You could give it to me!!!
Nascar should've let Ford run this engine and they should've let Mopar continue running the wing cars.
Didn't Nascar ban Hemi Pushrod motor too? It makes since they would ban this engine to then. Most overhead cam engines have a hemi head type head. They just use a cam on top of each head instead of pushods.
@Joe Paul lol your a dunce
@Joe Paul 1964 Ford Fairlanes and Galaxies with engine VIN code Rs came with 427 sohc engines. Pretty certain Ford had covered the homologation rule on the 427 sohc.
Lost Timing “you’re”
Marshall Carpenter Pretty sure that was the pushrod 427 FE side oiler, as used in the 427 Cobra and various marine uses. The SOHC version was hand built for racing and were sold separately at the parts counter.
Seeing builds like these are infinately More interesting than just another LS swap
Try not to be so black/white in our feelings. An ls in this build would have been zero percent detrimental to the quality or creativity. Most swaps aren’t even an ls beyond architecture. But I hella respect the fact that you aren’t a Stan.
Built perfectly...wouldn't change a thing.
Hell yeah
I would I would have put my ass in that seat
The timing chain. Other than that, no.
Loved when Jay Leno took it for a spin.
Jay: HEEEEEEEEELP!!!
My dad owned one of those Fairlanes when I was very young in the early 70's. It wasn't a race car, it was almost just a stock Fairlane with a loud exhaust and wide tires on the back. I loved that old car
Michael Shuey yes, they were a great second hand car to add some mags to, and jack up the rear. Every now and then, a guy would find a 390 car. The 352 was very slow. Tons of room. Run around with six people no problem.
My dad bought a '67 off the showroom floor at a little podunk dealer. Clearwater Aqua with a black vinyl top and aqua interior, 390 4 speed. Great road trip memories.Traded it in for a 72 Oldsmobile for fucks sake! Pitiful.
steve is a lunatic with the purist passion for designing building so under rated in the industry
I love all the older heads who lived in the hot rod era coming to the donut garage to share there passion
Matt Weaver same here brother!
It helps bring young and old together ensuring that certain inspirations continue
THEIR not THERE.
On the seventh day God rested, and gave the approval for the 427 SOC Cammer. He saw it was good.
Ahhhhh men!
How is no one talking about this engine! LITERALLY BANNED BY NASCAR!! FOR BEING TOO POWERFUL!! 427 FORD POWER
It wasn't banned for power. It was banned for being to exotic..
ok so you are saying it had toooooooo much power baby......
It was banned simply because Ford refused to build 500 cars with this engine for the public, one of NASCAR'S asine rules, due the beast stock made 650 HP with 1 750 cfm Holley 4v,and 675 Hp with 2 cfm 4v's, so Ford deemed this monster was too powerful for the public YES. So Ford by being super chicken shit never made this magnificent engine for the public, and it'd ruled NASCAR from its 200 HP advantage, the most powerful N/A V-8 in that era, and still today, the engine of choice for dragsters. Only a handful are around but are a direct bolt on to any true FE 427,plus it's 8 ft.long steel timing chain and gears! AWESOME
It was NOT banned at all, NASCAR assigned a 425 pound weight penalty if Ford ran this engine.
@Lt Dan Grindr buddy of mine worked exclusively on Ford's , he had one of these in the garage once naked of chrome and eye popping aesthetics nothing fancy just all motor , I'm pretty sure it was a fairlane at 55 I still think about that car it was really cool !
That's a $50,000+ engine under the hood...god bless America👍🇺🇸
I knew some ASSHOLE would have to throw in the GOD BULLSHIT.....THE INVISABLE MAN.....ALL the PRAYING is going to do is give you SORE KNEES......🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
An iconic engine indeed.
@@slit4659 really dude?
sailing kwon you can get them in the mid to high 30k range all day.
I got quite a few of these FE engines. Some ready to go and I have enough parts to build a couple more. I got high risers mid risers side oilers and center bores. Thunderbolts a Louis Unser and a Holman and Moody
I wish Jon and Nads would always do the interviews. They ask good questions, and keep it informative yet fun. What a wicked car. Steve Strope seems so damn cool. Cheers!
Andy Owen don't forget Dan. He knows his shit more then Jon when it comes to the newer cars and actual fabrication work. If you see when Dan is hosting he asks the best questions. One of the worst people that host is, sorry Vinnie but he fucks around too much, he's funny for sure but his questions are bland and basic plus he's constantly cutting off the guest when they talk. Step it up Vinny!
Blanco Escondido yeah Dan is great too, good point!
"THE CAMMER"...STILL KING OF THE "FE'S". A BEAUTIFUL PEACE OF ART WORK! THANKS
Amazing build. Love the well planned and appreciated thought put into detail and respecting "parts pin" methodology. Fan-fricken-tastic.
Steve needs to come back with EVERYTHING hes done his builds are sick af
Jon reminded me of a quote I love and for this car it's perfect: "My idea of a symphony; eight pistons playing the tune my right foot tells them to"
Dude was awesome I loved all the details on it!!!😀❤
Nads actually let the owner talk. Improving day by day lol
Mehdi Mohamed maker. The guy does this for a business from the sound of it. "The buyer wanted a fairlane"
That car is FUCKING amazing. As a guy that grew up seeing Dan Gurney race at Riverside in the 60s.
This is one of those things that really grabs me tight from the automotive community. Above all else, I'm an artist first and it motivates a lot of what I do. I am not an engineer by any stretch of the definition. I love to see these cars that not only have this incredible attention to detail, but you can hear the passion and the pride of the artist as he talks about his masterpiece. The man is truly a craftsman in his own league, and I would argue that he may only share that league with the creator of Icon.
Congrats on 1/4 of the way to DT1000
Nick Cazella and 1/2 way to 500! I believe they will get to 500 by this time next year
A quarter milestone 😄
14:06, oooh no no no my friend this is where we pump that volume all the way up!
pretty sure youd have to be a moron to listen to this on headphones lol. i always crank the system when they fire up the rides.
Steven Pope im on headphones and it sounds beautiful
This guy's Martini Mustang is the Pinnacle of automotive awesomeness
Single handedly one of the most beautiful 66 lanes I've ever seen.
'67!
Love 66-67 Fairlane’s. 👍🏻
Shit box I agree. As far as exterior styling goes the 66 & 67 Fairlane Hrd Tops are my favorite.
I also like the lesser known 66 & 67 Mercury Comet Caliente/Cyclone/Cyclone GT almost as much (especially from the A pillar on back).
I miss seeing all of the 60's Muscle & Pony cars out on the streets every Friday & Saturday night.
Truth be told though....today's Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger (Charger) would put a whipping on the Muscle Cars of past.
Although, the cars of the 60's were the pinnacle styling IMO.
David Mills, 👍🏻
This car is beautiful. Straight and loud. So pretty. Another awesome video
Halfway to 500, guys.
Defiantly the Chop King. Such a rowdy noise. I love it
Turn it down, Jon? More like turn it up. This thing is so crisp. Love that sound. Can almost feel it in my chest.
My favorite Ford motor. Banned from Nascar because it was a SOHC and that was "too european", 600hp N/A back then in 1964 using hemispheric combustion chambers and a SOHC. Took what Dodge did, said fuck you, made it better and got it banned. Legend.
wtf does "defiantly" mean?
MSDX360 It means you don't have the reading comprehension to understand a spelling mistake probably made by autocorrect, cheers jackass! :)
Dylan McCallister - Ford did the "hemi" back in the'40s as the ArDun head conversion for the flathead powered Ford trucks, which suffered from inherent cooling deficiencies at high altitude (on the ground still, not in the air). The designer of the Ardun heads was none other than Zora-Arkus Duntov, the father of the Corvette (get it? - ARkus DUNtov?) Interesting how all this automotive history sahakes out, no?
MSDX360 - It means, "in yo fayse".
Now this dude is one who really knows what he was doing with his car i love his choice of words
Thanks all for the sweet memories I had the pleasure to drive a Ford Fairlane 390 4 speed slightly built, back in the early 70's We always have at least one V8 in the family but my favorite car to drive is currently a 2007 WRX stage 2 with progressive rate springs and huge sway bars, smiles in every mile.
Thanks so much for keeping the mansmission, keeps the driver connected with the car and 3 pedals on the floor adds character.
The best part of night shift is watching these loud af. Those exhaust notes though!
I really want to meet Nads one day and have a beer with him, what an awesome guy, thanks Nads.
This is my favorite Steve Strope car. One of the great engines of all time the 427 SOHC...
That fairlane looks freaking beautiful
Pure automotive art. Some people's dream cars are lambos and bugattis..... cars like this are mine. My dad had a dark metallic green 66' Fairlane GTA with a 390 and later on a 68 or 69 Torino 428scj, white with black stripes. I was too young to remember the Fairlane he had very well, but I do remember him ripping on that Torino. It sure sounded awesome. If you heard him say "Hang on kids!" You were a split second away from having your head pinned to the seat. I do remember he only had it a short time until he pulled the engine and took it to his machine shop to shave the heads and lighten the crank amongst other things. It REALLY ripped when he was done with it. I would love to have one but they have gotten really expensive. I've had a nice notch back 65 stang with a built 351w in it and loved it. Wish I wouldn't have sold it now. I'd like to build restomod 66 Fairlane one day.
427 ford...
Pure perfection
I remember the old TV ads that said; Ford has a better idea! Well Steve, you took that concept to it’s high tech edge. Detail & engineering are impeccable. Ed Pink is a better engine builder than Keith Black. It sounds insane & it’s got truly frightening performance. An outstanding build project, congratulations!
As a fairlane owner...
ALL CLEAR🤘🏽
I just found this.. and im sitting in my 66 while watching it, did a burnout with a gto and 5.0 mustang after leaving work and 100% approve. Head turner no matter where we go
@@johnrouk8319 Bro, O love these cars, Can't wait to afford a new 302 motor❤️
@@imsodub5458 i feel that, when i got mine it had a 302 that ticked a little. Long story short crank was crscked i n3 spots and block was cracked in 2 spots, so i got a 428 off my dad. She handeled like a pig with the big block. Saved up for a year and built a mild 302, had her on the dyno at 329hp 358ft/ib, still has 14ib of vacuum at idle, and so far ive averaged 23mpg highway (have a 5 speed with OD and 3.73 rear) no idea city as i play with her to much light to light😬. Do her right and shell treat you well man, also check the rubber line that runs from the tank to the vent tube. If its old more than likely its cracked and dropping gas all over whenever you take off from a light 😂. Good luck man and drive the shit out of her when shes ready! The more miles i put on mine the happier she seems to run 🤙
@@johnrouk8319 BRO I WILL, I was thinking of doing something similar, thank for the tip about That gas line, man I'm gonna get buried in that car,🤪😂
@@johnrouk8319 I was also thinking about fabricating a ram air hood, like the ones you got on the Falcon Gt HO Phase iii's, And maybe full front end overhaul, but that's after I just get her running, Broke a piston😔
That is a beautiful and violent idle! The whole car makes me glow with pride for my favorite car company.
only ford ive ever heard with proper chop action. A+
Awesome build! those 427 sohc had there own sound absolutely spectacular! 👍 thanks for sharing!
“Its getting late I should go to bed” hoonigans-“new video” me-“welp sleep can wait”
I'm actually up late enough to watch this. It's 3 in the morning in Connecticut and I got to be at work in 4 hours. LOL but these guys are worth staying up on other 20 minutes for. Hoon on gentleman keep up the great work
I love them old SOCH motors. They are raw power!
Top to bottom, front to back, inside and out that is a bad ass vehicle! Everything is perfect.
Probably my favorite build and builder so far!
Such.... beautiful..... noise!
Skairlane with the Southeast Gassers runs a SOHC 427 in the A-Gas division. Awesome car.
This is the most badass '67 Fairlane on the planet.
Man that would make me 30 yrs younger just driving it, must be nice, thanks for sharing
Being a '68-'69 RR/GTX fan, I can't help but love that squared off body style.
That guy has an "EYE" for detail.
which eye? because clearly they are looking at two completely different things (pretty sure im gonna end up in hell)
You know this is a bad ass machine when it sets everyone's car alarms off going by lol
Listened to this at full volume with over ear headphones, the sound was that glorious.
What a beautiful piece of machinery, looks and sounds absolutely incredible.
I actually like nads. He's super knowledgeable and I'm sure he would be a great mentor. Nads take me under your wing or should I say beer belly? Haha I'll travel but I'm a vintage Mercedes guy though. No Honda's for me and that might be a deal breaker for you lol
Blanco Escondido goodluck shoppin for parts lol , shoulda bought a Honda.
Mario Diaz Honda’s are lammmme lol
David Stevenson😏 haha ok ya sure
Mario Diaz can your Honda's go over half a million miles like my old Mercedes? Lol
seen a civic at 250k sold at my job lol....ran great...still see it on the road in town
He's got a show now..praise the car Gods!!
Steve sounds like an older version of Jimmy from Grand Theft Auto 5
1 crazies = sometimes annoying
2 crazies = contagious fun
La passion.
Great build.
I've watched so many reimagined car build on youtube......but this is a breathtakingly beautiful.....Stunning. Modern, artistic, high art, craftsmanship........
Steve Strope!Pure Vision!Also my Hero..!!
My favorite fabricator! Not over the top like RBros.Just clean sheet builds true to original form.Excellent vlog!!💩
Dude sounds like the major B.S. artist
Steve Strope is a genius, this car is pure bliss insanity and I also love his show. The 427 SOHC Cammer is the holy grail of Ford engine designs, I would throw my Coyote down a cliff on fire to get one.
KlipschHead281 why not supercharge it to 800hp and let it last a season 🤣
I would take the old school too
@@ztwntyn8 - The 427 Cammer is special, honestly so is the Coyote but to get that 427, would be insane and with a blower an easy 1000hp plus would be easy and the sound would be epic!!
They can make a1,000 hp n/a double that with forced induction
Every couple of DTs we get an absolute gem of craftsmanship. Keep it up! Not even a huge muscle guy but so much respek
MrAeroHD yes a mopar part now im happy.
I am stoked to see a full frame v-8 hot rod instead of a "put rice in gas tank" 4 banger, hopped up with a turbo! I realize that higher compression 4 bangers are "the way of the future" but, forgive me if I will always be in love with a stout v-8! Our old 1973 small block 400 w/4.125 stroke using a stroker crankshaft, bored .030 over, amber lightweight pistons,11/1 compression, & much, much more, stuffed into a 79 z-28 hauled asp!!!! That is bad ass for a ford!!!!!!
Such amazing attention to detail. Using an old brake master for the clutch. The old box around the electrics.
you guys need to build up the 429 cobra Torino
Nads seems like he is calmed down and is a little more normal now
Jay Leno featured this car once on his channel. Bad ass ride
That's where I saw it. They broke down, and Jay fixed the linkage.
I'm 55 years old now, but when I was 16, my very first car I ever purchased with my own money was a Red 1967 Ford Custom 500 and I paid $500 for it from a used car lot. I freakin LOVED that car.
I had one of these cars, It was the first car I had just out of high school. I sold it three times and people gave it back twice so I kept the handles to the doors and sold it for parts and it never came back. I still have the door handles. That was 50 years ago and I still have the door handles. They are so cool. They are made of metal and fold down out of the way and the lift up to open the door.
Bruh nads stays bringing that heat 🔥🔥
Joe Rogan trusts Steve Strope to build his awesome cars. His 65 Corvette is awesome!
Steve just fixed the Vette,It was an online purchase that was not quite as advertised. He had to fix Joes Cuda "Sick Fish",also, and the Nova they mentioned is Joes also. They will need to do a extended DT if Joe comes on because hes a nutter!
Vince Lamarche
3 hour JRE/DT. How many times will he say "oh, 100 percent" ?
Powered through Nads because of cammer goodness ;)
With the facial expressions, the Ford love, the detail love, and the cocky attitude, this guy is Ken Block in an alternate universe
Wow when the best custom workers meet a cool old car dreams are made.
Over 600hp from pump gas,Damn blue oval ninjas !!!!
All that fordness. And the sound is fuckin epic.
Hell yeah 🔥 we need more x files hot rod info on here ~ I love the sohc motors, w series 348 and 409s and old 413 and 426 cross ram wedges ~ any love for the ramchargers?
deedler5687 RAMcharger!
SOHC427= Ultimate symphony of 8 👍🏻👍🏻
The Holy grail of all engines PERIOD.
Uugghhh that sounded so good
The work this guy does is really great, and this is definitely the most hardcore Fairlane I've ever seen,, but isn't he like...super obnoxious? lol
Holy shit this car is GORGEOUS
ScramJamJohnson hell yeah....this is my unicorn....a 66or 67 Ford Fairlane 2 door sport roof... Also a '67 mustang fastback....
Strong individual with good taste and eye for detail. awesome.
The burnout FROM A STANDING START ! Now that's how you do it , not standing on the damned brake !
Steve is officially my favorite guest. He out-talked Nads. #hero
Love this car
more like this please!!!
My Dad had a 1967 Fairlane 500 with a 427 sideoiler. He drag raced it in super stock class. After the race tracks closed down in our area, he traded it in at the end of 1969. Decades later (two years ago), it was sold at the Mecum auction in Florida for $110,000. And it was painted just like my Dad had it when he raced. It's name was Black Magic. I'm hoping to see it again someday. It was awesome seeing that car on TV.
This duded is the sickest custom builder out there IMO. Every one of his build is beautiful and tasteful and full of crazy details.
I cannot get enough of this build. The attention to detail is so unreal. You could look at this build 100 times and still find new details. Fucking amazing work.
Nads could literally find something he has in common with a rock.
love it awesome but nascar also banned the hemi
Such a cool build! Steve is awesome. LOVE his vision for builds. Maybe a brew with Strope???
Factory 427 SOHC was rated at 616hp with a Single 4 Barrel. Per the Original Ford Advertisement.. Which I have.
I absolutely love this car. Kept seeing it off to the side on one of his shows and was waiting for them to show it in detail like this but they never did so thanks hoonigans for bringing him and the car in. If I ever had the money to build a ultra high end car I would go to this man for sure
That whole car is pressure. But man that exhaust is magical.
Uploads on point.
The anwser to Smokey Yunicks 67 Chevelle. He talks about cheating to win. I would love to see this car vs that car. Chevy guys never want to discuss or even have they ever heard of the 427 SOHC cammer it's like talking a different kind of language to them cause their mind is elsewhere.
Banned from Nascar in 1964 for being, "too european" it took the hemispheric combustion chamber from Chrysler, and combined it with a SOHC and side oiler to produce 600hp N/A.
Boy no Hemi or Chevy then could come close in 64. 1964!! This is not the 70's so don't put a mid 60s engine up against a 70's engine. This was the best 60s engine, did yours make 600-650hp N/A? No. No it did not. Did yours have a SOHC & Hemi heads? Nope.
Dylan McCallister If the engine was so damn good then why did Petty win the 64' NASCAR Grand Nationals with Chrysler dominating the season and Ford ending up complaining to NASCAR that the HEMIs were too powerful?
I think the Mopar hemi was also banned after '64. No?
Yep... and Ford helped in that.
Chrysler did not invent the Hemi head, that was around since the 1930s in Bugattis at least and maybe even before that. But yeah it sucks that the *OHC design was just banned "because". Imagine how awesome US engines could've been with that SOHC/DOHC having continued to this day for the Big3.
Heck, Mercury made an LS7 recently that runs reliably for hours, using LS design + DOHC for a 427 ci (7L) that gets 750 hp N/A all day long on pump gas, so it was not impossible to get 100 hp/L N/A from a big US engine. And add that Porsche made a 4.6L(283ci) V8 do 605 N/A hp in the 918, then an LS7 should theoretically get to 924 hp N/A for a 427 on pump gas, all day long, if we figure out how to scale the specific output with the cubic inch.
I never said Chrysler invented the hemispherical combustion chamber, all they did was make some amazing engines using that technology
Sooo many small details make this build amazing 👌🏾
My dream car. And that SOHC "Cammer" is just the cherry on top. What a monster.
