But first, check out this 1971 GTO giving you a hint towards some of the vehicles we'll be shooting very soon.
Enjoy!

Thanks for watching and help spread the word by telling your friends to check out AutotopiaLA! New episode every Tuesday and Friday at 5 pm (pst).
Yep, Steve's vision is 100% pure. Pure talent that is. Love his style.
Totally agree. More to come from Steve in the near future.
Steve is a legend! His work is like no other. Dude is gifted beyond belief!
Totally agree and is a great guy as well
Just when I think I seemed all the episodes. Bam I’m blessed with another!!!
This is such a beautiful build! Glad you watched it. For some reason it didn’t get much viewership and it’s one of the nicest builds on our channel
@@AutotopiaLA definitely a beauty!!
I watched the episodes on this build. There’s no steps skipped with him ever. Despite his challenges, this man has always been such a visionary. Very well done and such an incredible ride. Great video man! You’ve got some heavy hittin friends out there!
I have made some great friends in this industry and Steve is one of them. He’s a special talent and an incredible guy and his team is as good as it gets. And how about Gabe’s knocking out another killer interior!
Love the explanations of how these cars are built. You can learn so much. If a person plans to own a custom these are things to know. In fact I’d be great to have a channel devoted to teaching about restomods from top to bottom
What an amazing ride. My Mom and Dad had a Lemans Sport metallic burnt orange with a black vinyl top. Buckets, with a center console. 350/th350 limited slip. It was A sleeper GTO with hub caps. We swapped the engine for a Trans Am 400. Then I got to restore a triple black convertible for my bosses personal collection and that brought back all the memories just like this video just did. What an amazing car, and awesome video. Man I love it! Keep building these cars people.
The craftsmanship and time it takes to do this level build ain't cheap! Absolutely stunning, thanks for sharing this one with us Shawn!
Glad you enjoyed it. It’s not cheap building on this level but there’s already people saying they could build it for less. Whatever. Anyone who knows, knows.
Usually not into convertibles but this is probably one of my favorite builds on the channel. Keep em coming!
I’m the same as is Steve but this one is a killer.
Steves a great builder and designer so happy your putting these videos out that caters to my passion of custom building cars.
Auto Fanatic he really is and a great guy to top it all. More to come from Steve and Pure Vision I promise.
I’ve ALWAYS respected Steve Stroupe!!! Great vid as usual!!
Thanks. Yeah, Steve is a special one personally and creatively. Great friend and great designer/builder!
the Vision is Pure in that man. Happy New years guys.
Happy New Year back at ya! And yeah, he is pure no bullshit.
Wow what a unique ride. Thanks🎉
TOTALLY AWESOME BUILD!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!
Absolutely sensational!
WHAT A UNIQUE 1971 PONTIAC GTO....NICE SUPER GM ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
I love Steve Strope since the first day I discovered his world on the web/Martini Mustang (PETRLOCILIOUS). I truly agree with him about how expensive it is building a car like this. The more the customer wants, the more he has to pay. Now, about the crazy hours working on these things, make everything look like it should be fitting, lining, straightening, and painting is really really expensive. just admire and respect these people.
Absolutely beautiful car and the 411 regarding the build......invaluable !
Pretty intense build. More to come from Strope. Lots more.
THAT CAR LOOKED BETTER STOCK AND ORIGINAL LIKE IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY
Damn that thing looks awesome!
Cool car for sure Sam! You'd love this one in person.
Great episode Shawn, Steve to totally legit in every regard, and his garage is full of some badass gems!! What’s up next??
Can’t wait to shoot some of the vehicles currently in his shop. The Fairlane? Twin turbo Camaro? Ranch Wagon??
What a fine automobile.
Couldn’t agree more
Simply gorgeous, one of my all time favorites. 👍
Agreed. And I’m not a convertible guy but love this car!
OMG! That is car heaven! Crazy!
Strope and his crew builds some incredible vehicles.
@@AutotopiaLA Indeed! That is a marvel!
If I ever won the lottery, Steve would be my best friend.
I love Steve's no shitter explanation of why a true custom build costs what they cost. Expectations cost money and if you want the best, there is a price for that!
Exactly. There’s no bullshit with Steve. Part of why we get along so well.
Michael Cousins it’s $250.000 common. Are you delusional. It’s only going to get worst. These car guys just see a market of idiots and start charging ridiculous prices.
You’re clueless about building on this level. Otherwise your suggesting some of the smartest business people on the planet are morons? Show me a car on the level of build quality for less. Please.
Clueless
@@AutotopiaLA The guys who says the dumb shit that's above in the comments are people who have never built a custom of that magnitude and a majority of those idiots only know what they seen on TV and what happens in the course of a week on a half hour long show! It makes me laugh when I talk to people like that 😂
Was a pleasure to meet him at sema with you. Great episode as always
He’s so cool. Creative. Unique choices and a great friend.
Big fan of custom older cars I like the wheels choice nice work guys
HRE nailed it on the wheels. Killer build
Beautiful car. “Something I can take out on a date night!” Lol
OMG what a freaking outstanding piece of machinery....Steve Strope such a phenomenal designer / builder so low key, but such a force in the industry! That’s the man you want building your car, hell I want him to build mine! I need to replace my 70 Cuda!
I couldn’t agree more. His a true pure artist and a really good friend. Grateful to know him.
You are fortunate to know him, I spoke to Steve about 4 years ago when my Cuda was restored poorly I started seeking out the “right builder” to correct the problems. Steve and I spoke at length about what I needed to do and how this happens more often then hobbyist care to admit, I was so close to shipping my car to him but my financial situation prevented me from having him rebuild it.....the next one though Steven will be on the top of my list of builders!!
I can’t recommend him enough. And I hate how many horror stories there are of expensive half ass builds.
AutotopiaLA .....thanks Sean, for your response and words of encouragement. When I first commented on your brother’s black AAR Cuda , which btw I absolutely can see myself having built and driving the freaking wheels off of it, .... you had replied to stay in touch with you, so I need to seriously consider if I want a custom 70 Cuda again; going to the place where car builders and culture is king!
Keep up the great work
Andrew, Brooklyn NY
Thanks and we’ll keep cranking them out. Got a cool T Bucket coming Tuesday.
TWO OF THE COOLEST HOT RODERS ON EARTH.👍👍👍👍👍
Teve Tanders thanks man. Strope is the coolest. Such a great designer/builder and a really great guy.
Flawless with class
Awesome car. Still hard to believe Pontiac and Oldsmobile are both gone.
Crazy they’re both gone!
Hey Sean, I'm a new subscriber and a lifelong LA resident. I must say I am also a non purist unless you go concourse, and your channel is fucking phenomenal! Ive watched for only 3 days and Im HOOKED! PLEASE, keep up the great work sir!🤛😎👍
Clean. Sleek. Subtle.
Like it a lot!
Yessir! Beautiful build with so many things that none of get to see that make it a top quality design and build
One badass convertible
Wow wow wow
Agreed completely!
This is the best FN car channel on utube....
Fuck yes !! A Pontiac ! So good to see a Pontiac on the channels. Do a 69 firebird next !
Dying to do a Firebird/Trans Am. There’s a few I’m trying to line up currently.
Wow, an LS... never seen one of those before
Very nice car whoa great job man 👍👍👍
NOW THAT'S A GTO NEED TO BRING BACK THE GTO ORIGINAL THIS WILL SELL OF THE MARKET SCULPTURE GTO
My favorite. The HOT, Goat!
Sexy build for sure
Just awesome👍
Totally agree. Love this build.
Nice, very nice! You see he mentioned Nelson Racing engines, you should stop by his shop!
Yep. We’ll be shooting the twin turbo Camaro Steve built with the Nelson motor. That car is insane!!
@@AutotopiaLA sweet, i can't wait!
Would love to see a hardtop version of this :D
Steve and I both agree that we’re not big on convertibles but done like this you gotta love it.
One day soon! ❤.
👊
Did I see a Cadillac with swanga’s at the beginning of the video that’s what car culture is all about I like everything as long as good workmanship has been put into nothing half assed
Probably in the background. All kinds of stuff at my shop.
Sweet car. I was wondering what happens when he's going around a corner and hits a bump. The tire clearance in the front seems miniscule. But now I see how he avoids the tire bashing the fender-- by making turns slowly and very carefully.
Dope!
Yeah, beautiful build. And it drives sooo good
I Couldn't Hear What The Color Was From The Noise, All I Heard was Aston Martin DB but not the name ugh!! freaking love that color.
Davíð Sigurðsson sorry. Had mic fail.
If I'm lucky enough to find a 71 GTO ragtop barn find, I know where to take it to. 😎
Yessir! I’d love to see it happen for you.
Not a big convertable fan but that car looks really good nice work
Nor am I or Steve but this one works really well.
Awesome work 💪.but I didn't see a hemi in the other car on the show
I wanted to just say that those who caught the hood alignment issues have a really great eye! The original steel hood was hammered badly and beyond repair. Unfortunately the only aftermarket hoods available for this car at the time of the build are fiberglass. Anybody who has worked with fiberglass panels can tell you that the glass moves around a LOT as it heats and cools. We tried to compromise the alignment so that it looks ok regardless of the under hood temps rather than looking perfect at one temp and like total crap at another.
Makes sense... Hmm, would it be possible to reinforce the hood from the inside somehow? (without the hood cracking over time...)
@@rogerwennstrom6677 the best thing would be to pay the money and have one custom made to aircraft quality specs. That wasn't this customer wanted to do.
Sick intro.
That’s our boy Kyle on the edit
Always been a fan of Strope. He's one of the best car builders out there. I don't think he's ever built a car I didn't like. I admire the way he cleaned up this car, but didn't mess with the original styling. The interior is stunning! The only thing I'll nitpick is the choice of radio, way too much of a short-cut. Like putting lipstick on the Mona Lisa. Wish he had done something more original there. Otherwise, it's fantastic - like all of his builds.
I’m with you. I love what Steve and his team does. Never seen a car they built that I didn’t love.
Nice very nicely done
That’s Strope and his team for you
AutotopiaLA they dam sure know how to put a car together for sure.
Agreed
I'd love to see a story on the 1966 Mustang Fastback with the circa '66 Indy Car engine in it. That car is my ABS....favourite.
250K ... Negro PLEASE !
Clueless
Nice work. But why did he paint the front bumper body-color, and leave the rear bumper chrome? Did he run out of funds?
Styling choice. Feel free to reach out to Strope and ask him the question. Beautiful car though
@@AutotopiaLA It would look awesome and unique if both bumpers were body-color. Because right now it looks odd, like a problem needing fixing.
@@richardike2342 71 GTOs have enduro bumpers and are rubber !
@@brianthornton2606 You are right. I remember watching or hearing about how the engineers had a challenge making that rubber front bumper.
However, that doesn't stop him from painting the rear bumper the same color as the front, so they both can match.
strope is one of my top designers or builders....this is a great car but the front valence was a little sketchy around the bumper
Why did he gow with the LS eng. instead of the latest LT engines?
3:24... did he say baer brakes?? This guy is definitely crazy about his builds! This thing is beyond perfect
Slight screw up there. Obviously they’re Wilwood brakes. Stunning build as typical from Steve and crew.
I love Pontiacs
Who chose the modern wheels for a classic muscle car?
Owner, builder choice. I love the HRE’s they chose personally.
@@AutotopiaLA I love the wheel style and the color they chose, that style doesn't fit the car IMO but that's just me. A set of 18" Rallye II's would've been a better choice, or 18" Honeycombs.
Part of what I love about any art is difference in opinions and choices of builds. All good that we see it different. Keeps our world interesting right?
Still wanting to see you feature a legit vintage drag car. '65 A990 Hemi Dodge Coronet, '62 421 Super Duty Swiss Cheese Pontiac Tempest or Catalina, '62-'63 Plymouth or Dodge w/ 413 or 426 Max Wedge, '33 Willy's, '38-'41 Willy's, '62 Ford Galaxie w/ 406 tri power, 409 powered Chevy Impala, etc..
Working on it. I promise.
I'm surprised...not one person mentioned that this car should have Cragars on it
I love the HRE’s personally. I get it but love this wheel choice.
HREs are ultra high quality.. good choice
I personally would've liked to see the aftermarket oversized honeycomb rims
I always liked that GTO body style, I was just disappointed with the detuned power drop in 71' do to gas mileage mandates and emmissions. 1s and 2 Gen. GTOs look good too.
Has Steve ever built a Bug?
these cars screams for manual transmissions.... Americans love automatics, manual is so much fun
Beautiful car. Beautiful build. Great work... but just to sprinkle a little criticism to build a car of that price point and quality the attention to detail has to be perfect and that hood gap and fitment was horrendous.
I’m just not seeing what you’re seeing. Anyone that knows Strope and his team knows that nothing goes to the client until it’s right. Saw the car in person and can’t say I agree with you.
@@AutotopiaLA Everything looks great EXCEPT, that front valance was not lined up or tightened up good at all. Body gaps weren't great on these cars to begin with but that fitment is terrible. It has 72 fog lights which is no big deal on a custom I guess. You can get the correct convertible top switch for 100 bucks from OPG so saying they had to use a 69 camaro shows they didn't look around much.
I’m number 50... I liked before I watched... is that wrong?
Nope. You knew you’d like it which is cool in my book!
I liked it much better with Original Judge Stripes ...looks better Original!!!
That's actually a real good deal. Just like $40 a hr.
People freak out about the prices but you’re right. The amount of work and the parts aren’t cheap. And in the end it’s an amazing car. The owner has a few Strope/Pure Vision Design Cars.
Get that thing on a lift and let us see the bottom half!!!!
Wish we could’ve done that. It’s as beautiful as the rest of the car.
I was wondering what Dan Akroid's been up to.
I’m guessing that was your attempt at humor? Good thing you’re not a comedian 😂
I'm a very critical, very picky man. Most cars that come from well known shops are dated. Look at it 5 years later and it's out of style. Not the case with Pure Vision. Remember Hammer (1970 roadrunner, 2005 ?) Still a show stopper. Black ops Fairlane ... just bad ass.
No dated 2 tone paint jobs or gimmicks ... just really nice cars !
Steve and his crew build cars that stand the time test. Nothing dated.
Wind noise make everything hard to hear
I know...our mic failed. Sucks!
The 1967 Ford Fairlane is another work of art by Pure Vision. You can check out the build breakdown in the link below. Steve is almost as funny as he is talented.
ua-cam.com/video/OnwPUVAMsI8/v-deo.html
Hoping to shoot the Fairlane sometime soon. Such a killer build. Loud doesn’t quite explain it. Total badass!!
Please do!
Mr steve may i meet you in person???
you would think if this car has 10 000 hours somebody could have put some bondo on those small dents in the firewall
Ok- imacarguy- but- is it fast? So many custom builds and engines are not what they seem or should be when you hit the throttle
voices are a bit fuzzy. a lot of noise
Marvin Scott Jr. yeah, we had a mic fail. Sucks. Especially with Steve and his level of detail.
@@AutotopiaLA .still love the vid and the cars...as always
Low ride rider rayda...
low high level
Nice car...
250K
I'm out....
I get it but that’s the reality of top quality customs.
I still prefer El Nino cars....
More to come from our friend Nino for sure
250k and they couldn't engineer a way to give quad projectors while keeping the old school look?
They built the car they wanted to build. They could’ve changed/engineered anything but this was what they wanted to build. The owner didn’t want this one (he owns a bunch of cars) to be insane. Like Strope said in the video, the owner wanted to be able to go on a date in this car and not have to scream.
@@AutotopiaLA Yes they did, however for that money, they should have wanted to add an useful mod such as increasing light output. That owner is going to really enjoy straining his eyes on his date, lord forbid they put HIDs in the halogen housings! Hey, dont mind me, it's the Engineer in me. I'm not asking for a 3 inch exhaust and turbos lol. Just a $1500.00 headlight retrofit. But, when you're that rich, who cares if you get your money's worth right? If the owner is happy, I'm happy for him.
Great comment!
His car cost more than every house I own, and Im a landlord lol.
Chip Foose could learn a thing or three from this guy.
👊 I’m sure they all learn from each other. Gotta respect these guys that earn their way to the top.
Shawn not a big fan of that year of GTO, I got a rig on you buddy, the sound quality of this video sucks obviously the reason for that convertible!..Stay Gold..
Big body gaps
Не нужно себя обманывать.Вам нравится дизайн и взгляд на светофоре. Но вы уходите от 60-70 годов.Это фейк для людей.
After reading the spam in the comment section I think I'm gonna puke.
Spam in the comment section? I’m confused.
You should be embarrassed
Your comments are pretty cryptic. Which part should I be embarrassed about?
$250k . . . LOLOLOLOLOLO
There’s TONS of builders out there who could do this if they had the overhead this guy charges. Guys spending 80hrs on a dash or 3 weeks on an exhaust. Come on $1/4million on a car with little to no real engineering, it’s pretty but belongs in a china closet.
im so sick and tired of people putting chev crate motors in GTO's !!....This car is no longer a GTO !...the car had a 400 or 455 in it ..Why didn.t you just rebuild it ? There are plenty of pontiac parts still around..There is no chev crate motor that will out perform a pontiac motor..Ask big chef on street outlaws... These guys that do this to 442's etc should be shot...
Go buy it and put whatever you want in it
Don.t need to...I own a 69 judge all numbers matching 4 speed with a ram air 4 motor..
Another LS swapped overpriced restomod with an ugly “custom” leather interior
Why do the wheels always loom like shit from a rap video ?
On the show the guys metal work is good
Should done a real restoration back to stock
250k for a car that will sell at auction for half that
the only thing i'd change is that ugly chrome rear bumper, why de chrome the front end and not the back bumper
He didn't "dechrome" anything. Since when did '71 GTO's come with chrome front bumpers?
The reply given is accurate. He didn’t Chrome or de-Chrome the bumpers.
@@sidefx996 u got it confused with the 69 firebird, either way the bumper being chrome looks ugly, just my taste though not a knock against the car its beautiful of course, I just hate chrome it's for old men
@@skuz34 Try again dude, quit while you're ahead, you don't know what you're talking about. A '71 GTO never came with a chrome front bumper. It did originally come with a rear chrome bumper. And painting what were originally chrome bumpers body color went out about 25 years ago by the way...and it looked like shit at the time too.
😂😂
Another great episode Shawn, I love the last couple minutes when you walk around the car you can really tell how nice that car is by the body work something you can't see too well on a video sometimes, I'm sure it's even better in person. love it when Steve set all the haters in their place, he broke it down to the people on just how it is a customers desire can become a six figure build w tens of thousands of houses to make sure everything is just right.
You got it! He’s great at explaining things and keeping it simple for guys like me to understand.
No a/c? That’s brutal for cali. Bro needs to start making a/c mandatory so these cars can actually be used and not just parked in a garage all the time
