnight lady. Could be some girl, not sure but, knocked several out with your music. I'm still out!!! Thank you so much for the cool stuff to play and make pretty good coin doing it. Good to get the opportunity to tell you. Such good quality material to speak to. I was am the drummer and still have to tell them, it's in G. Long Train is in G. Little guitar player in me. Can't help it. It's a crime not to cover them in anything but where y'all put them. It's so hard to get vocal up to that. All the bands I had trained in high school chorus. Life is so good if you keep trying!!! Thank you so very much for your music 🎵. Listening to you. Later . G . Hames
I go to see these guys every chance I get! Been a fan since the early 70’s.
South City Midnight Lady always makes me cry... especially the ending. It really sounds like something out of a movie.
I get goosebumps just remembering "without You" played live
Doobie bros. No egos like the eagles. Totally a big part of my life growing up and onward. Always have these guys on my list to listen to. Cant say enough about how great they are and especially how cool they are. Would love to meet them and tell them how much i got into their music.
My favorite had to be " Black Water " . As a side note I saw them in concert in 1976 as a back up band and was up close to the front . We were all passing doobies around and I looked to the side of the stage where they weren't easily seen and while someone else was playing a solo there were doobies passed around .
GREAT TALKS.!! LOVE YOU ALL.!!!!!!!!
Most underrated American rock band of all time. HOF induction was way overdue.
They really are not “underrated” at all 😊
R.R.H.F. is so overated. Is it more important for the musicians or the fans. It is so saturated now.
@@mikegike7273 That's what everybody says until they get in. I agree with the sentiment, they were the same band before and after they were inducted. So why does it matter?
I'm not sure, but in the end it does, despite all the protestations.
This band made some of the best road trip music I've ever listened to. Their albums are always on my play list during my trips out to the western rockies (from the southeast). Texas Lullaby is another favorite of mine because it reminds me of my growing up on the farm. Like the song says, an old oak tree was one of my best friends too.
Awesome !!
Seen a few years ago!! In Oklahoma! Still as good as I imagined!!💕💕💕😊😊🇺🇸🇺🇸🎉🎉😊
Yeah Tom ! Dark eyed Cajun Woman, absolute classic among many many classics. I saved up my paper round money to buy my first album ( i had a few 45's ) and i never looked back ( even when M.McD joined ) the Worlds BEST BAND
Thanks for the post I heard the same story when I first started listening to them, glad they cleared that up. 😂 👍Love Long Train Running !! ☝️
Me too! Long Train Running is my all time favourite.
Huge Doobies fan ever since they were the first big and famous band I saw in concert. That was 1972 and they opened the show with Listen to the Music. That opening guitar part that Tom opened the show with, it gave me goosebumps and every time I hear it now it takes me back to that moment in time. I was almost overwhelmed when Tom said his favorite song was " Dark eyed Cajun Women. Its not only my favorite Doobies song, its one of top 10 favorite songs of all time. I think its sad that they didn't seem to really want to open up about the pot smoking and the fact that that's really where their name came from. It was such a different time back then, pot was different back then. Unlike the super strong pot that was bred into existence now a days, it was not strong at all back then. You could smoke a bunch and still have fun...it was all very innocent back then. I guess unless you lived though that era, there is just no way to explain it.
The Doobie Bros. was the first concert I took my son to hear. They continue to play great music.
As a kid of the 70's "Black Water" sticks out more to me than the rest. Then maybe "Listen to the Music" or "Jesus Is Just Alright", even China Grove. However it was always "Black Water" for me.
Great to hear 'South City Midnight Lady.' It's my fave.
Love the name and the music
Pat Simmons is the most underrated superstar of all time.
Great songs! I always thought Doobie meant doobie. Never thought twice about it.
So good
🎩 5 Concerts of 💯+!
I love this band because they are always happy on stage and their songs show it! I also am a Big Patrick Simmons Fan!!!
That ole black water will keep on rolling
I have to agree with Lab. Those two songs are my favorite Doobies songs. In fact, The Doobies Have been my favorite band since day one. And that is going way back people. This is one very special group of people we need more of in the world.
My first concert in 84’ have seen them many times since, jamband!
I saw my Doobs for the 9th time in Pikeville, KY last June (‘23). I love them so much ❤️✌🏼 They’re the real deal, but Patrick is my pick 😅
See y'all in Greensboro NC Sept 7
i went to see them in 1978 , loved them then, love them now don’t stop to watch tha wheels go round 74”ci shovel head 😎
Legends.
South of the Border is one of their best rockin' cuts, IMHO.
They never had to prove greatness after, "Listen to the Music".
What a trip!! Dark eyed Cajun Woman is my All time favorite song.. Makes it more special that Tom feels the same way
I don’t really have a favorite band but they up there
Always thought the guitar style on Dark Eyed Cajun woman was a tribute to BB King's style. Too many to choose from but right up there at the top 5 favorite songs is Down in the Track from Vices and Habits
Listen to the music 👍 🇬🇧
Love those songs as well but you can't forget the Michael McDonald era and What a Fool Believes. Awesome band!
Black Water !
1976. Driving my 1970 Dodge Challenger, 8 track tape playing "South City Midnight Lady." 18 and not a care in the world.

It is all legit now. 🌴

I used to be a roadie with the doobies..maaan
The day never went by back in the 70's that we didn't have one of their albums on a turntable in our component room.. Every time they came out with a new one we went over to the record department and stole it..
"Pass me that Doobie Brother" = "The Doobie Brothers".
Rerun, how could you?! 😂
I know Keith. He confirmed that the band name is what you all think it means.
um he never heard of scooby doobie doobie do wop? c'mon man .. its harmony, doobie brothers? they harmonize a lot?
If your a Doobie Brother or a fan and you don't like 'Listen to the Music' there is something wrong with you !
where's the Music ?
"Hey Dan Blather, we want you to interview the Doobie Brothers to make you seem relevant." "Who???"
Thank God he didn't have Michael McDonald there. I absolutely loved the band until his "takeover" of the sound.
Of course he had a wonderful voice, but it was just like his name, ubiquitous and you couldn't turn on the FM without hearing him for almost ten years, it seems. Then he turned his light on Steely Dan and luckily, they knew one was enough. But I could not imagine living a life without "Listen To the Music" or "Dark-eyed Cajun Woman". One of America's Finest! 😍😎
I love the original Doobies period best, but the McDonald era was also great. Think it’s great in recent times that you have both periods represented together. So much amazing music, from very hard rockers to folky stuff to funky stuff to ballads etc etc they did it all.
I have seen them six times beore Michael McDonald and only twice with them.
His ballads are depressing

Doobie bro ..duh
Dan square balls Rather…
Why say that? Rude troll.
For god's sake...not a grassy knoll...
their music is terribly annoying but to each their own
What??? I don’t wanna know what you like if you find the Doobies “annoying.”
Then I wonder why you clicked on this video
This is the first and only time I've ever heard anyone say they don't like the doobie Brothers lol
So many great songs ! I’m not from the south, but Black Water immediately makes me think of my childhood summers!🤔🌝🍉🍔🌭🥤⚾️🚣♀️🎸🚲🎡⛺️
