As I'm listening to them talk, Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons, it makes me realize that it's a good thing that they're still friends after all these years. (1970) They didn't let time or anything else get in the way of their friendship. And I notice when watching these fine men, that you can tell it's give and take with them. When Tom talks, Patrick is politely silent. And when Patrick talks, then Tom is equally polite, in a brotherly respect. This is what perfect balance looks like in a friendship. I am very happy for these men, and The Doobie Brothers. Play on boys! (affectionately)
Saw the doobie bros play at Bourbon and Beyond last night and they were phenomenal. I knew these guys were rock legends but I wasn’t prepared to be that blown away. Pat especially is one hell of a guitar player.
I'm glad things are still going well for them, but when I want to listen to the Doobie Brothers, I always reach for one of their first five albums. Those are still fantastic albums!
Not sure but he finds it very difficult to let him get a word in edgewise. I can see why he and McDonald were like repelling magnets with McDonald steering clear of him in sessions and during concerts.
What's with the sound on this? Was it taped in a bathroom? Get your shit together. Very hard to hear. And what's with Pat's reaction to Skunk's working with the government. Lots of resentment there. Do they not get along? They are both really nice guys who lot of good work. I saw them 4 times in Kalamazoo, MI back in the 70s. Excellent shows.
Yeh, no mention of how Skunk brought Michael Mcdonald into the band either. Skunk absolutely was a DOD consultant. In an interview Skunk told about how when he was on a covert mission, he was able to calm down terrified kids using music in a war zone. It was a truly beautiful story. Skunk is much much more than a guy who can play a wah-wah pedal. One thing's for sure, when Skunk left, Skunk left; and he never once looked back. ua-cam.com/video/Ga3QoBDd3og/v-deo.htmlsi=dFKnsACSjHJZLXFz

Very Well said. These Gentlemen are True Treasures.
OMG Pat's pained facial expressions when the subject of Skunk came up is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I can't stop watching it.
“Just cause you know how to play a wa-wa pedal…”. Lmao. Exactly Patrick. You’re a funny dude. I love these interviews.
THESE TWO MEN ARE MY FAVORITE MUSICAL BAND LEADERS OF MY LIFETIME!!!
One of the greatest American bands ever assembled.

I could listen to you all
Day and all night. #doobiebrothers50
this was a great interview. Thanks so much
Good interview.
Tom is good song writer.
Love that band
thanks fellas saw you in Perth West Australia brilliant

"...did our first record, which went plywood..." : Gold.
Great guys. And John McFee too.
Great Great from Japan❤😮❤😊
great songwriter
It’s how brothers are
HAS TOM JOHNSTON EVER GIVEN PATRICK SIMMONS THE CREDIT HE DESERVES FOR HIS INCREDIBLE LEADERSHIP, VOCALS AND MSICIANSHIP???????
Not sure but he finds it very difficult to let him get a word in edgewise. I can see why he and McDonald were like repelling magnets with McDonald steering clear of him in sessions and during concerts.
Simmons seems like the laid back, steady guy everyone can like and is the glue of all the different personalities.
As much as I like Tom Johnston's sound and influence, I have noticed that Michael McDonald is far more complimentary towards Tom than visa-versa.
Thanks for straighten that out Pat!
Finally a clear view on the alleged Skunk = Defense specialist rumor (read: nonsense)
Hate to tell you, but Jeff is legit as a defense consultant. Woke is broke.

The whole Bill of Rights, Preamble and Declaration of Independence is pretty woke. You should read it sometime.
Tom Johnston looks like Bobby Kimball
Talking "noise". You guys are difficult to follow, mostly because of a background noise. At 16,35 (new take) it disappears
When Mcdonald was there it was like doobies were his back up band. I like the rock n roll doobies not the adult contemporary mike Mcdonald Era.
I TRULY BELIEVE PAT HAS WANTED TO CHOKE OUT TOMMY FOR YEARS, DUE TO HIS DIRESPECT!!!

Might have helped if Tommy had got rid of the face fur 😊

Tom Johnston, best voice for the Doobies. Michael McDonald…well…not so much. Sorry, just don’t get it.
