    FL Camo should give you a contract for a new pattern! That came out sick! It would make an awesome duck hunting boat too with that pattern 👌🏻

    Thanks for the inspiration on the camouflage pattern. I recently finished up an aluminum cat buildout that I used the same technique to apply the camouflage with a solid base coat and 4 light to dark camouflage paint colors, Flat Khaki, Flat Army Green, Flat Earth Brown & Flat Black. Turned out great thanks to what I learned from this video.

    Camo pattern came out absolutely awesome ! they make this gator glade/super slick epoxy that is typically used on airboats or aluminum boats , I think that would be a really good touch to “Square one”

      Thanks, man. I was thinking of doing similar, called SteelFlex. They originally were from my hometown back in Miami, and coincidentally they moved a few miles away from me here in town. So I'm likely going to buy some of that for the bottom of this boat.

      Would that prevent paint from coming off from rough use? I would think the spray paint would come off easily.

    This brings back fond memories. My dad bought an old fiberglass johnboat and a sears and roebuck 7 hp motor. After a year or so we upgraded to a 14 aluminum john boat from Montgomerie Ward and we got a 10 hp evinrude motor brand new. The boat cost $700 and the motor was $2,300. That was in the early 80s. We had a lot of great times in that boat.

    Good job like the pattern. The only thing I would do differently is put the black first. Always go darkest to light with the paint

    • @Eric.Estrada
      @Eric.Estrada  Рік тому +1

      Nah. That’s definitely wrong. Always go lightest to darkest. Haha. The technique I am doing is meant to go lightest to darkest. If you are using plastic stencils that are cut out of a sheet then it would be the opposite. This technique of using a tree branch definitely needs to be lightest to darkest to create depth. Otherwise it’ll look like a photo negative.

    • @MrRussellnicklas
      @MrRussellnicklas Рік тому +1

      I was alway taught that black is not a natural color in nature it was just a cover to use as a filler. Maybe I’ll try you’re way next time I have to redo my camo on my canoe

    So in what order did you apply the colors? Tan base then army green then olive then black, or what? That boat turned out BAD ASS!

    • @Eric.Estrada
      @Eric.Estrada  Місяць тому

      Yes sir. Start with the lightest color and work your way to the darkest. That’s how you crate the depth in the pattern. 🤙🏼

  • @joeyr2523
    @joeyr2523 5 місяців тому

    Out of all the vids I like this best I’m thinking of spraying my bivvy/fishing tent the material is already green like the army green from rust oleum
    Which colours would you recommend I’m thinking deep forest green, khaki and flat black

    • @Eric.Estrada
      @Eric.Estrada  5 місяців тому +1

      so, the best way to get the right effect is to only use colors darker than your base coat. You can then come in with a lighter color to do highlights, but it shouldn't be sprayed on a branch. And remember, start with the lightest color and end on the darkest, then go back and do highlights with a brighter color.

    🌴 hey Eric , just got a winch at harbor freight $30, for my trailer, ya you gotta have a red on there somewhere, is the grab bar necessary 🤔 or just something to get in the way , but if you put a cover on the boat the bar will help shed water, remember your trying to put that boat on a diet and keep it light weight, if it’s a family boat build what you think is best for your needs , and comfort, will you add a steak out pole ? Or just use a push pole , west marine has 16’ push poles for around $ 350 bucks, me 👈🏻 I went the cheap route I bought an aluminum pool net extension pole 8’ expands to 16’ but you need to make ends for it and if you drop it in the water it sinks ☹️ waiting to see you next vid 👊🏼✌🏼👍🏼

    • @Eric.Estrada
      @Eric.Estrada  2 роки тому

      Thankfully I have a brand new MHX pole that is like 18' long. I havent even built it yet. Also, the grab bar is just a creature comfort. makes it great for running winding creeks standing up. But who knows, maybe it's better without it.

    Sent you items off the list for the boat ... you know ... those sabine skiffs have that grab bar that comes of the side of the hull, looks like an L ... or half of a long handle bar .... you might be able to use those holes that you filled in with stanless screws to attach something similiar for a grab bar ... run a small one from the side instead of the center.

    • @Eric.Estrada
      @Eric.Estrada  2 роки тому

      haha, you and I are on the same page. I was thinking the same thing. utilize the holes that are already there. Which is why I haven't put the new hardware I bought for it. I was also thinking of getting aluminum rivets to put instead for a long term fix. Stainless does work well if properly sealed where the metals aren't touching each other, but there's a chance it can corrode over time if it does.
      As for the wish list items, thank you so much! That really helps move these projects along, especially when I am planning and taking on various projects at the same time. I'm currently showing the jon boat stuff but some of the other projects are already underway. I will likely show something else next week, and the next jon boat video will have a lot more happen in one video and finally get this thing on the water.

    • @flyfishing4therestofus007

      Not a problem ... the little boat is coming along nicely, I will probably be picking up a pond/creek boat in the future so I am interested to see what you do to this one .... Have you ever thought about putting some of your art work on the Orvis Helios 3 fly rods ? They have those big white areas on the butt section just asking for something to be put on there ... I have the H3 5D and 6D and they are great little rods ... I am thinking Orvis has a commercial agreement with someone to burn fish art into corks, but your art work would look better. If you need a guinea pig let me know and you could try it out on one of mine ... keep up the great work ... wife and I just moved into a new house in Jan and there is so much work, I feel your pain.

      I was thinking about that all day. Not necessarily a car clear coat, but some sort of matte finish. I woudn't want it to be glossy as it will scare off ducks. But I'd like a uniform matte finish.
