Thank you for putting this information out way ahead of time.
You are very welcome, please share it with others
Sweet…
Time to advise customers to turn on monitoring on AVD 😊
👍☺️👍 that’s the spirit 🙌
Hi Dean, I have followed your steps on some normal windows servers I have gone to query in Monitor - Workbooks -AMA Migration Helper on the migration status column it goes from “Not Started” to “In Progress” does go to complete I have 3-4 vm which have the AMA agent does it ever go to complete as I have some servers still saying progress but should say complete.
"Thanks, Dean,
I have questions.
If I want to set up auto-scaling for my session host hosted in East US.
We have multiple customers who work remotely across different regions, and their time zones differ.
Will the auto-scaling work for them?"
the scaling plan needs to be in the same region as the host pool...which, ideally is in the same region as the session hosts.
you can not use a scaling plan on pools that are not in the same region, so keep that in mind.
A good thing to add is that you need to start all your AVD VMs. Otherwise the Azure monitoring extension will fail to install.
that is true...you can't install an extension on a VM that isn't running...good call out! 👍
And you probably want to temporarily disable your auto scale rules
another good call...awesome!
Hi Dean - I am configured it but what is shown at 4 mins 45 secs of the video is not showing up. It says "Azure Monitor is not configured for session hosts." But when I click on Insights (Legacy) option then I can see Host Diagnostics & Host performance option. Any idea?
make sure you are selecting the correct subscription, resource group log analytics workspace and host pool at the top. Also be sure that you have the SAME log analytics workspace selected for the AVD resource and session hosts.
The Autoscale tab that you explained at 5:09 is missing for me. I have only configured the diagnostic settings and will need to install the Monitor extension on session hosts later. Is Autoscale tab dependent on the monitor extension or the diagnostic settings of scaling plans?
make sure you have the version of the insights I showed in the beginning of the video
@@AzureAcademy Can see the version as v.3.3.1 but still don't see the Autoscale tab
Are you looking at the global level where you can see all pools or did you click on a host pool?
@@AzureAcademy Global level. After going through your video again, realised the Autoscale tab is available when you access the hostpool but in my case as I haven't deployed the monitor agent yet, I am not seeing enough information, I think. Thanks a lot for the assistance.
Glad you found it! Let me know how it goes
Just desktops, not servers?
what do you mean...desktops, not servers???
The log analytics agent is being deprecated which will impact everywhere that you use that agent and will need a replacement.
this video was just focused on the AVD side of implementing that change.
watch the video I linked to at the end for everything else...this is the same video

Hey Dean, I have noticed I can no longer publish a full desktop and apps to the same user from the same hostpool. The Application Group Type determines what they can see, apps or a desktop, not both. Do we now need to create new session host to be able to publish apps as well as a full desktop?
I see that as well. Once you publish a desktop to a user the remote app assignments aren’t visible anymore.
If a user has a full desktop why would they need to access that same desktop through remote app?
And
If they only need remote apps…why would you give them a full desktop?
@@AzureAcademythis is new, I used to be able publish a win10/11 multi-session hostpool and an app group with multiple apps and assign users to and both would be visible to my users.
So if I have 2 users and 1 needs notepad and 1 needs a full desktop I cant do that from the same host-pool with an app group for notepad?
to be clear...in the SAME pool...in the SAME App group assignment...NO you can't have both.
but...if you have 2 app groups in the same pool...1 for Desktops and 1 for remote apps...then you can assign userA to the desktops group and userB to the remote app group on the same pool.
but on the same pool and the same app group...userA cannot have both
