Why "Unchained Melody?" Because it was written in 1954 for a movie titled "Unchained" about a prisoner who contemplates escaping and living on the run or serving out his sentence and returning to his wife and family. It was recorded and released by many artists over the years. The Righteous Brothers released the best-known version of it in 1965. Both Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley reportedly wanted to do the vocals, so they had a coin flip. Hatfield won.
