I was born in 1969 and grew up listening to the Doobie Brothers with Michael McDonald. It was great Music back then and it's just as good today and still relevant.
The Doobie Brothers - thee greatest American rock band ever. And I'd like to give some props to John McFee - never really gets much credit, but he's a musician's musician, so skilled on so many instruments.
I saw Michael in the early 2,000's at an outdoor theater on a beautiful summer evening in Ct. His voice was the same and his now white hair enhanced the blue of his beautiful eyes. It was an unforgettable evening ! ❤❤❤❤❤
These guys were a staples back in the late 70's early 80's @ alpine valley in Wisconsin. They would 2-3 nights, we went every night sure it cost some brain cells, but well worth it. Just saw them here in Chicago last year , still sounding great, congrats on going for 50 years guys
Just saw 'em last night night in Madison, WI...Marc and Michael did "Amazing Grace", then morphed right into "Still crazy after all these years"...simply an amazing performance!
Super camera work here. Fine sound and thanks for shiaring. Best part is no audience vocals to screw up a video ! Still contemplating seeing them Monday at Bluesfest in Byron Bay. "Very soon time will tell......,Taking it to the Streets!".
What an incredible instrumental jam, before the original song kicks in at 4:45. First saw them play this one in April 1977 at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, but first saw Michael McDonald with Steely Dan at Toledo University in April 1974. His voice was a revelation that night. Been a fan ever since.
@@kathyjones274 Do you recall the year and location? Their 1973 tour dates didn't include Michael McDonald or 2nd drummer Jeff Porcaro. After July 1974 they stopped touring until August of 1993, when only Becker and Fagen were left from the original band.
@@Bluman2 No internet back then, so I had no idea that Steely Dan's 1974 touring band included Michael McDonald, as well as a 2nd drummer, Jeff Porcaro. Crazy thing was that my wife and I had seen Porcaro in March of 1972 (when he was still just 17 years old), drumming for Sonny & Cher at a concert in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
I'm glad they all put their differences aside and came together united as a band to celebrate the bands 50 years as an item . Here's to another 50 years of rocking as the Doobies Brothers continue to play and sing as a cohesive unit 😉🎸🎹🎷🥁
There was no problem with the band members Michael Mcdonald went to a different demention musically, Tom Johnson come back and took it where he left off, the all play together now Michael two will be great to see that, even if I have to go to America to see the doobie brothers I live in Ireland 🇮🇪
What differences? I thought the Doobie Brothers were a great band and I was never a Doobie Brothers fan or a fan of the Doobie Brothers but I love ❤️😘 the song "Taking it to the streets." Michael McDonald is 1 of the best voices of our time him and Kenny Loggins.
Doobie Brothers, Grand Funk Railroad, Marshall Tucker Band, Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, Leonard Skinner............those were the days! - Tom Johnson, Long Train Running!
Still so so good. I love these guys so much. note: Assuming this was April 4th 2023 (They list day/month/year in Australia?) Since today is May 4th and this was posted 4 weeks ago.
What a fine performance. I met Michael recently in upstate New York where he lives. We shared an early morning breakfast in a diner and I was impressed by his appetite. He has a particular fondness for hash browns. We spoke as he ate and he told me of his plans to dye his hair. Watch this space!
Too bad the audio is just a cell phone recording and not patched in to the sound system. A lot brilliant musicianship got lost in the echo-ey mush of sound.
Nothing?? Oh come on,they were verr good with him,but they were just as good before and after he was there,he made them a bit more pop rock, aka mainstream..they rocked more guitar driven rock without him....what a insult to say they were nothing
Why even say that? They were rocking it before Michael and they're still rocking it now. Legends...ALL of them. Geez...why even go there when they're all obviously playing well... together.
I disagree. He made them more acceptable to a white middle class audience and, therefore, more commercial, but they created great music before joined. Everything has to evolve, however.
You forgot the first several years which lifted them to the heights they were at when MMc. came and sat in with the band. To say Tom Johnston was nothing takes an empty mind with no experience in the music world. Johnston is the Doobie brother who started the whole show!!
How can you not like this music? Such talent and what’s a Soulful voice ❤

MAC rocks! MiamiU when you were at BG.
Many , many friends from there. Also, two boyfriends that turned into psychos.
Seen steely Dan in the 70s

Would've loved to be around then to see that. I'm going to UT starting this fall.

We can all learn from people who put differences behind them 💯

They're brothers!
That jam alone would be worth the price of admission! I cant wait to see them at the Rose center in Huber Heights in June!
I was there with one of my best friends and our wives and they were just FANTASTIC. The small, old style theater was the perfect setting.
"Theater" ? I thought Aussie's spelled it theatre.

Pure Excellence - an outstanding, definitely tremendous live - performance. BIG respect to all musicans involved.
Simple the BEST.
Poor Michael's voice. No way something like that can last forever. Good effort.
Awesome. Thank you for posting. They are scheduled to play in my region of the world this summer. Buying tickets immediately!
Saw them twice in their heyday, best concerts that I have been to.
Awesome❤
Michael MacDonald is and was the talent in The Doobie Brothers. Still has the voice even today.
Who is the earlier lead...Long Train Runnin singer? I really liked him!
Michael has a great voice. But I prefer Tom Johnston, the voice of the Doobie Brothers!
Agreed! His voice at 71 still sounds AMAZING!!!
No, Tom Johnston is
Michael…what a voice❤️
Wheewwwww !!! Purely Amazing Performance.. And MM's Piano/Keyboard Skillz are Just Off The Charts ☺☺😎👊💯💯 And Thanx a Million for The Upload ☺☺😎💯💯💖
Amazing introduction 🎵🙌🧡
Absolutely amazing

I'm going in August in Lincoln, Nebraska
Absolutely Fantastic see you in June at Wheatland Michael
It´s good to know one of the greatest American rock band comes together, but anyway they are fantastic musicians and that´s what i counts
Oh that voice.. one in a million!
Still so so good. I love these guys so much.

Great music is timeless.
Fantastic
Saw them in 2022 in Mountain View CA!!!
Ok so only the Doobs can incorporate gospel into (imo) their greatest hit EVER!
Mind blew ing !can't find it, help! Karita.
The most underrated Rick band ever. Ever. Sublime.
Awesome
Great.... Amazing
Marc Russo is one great sax player. He was the original sax player with The YellowJackets, a true jazzman, Kickin’ butt with Mike McD!
Marc and Michael taking us to church
Wow Tom's there! They all look great. To bad they couldn't talk Skunk into it.
Supreme !
Worked backstage and partied with them way back
The jam at the beginning is "Amazing Grace" .
MMcD is a huge gospel fan.
I’m pretty sure I also heard “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”
John Edwards, Thanks for confirming as Amazing Grace is my All Time Favorite! Then, these guys!
Are you slash UA-cam awake to THIS?!!?!……Good Lord I hope so……

F'k yeah!

Where in upstate NY? I thought he lived in the south?
メンバーチェンジが理由かもしれませんが、ドゥービーは過去の曲がどんどん進化していくことが素晴らしい。イーグルスはライブでは冒険しないで比較的レコードに忠実に演奏します。
The sax man understood the assignment
Michael McDonald tearing it up!!!
Mike n nem having church!
Where's Ree-Run bootlegging the show?????
He learned the error of his ways, and now spends his days listening to the juke box at the soda shop
LOL
Lol😂😂
@SteveHill0528 Correct
With that big ol tape recorder.. lol
KILLER !!!!
Old farts still got it.
You know this man has been to a Baptist church.
Where is the original bass player?
Hope Tom is doing better
Too bad the audio is just a cell phone recording and not patched in to the sound system. A lot brilliant musicianship got lost in the echo-ey mush of sound.
Oh, we went to church first!
Ha! a bunch of old men in the audience shaking their booties 😂
You’ll be one too Sonny
They were more Rock under Tom, didn’t listen to them when he left!
Michael McDonald: The man who ruined the Doobie Brothers.
WTH?
Get over it!
The Doobie Brothers without Michal Mcdonal are NOTHING!!!!!
For sure , he is amazing luv him😊

Probably get another 10 years out of Michael, if he would take care of his weight.
older michael mcdonald is a much better musician than younger michael mcdonald .. and younger michael mcdonald was a damn good musician ....
Almost as good as Justin timberlake.
Lol
Not the greatest, don’t kid yourself, kid..🤔
Michael McDonald unrecognisable and vocally off par but... he is a pensioner.
MM might be comin back too!
McDonald makes life real so many. ♥️♥️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Michael McDonald isn't much these days it would be a wise decision to get back with the Dobbie Brothers
Bob, you are delusional and ill informed to boot.
yeah? whats do you call this video?
Psssshhhhht! He gave two magnificent online shows solo over the past two years on Mandolin. New material and a recent new album. 😂
You don't see Tom, John, and Pat?
He’s been touring with them on their protracted 50th anniversary celebration for three years straight now.
